Re: burning the oil / grease out of the muffler: years ago, I bought a WWII-era two-stroke genset at an estate sale. It would barely run. Turns out it had a broken ring. Once I replaced the ring, it ran great. The first time I ran it under load, it was JUST LIKE YOUR FORKLIFT! So much smoke! All I could figure is that the previous owner had run it for a long time with the ring broken, totally filling the muffler with oil. After about an hour of killing every mosquito within a ten mile radius, it cleaned up. No more smoke! Keep up the good work!

How much can your generator power? Also, interesting tidbit about the muffler being filled with oil!
@kd5byb3 жыл бұрын
@@ianc.9482 If I remember correctly, it is a 600 watt unit. It's pretty small - I can pick up with one hand and I'm not a big guy - suspect it was made to used in aircraft or ground vehicles as an Auxiliary Power Unit. It's a two stroke, so I figure with the broken rings it was running so poorly (and likely rich!) that the oil wasn't getting burned in the cylinder...and was getting dumped raw into the muffler.

Love your videos. I have been watching them most of the afternoon. Hints: 1. Aluminum is higher than iron on the electrochemical series. That means that the aluminum cap becomes the sacrificial anode and the reservoir becomes the cathode. That is why the cap has disintegrated. 2. When removing a broken stud, use left hand twist drill. Sometimes the drill will free the stud by itself. A right hand twist drill only makes the stud turn in tighter. From your old, tired out, friendly mechanical engineer.

Adjusting timing - There are two bolts on the distributor bracket. You used the fixing bolt which gave you a limited amount of adjustment (size of hole). On the opposite side of the bracket is a 'pinch bolt' which should allow you to slacken it off and adjust the timing over a much wider range. Worth a try? You might like to check the wiring harness again now you have torched it a few times? Finally, don't forget to give the 'empty' propane tank back to your dad.

Also, more than likely you will be pulling the drive wheels to look at the shoes and w/c's, it always seems to go together. The steering axle was a weak part of that model of AC. The center steering arm has needle bearing with a pin, nothing to tighten up. The adjustable tie rod as you called it is not adjustable. The play is there because the ball stud is worn, if you take the slack out of it, it will probably break off. Worked on AC's for 30+ years. Lots of after-market parts out there.

We bought a kit from NAPA that had several different sized master cylinder rubber parts in the kit.Last time I tried to rebuild a master cylinder it needed just a little polishing in the bore,did the same thing you did only Used brake fluid to wet the stones.Cleaned every thing up real nice inside new rubber parts.Was bench bleeding the cylinder and the darn thing started leaking fluid past the cups.Total waste on thme trying to rebuild.Also had a Hyster forklift that started having problems wth the brakes sticking found out that the linkage had gotten out of adjustment.

“check the gas and fill up the oil,” lol! I like the way you do the best you can do in the less than ideal conditions you find yourself. And sometimes it does take all day when you thought it would be a half hour job, But you stick with it and getter done!👍

An old trick my dad tought me. If you need a shorter bolt. Find the thread size and nut. Screw the nut on the bolt for the length you need then cut the excess off then taperthe end enough to take the shrp edges off.

Tree huggers are gonna love you lol. After all that you should tend to the lift chains and maybe even try picking something up with it .

That forklift must have been under roof all these years too, as lettering decal for AC is in very good shape! That’s a good thing.
