Incredible races! Steam really is king in some tests. They had the power and speed to beat the diesels in the high end where they maxed out. The diesels have amazing starting speed compared to steam which gives them a decent headstart on races.

Yes, once the EMD E5 hit the top speed, the steam engine would slowly catching up! The game would be 100 times more interesting if it simulates and calculates the operation cost of steam and diesel engine. In reality, it was the operation cost and reliability that beat the steam engine, even though many early diesels manufactured by Baldwin and Alco were not reliable at all! Anyway, I think the charm of the steam engine is priceless and unbeatable!

It's amazing that there are some studies done after the end of the steam era that have developed and tested technologies to make more efficient steam engines. There are some very interesting results and a magazine that is made on it

I love the EMD E5. No. 9911A is the only one in existence and it is preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois along with the 1936 Nebraska Zephyr consist.
