Historic Marshall Elevator in a Warehouse in Pittsburgh PA (Pull the rope drive)

(May 2024) This is a rare elevator. It is a vintage Marshall elevator with a tiller line drive. Tried to find someone here before we rode but they found us. Initially upon discovering us the guy was not very happy but I was able to put his mind at ease in the end. Had him laughing when I told him "Sometimes it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." With that being said, If you know where this is, please do not ride their elevator unless you speak with them first.

an interesting fright elevator and in marvelous operating condition, I've not come across a tiller line drive before. Might have 2:1 roping sheave top of cab and deflector sheave,

There's actually an old Otis freight elevator in First United building, Manila, Philippines but the elevator is derelict. There are still some very old historic elevators that are still probably working in my country.

What safety mechanisms in place if the cable snaps? Storage place I’m renting has one and is similar to this. Looked through the h gap and only has one cable 😮

It still has a governor so it can’t fall.
