eleva TOUR in Wytheville VA: 3 Historic Elevator rides on Salem and Westbrook elevators

(2-9-2016) It's elevaTOUR time so let's enjoy some awesome and historic elevators! Here you will be treated to 2 Salem elevators and a historic Westbrook freight elevator with an open ceiling. A huge thanks to my buddy John and the fine people in the town of Wytheville VA for welcoming me into your elevators. The first elevator is located at 175 W. Main Street. Out of respect for the owners of the 2nd and 3rd elevators, I am not revealing the locations of them. They do not want people coming and bugging them to ride their elevators.

the 1920s Salem elevator part kind of reminds of some modern skyscrapers which are meant to have direct elevator access to your apartment unit. Such examples being 111 West 57th street in New York City, Ahuja Towers in Mumbai, etc.

I KNEW that 1st elevator was a Payne with Salem's name on it! The interlock says all. (Remember, Payne was super HUGE up here, so I've seen a ton of them in their days.)

Roanoake Elevator service co, that's a first, must've been a distributor of Salem at the time. The Westbrook had a really cool motor, almost Chewbacca like.

The first one is kind of wierd how the outer door is manual but it does have an automatic inner door which is quite wierd

Prob pre 1930. Most elevators since then have had interior door.
