I just saw one of these sitting in the bush for sale. I thought of you, but then figured mehhh you must have it sorted by now. Then this vid came up! If you are really stuck for parts(you make the deal and then.. ), i could probably act as a "3rd party wrench", if you need. Its a fair ways away from me now but.. Depends how stuck you are?! If your seriously needing parts, send me an email, to send you a link to it... We can figure it out from there.

When I disassemble something like that, especially when I know it’s going to be apart for a while, I reinstall the fasteners in their original location. That way when it comes time to put things back together, I don’t have to dig for fasteners and try to remember what came from where. The fasteners are already where they need to go. Can’t always do that, but it helps when you can.

Just like the fan i just rebuilt.. 2 cups for parts left right and draw the shaft so I know.. Plus washers go in twist ties.. Always on a towel so parts dont run away.. and a sence of humor that #1.. I have the same problem with paint on Scoopy(my profile pic). I started painting the dash in 2007 when I first got it running. Life got in the way and I needed to hire work done on the steering clutches. While work was being done on the drive train, I painted most of the sheet metal. Now that I have a bunch more painted and figured out it was different than the first batch, I can't buy that color anymore. Some kind of "paint shortage", Pfffttt! Oh well, at least it runs and drives like it should now and I can actually go play in the dirt. 😁

Hey Matt, if you ever need a clutch alignment tool for something rare/obscure, you can use a piece of tube and wrap tape around it to get the right diameter for the pilot and the inside of the splines. Works a treat 👍
@haydenc2742

Ultimately it seemed that the machine was setup for the method he used...the spline on the input shaft then the access port to pull the bolts...remember back in the day they didn't have all the fancy alignment tools we had, but I bet your method would have worked just as well! :)

Actually, I have a what you might call a universal clutch alignment tool. It comes with various fittings that clip on the end of it for different size pilot bearings. It then has a couple of different tapered cones that you can put on the shaft that will center the clutch plate. Works pretty good, and I've had this tool for 35 years. And not expensive, either.

This video made my day!!. So great to see her coming back together. My dad worked for the road department. And he ran a machine almost identical to this. Great childhood memories of sitting up in this massive old hunk of steel and looking out over all the hoses and levers And to little me at the time it seemed like something like that could move anything. When they were working near the house they would park the machines there so they didn't have to take them all the way back to the township building till they were finished I will remember that old grader and the massive old roller till the end of my days. can't wait to see part 2. All the thumbs up!!!

A genuine Krylon overhaul. I've used a deep well socket for clutch plate alignment and also confirmed the input shaft and the clutch splines still fit together with the new pilot bearing.
@bastarddoggy
@bastarddoggy 2 жыл бұрын
@@bhaebe6671, that was far more than a Krylon overhaul. Matt did tons of rust repair and hydraulic part rebuilding along with the clutch and new tires. When someone is trying to unload a worn out unit and does a spray can overhaul all they do is cover up the issues and hope no one looks too close. This was no crazy over restoration, but it was an excellent maintenance and ready to get back to work rebuild. Calling it a Krylon overhaul is almost an insult.

@@bastarddoggy I agree. Matt deprecates his hard work but fact is, he does just the service that's been put off for decades. These machines were made crazy tough or they wouldn't be here now, let alone working properly! :-D That's what tickles me - to see a useful tool become useful again!

Matt, if you ever need to put something down as a water barrier like the grease again there is a product that is designed for exactly that, sycaflex. It's common use is around through hull fittings on boats. The variant that would also be usable is butyl tape, a roll of what looks like weather stripping that can seal the edges leaving the gap itself but it sealed from water ingress. Perfect for around bolts / screws to keep water off them.

Matt, regarding "terrible lights" - the flickering shows because electricity for lights (DC) and camera frequency match. An easy fix would be to change either to "desync" them - eg. one to 50 while the other remains at 60 :)

You would get beat frequencies and it would still flicker on camera. The only solution that works is to get lights that don't flicker or to sync them. I'd go with option 3: Live with it. He doesn't do much filming in those containers anyway.

Love all the videos you put out. One suggestion and I’m not sure if anyone else already mentioned it. A tool I use all the time for rusted and stuck bolts is an impact screwdriver. If you don’t have one it may be a nice addition to your tools.

Remember a few episodes ago when Matt did a “will it burn” on the bed of his service truck and almost caught a ratchet strap on fire? As long as he doesn’t get hurt we can all relate and enjoy!

Freakin’ OUTSTANDING!!! I could watch DC 24/7. I am an older guy and totally enjoy watching the young guys do their thing. I have a close friend who is incredibly mechanical. He recently retired from his engineering job and has a farm with huge barns and storage buildings in Western Pennsylvania. He has projects to last him a few years. If we were younger, I would encourage him to go the KZbin route. I would be the camera/technical guy. But……..we are too old and I think a bit too tired. So I will live vicariously in part through DC.

Was watching "Hamiltonville Farm" live stream on a Galion Grader 835. Talking about the Galion 503 (Christine) saying that you did a "Fantastic" job at restoring and painting of the grader.
