A new study reports that a fasting mimicking diet can help the kidney function for people with type 2 diabetes and early kidney disease. It can also help with weight loss and blood sugar, but there are some important caveats to consider.

I started in 2001 knowing I had Metabolic Syndrome and insulin resistance. I diligently followed the keto diet and fasting lifestyle for 2yrs. The next routine check of my kidneys showed normal kidney function. After being Stage. 3 Chronic Kidney Disease since 2015. It took a year to get my liver health enough to have significant weight loss, but I stuck with it because it made sense for my healy. I've lost 25lbs and still normal kidney function. Good luck on your healthy lifestyle.

What has worked for me, has been full-time intermittent fasting 15:9. My last meal is at 5 p.m. and my next meal will not be until 8 a.m. the next morning. Breakfast at 8 lunch at 11 dinner at 5. Once per month I do a fat fast. This consists of 2 tbsp of olive oil three times a day plus 1 tsp three times of ghee. Just over 900 calories per day. I do this for 48 hours. Do not exceed seventy-two hours.

Well my kidney function increased from 45% in 2019 (was 21 year T2D) before Keto and Carnivore now since almost 3 years Carnivore it is 70% with 1 kidney left due to a kidney surgery (removal of a shrunken kidney) in 2011. I‘m off my T2D medication since June 2020. Lost 40+ kilogram. I do OMAD and once in a while a 48 hour fast.

OMAD is the best diet schedule for anyone and one suffering from a chronic disease. But my worry is doctor won't approve any keto or fasting diets.
@SimiAcheronsDemon
@SimiAcheronsDemon Жыл бұрын
@@SmartWizzard my doc didn’t approve first too but that I wanted to try it. I got diagnosed with a non-alcoholic fatty liver around June/July 2019 and going Keto was the best option for me to reverse the non-alcoholic fatty liver since I didn’t a future with dialysis and a kidney transplant due to my diabetes nor wanted I to be on a liver transplant list. I researched Keto for almost 2 1/2 month before I decided this is my way this was September 28, 2019. My doc wasn’t really happy with my decision but my body my decision. In the time before I switched Carnivore at December 6, 2019 I researched the Carnivore lifestyle cause I transitioned slowly to Carnivore not because I wanted it so bad but cause my body decided it for me. The way my body decided it was not liking the Keto approved veggies, berries or goods baked with nut flours. What it wanted was protein and healthy fats like butter, tallow, lard, goose fat, bacon fat. When I told my doc that I switched to Carnivore she was staggered but when she saw the results she was ok with my decision. She still is asking me if I‘m still on this weird diet and I say always yes. Another doctor took a test and so I found out that I‘m carbohydrate intolerant. I reduced my medication intake from daily 10 prescription drugs before Keto and Carnivore to 1 prescription drug daily. Talk to your doc and when your doc is against it find another doc with more knowledge who will work with you to give Keto a try and don’t see only the dollar signs when the doc looks at you. I know a lot of doc’s who have KZbin channels and approve trying Keto and Carnivore and don’t see the dollar signs when they see their patients. Contact Dr. Sten Ekberg, Ken D. Berry or Shawn Baker they might can you give the address of an Keto/Carnivore friendly doc who will work with you. All 3 doc’s I mentioned have KZbin channels. Ken D. Berry usually shares useful studies and every studie he talks about in his videos to the show notes so we can read it ourselves and learn and usually you can print those studies out for your doc to read. The best way to heal is to educate one self and go prepared with knowledge and printed studies to the next doc appointment. Ken D. Berry is the author of the book Lies My Doctor Told Me. It is ver educational and debunking a lot of myths still used by doc’s to make their patients fearful to asked if the doc would help them to try another approach. There is still the myth to much salt is the culprit for high blood pressure or cholesterol is bad and the cholesterol we ingest with our food is bad and so on.

I questioned the benefits of fasting when not fat adapted. When I was fat adapted I did a DEXA scan for body composition before I learned about fasting. After doing intermittent fasting I only lost visceral fat. I was already insulin sensitive. My good days are my fasting days. I did some fasting for religious reasons many years ago. I did not know anything about the physiology of fasting. I would always try and fast on days when I had low demands both physically and mentally. Now it is the opposite. If my back is against the wall I do not eat!

Five days of fasting per month is not a small effort for someone with a potential carb addiction concern. Compliance measurement must be a part of these studies. We have the tools to do that, CGMs and heart rate monitors, will indicate for example, high excursions of BG that would indicate some insulin production; which in turn would indicate a shift from a fasted to a fed state

Depends on your goals, lifestyle, sport. Want to grow and want to be a 400lb strongman competitor you might need to wake up in the middle of the night to eat : ) even a lot of young bodybuilders and powerlifters have to ensure they are eating ever two hours. Also for my type 1 diabetics frequent eating is important. For my anorexic patients, fasting can kill. Fasting is not for everyone. For many, just the normal stop eating a couple hours before sleep, then 8 hours of sleep is enough.

@@DrAJ_LatinAmerica I agree with Dr AJ, for me my largest challenge is NOT Losing weight. Info is difficult for we low bmi types (am 63yrs), as somehow or another so many ‘modern’ people are so extraordinarily overweight. I am in awe of their morbidity. If I could, I would gain 15 pounds of muscle And subcutaneous fat. This would add to my longterm health. It is so frustrating seeking out optimal health in these crazy societies/online forums where seemingly everyone neither moves enough, not exercises good judgment regarding what/when/how much they pop into their mouths. I am very sorry for those who are following horrible habits created by their families . . . but must say I was raised on pb&j’s on white bread, canned fruit (but fresh bananas), frozen foods/veggies, burgers/hot dogs etc. When I turned eighteen I attended college in colorado, where the veggie salad bar ruled . . . and my athletic lifestyle was further enhanced - all good for next 40 years of health. Yes, I was an omnivore, but nothing was wrapped/canned - except el vino roja ; ) and aged cheeses. Yum. I was also raised on sugary chocolatey packaged candy . . . left that in the dust as well. I took a very strict hardcore diet when I was a working girl at 18, kinda drastic, but short term. These days it might be called a teeny tiny OMAD (but the ‘food’ was a couple of saltines and some applesauce (what work cafeteria had). I basically starved myself, jogged, tennis, etc until 118lbs (from 130lbs or so?) One other time I got back to a heavy weight ? 135? . . . was bumming about a guy and overdoing the ‘health food’ yogurt/kefir/nuts etc - ‘emotional eating’. When I realized my plight (fav dress didn’t fit for an event!) I was back to the healthy salads and veg and fish etc, no more ‘healthy milk fat : )’. Easy peasy. When you can’t zip your dress or trousers You’ve Got Mail! You are Overweight. Stop eating so much and move more. Get on with your healthy life. STOP FOCUSING ON FOOD! Get off your internet and go outside! It will save your life and happiness! (Honestly, am lying on couch w/phone, after 6 hours of gardening. Put feet up after a first meal of day (fridge pretty empty so heading out on bike to fetch some fresh lamb from neighborhood store . . . will eat w/steamed kale, rosemary, garlic, leeks, canned lentils I’ve gussied up, etc etc - wish I could indulge w/bread but: zonulin - ugh! Bummer that leaky gut is the result, and an autoimmune PsA makes this a real no-no. ) So: How do I GAIN weight? Any good ideas very much welcome!

@@eugeniebreida1583 at 63 and "if" you are in good health based on combination of blood work, functional health, MRI and treadmill test then the best way to start gaining weight is to resistance training, limited cardio and add whey protein shakes mixed with whole milk and yogurt to your diet of eggs, meat, seafood and cheese. I have one patient who is 76 yrs old male trying to gain weight and is drinking one gallon of milk a day with an eating plan of 5 meals a day like a typical bodybuilder would eat. He also adds white rice, carrots and a orange in the morning to promote hunger. N of 1 but working well. He's clearly got his own opinion and agenda, (regarding what HE thinks a person's diet should be), and slips it in as he rambles on. It's important to choose people for your information who are transparent, and not simply grabbing a topic and using it without a definitive REAL and proven result either one way or the other. Kind of sad that there are doctors here, (in this venue) who do things like this when they are desperate for video topics and content. Won't be coming back here again.
