Intuitive eating only makes sense for anorexic folks needing to gain weight. Not great for bodybuilders and terrible for overweight people. Even the women who wrote the first book on it went from skinny to obese lol. Intuitive eating should be labeled, "Eat more and have some fun calorie dense foods." Absolutely terrible advice for the fat women who follow Abbey.

@@leexyz6398 it rarely does work for people, most of us who train and "intuitively eat" just know how much is what. I can eat 2 weeks without tracking or weighting anything and yet I know how much kcal approx I had each day which mean I know the broad surplus/deficit over the week/month and how much I need to speed it up or slow down with food. Which means if I eat 2 Pizzas today I can make up for it whenever I feel like it, might be daily 50kcal or next week on friday hen I'm less hungry lel

I really like Patty's silly approach to pretty serious topics. She's also just, like, super friendly and normal. Really motivated to work out more after finding her content tbh. I'll have to see if her plant based ideas help me get my wife satiated. She's...not really in full ED recovery and I constantly worry about her health (we live about 6k mi apart right now so I can't just make things for her and she actively avoids eating until it's a problem, a recent diagnosis with ADHD is not helping she's strugglin) I always enjoy seeing these reviews of creators' meals and the way I never know what to expect when I select one lol. Good stuff. Keeping us on our toes, Abby.
@selkieslipskin Жыл бұрын
I hope your wife is starting to do better. I'm in ED recovery, but my ADHD has definitely made it harder to pay attention to hunger cues, and complicated my ability to plan out and prepare decently healthy, satisfying meals for myself. That said, I've put a lot of work into doing better, and I am, more days than not. I regret the times when my loved ones were so worried for me; fingers crossed everything works out for you and your spouse.
@r-pupz7032 Жыл бұрын
Hey man, I was diagnosed with ADHD in my early 30s after two decades struggling with an ED and addictions. Please tell your wife to hang in there, I promise it gets better. I used to blame myself for everything, I thought I was weak-willed and just a complete failure, I didn't understand how my brain works or why I did what I did... If you can, get her to see an ADHD coach or counsellor, or just chat with other people who also have ADHD. Even Reddit helped me a ton! It might not feel like the most important thing compared to EDs or other mental health illnesses, but being neurodivergent affects the way your whole brain functions and learning to understand it can really help you to get a handle on everything else. She's very lucky to have you to support her! It can and does get better, I promise 💖💖💖

Thank you for pointing out that all processed food isn't the same. Technically anything you do to a food is processing. Cutting, cooking, seasoning, dehydrating, and everything else is processing some of it is good for you and some of it isn't enhancing the nutrition of the product. Cooking for instance can enhance absorption of some nutrients and it can reduce some of the nutrients. It's not as simple as they make it out to be.

LBP is a massive influence on me! She shares the same problem of not really eating protein first choice, so she has to actively track it or she won’t eat enough of it. I’m very much the same, and also struggled with ED in the past. She showed me some awesome ways to incorporate good food, tracking without becoming obsessed and also just an overall healthy mindset to working out. A lot of gym influencers are really borderline ED or food obsessed and I’ve put so much work in to avoid that. I struggled working out because I vehemently avoiding tracking my macros and found myself feeling worse due to not knowing how to make my diet fit my new lifestyle. I think the water is more about how your muscles feel and how much you sweat. So one way to gauge water intake is how sore your muscles feel, if your REALLY sore, your severely dehydrated and need water and broth (sometimes Pedialyte but doesn't always work but a little is good)

In the video she did mention that she was only doing a short workout in the gym, and since she primarily works on muscle building, she was probably weightlifting, which doesn't usually increase your heart rate enough to be cardio or to burn a significant amount of calories. I have similar stats to her (5lbs less, and at a higher bf%, but still), and I rarely burn more than 1650 kcal per day, so I don't think it's unrealistic for her to only need or feel satiated at 1800 kcal. She also mentioned that she stays lean year round, which can be achieved by being in a slight caloric defecit with a high protein intake. It's what a lot of fitness influencers do to maintain their appearance, and being "lean" is quite literally in her channel name, so it would make sense that she's undereating slightly to keep her bf% down.

IIRC she's about 5'3 (160 cm), in which case I think 1800 is still in the lower end for her fitness level - however she might not be trying to hit that goal daily but averages over a week or so, which is how most people naturally eat anyway. With fast food, she might easily hit 2,5k on some days but then feel less hungry/naturally eat less on others. I definitely fluctuate between 1300 and 1800, averaging out to my maintenance calories over the week (but I'm also really darn short).

Lately I am questioning (based on these WIEIAD videos) how much protein supplements are safe to add to your diet and the frequency (every day, every other day) to include in your diet? Most people have some type of protein bar or protein powder in these videos. Is this safe? It seems the fitness community really focuses on high protein to build muscle. I would love to see you do a video talking about this. Recently had blood work done in relation to some GI distress and my BUN was elevated, but what range is absolutely too high? RDA for protein is .8 g per kg body weight correct? But fitness influencers encourage 1g of protein per lb of body weight…. What’s safe here? Are some metabolisms less reactive to high protein diets? Genuinely asking because I feel lost. Eating more protein does make me feel fuller longer and less snacky so what is a realistic protein goal?

RDA is the bare minimum to prevent deficiency, so in order to build muscle you do need to increase the intake

0.8 grams per kg is a general guideline meant to encourage light/average fitness. Bodybuilders and fitness influencers eat more protein per lb because a higher protein intake helps people gain muscle while losing fat, and they need to maintain a low bf% for their jobs. A realistic protein goal still would be 0.8 grams per kg, but if you're looking to build muscle or feel more satiated throughout the day, you can increase it. If you start to experience an increased amount of digestive issues, then you're probably eating too much protein.

I just discovered your videos today and I love your content. I’ve only watched two so far and I’ve learned so much. I really love that you kind of lift the veil as to how misled some of these dieters really are (Kelly Ripa specifically) as to what will satiate their bodies. This video is incredible, you’re amazing, Patty is an absolute machine. I love the compassion I’m feeling here.

I love your videos and ideas, Abbey. You and your tips have helped me change my relationship with food from a toxic one to a more healthy one. Of course there are still hard days but generally speaking you and your channel have helped me majorly in understanding food and its relationship with my body.

It's being claimed by some nutrition influencers that flaxseeds and flaxseed products like flax milk are even higher in phytoestrogens than soybeans and soy products. Is this a real issue? Should we limit our intake, and if so, what are the safe or advisable limits? I happen to like certain flax milks and other flaxseed products, and now I'm feeling uncomfortable consuming them in anything beyond small quantities.

Milk has real estrogen in much higher amounts. I promise flax seeds and soy milk are the least of your worries. East Asian countries have been consuming soy for thousands of years and have much better health than the average American or even European.

Isn’t 1800 cal a very low number for maintenance, especially if she works out like she does? 😮

I know it works for content creators but i'd still would like abby to ease up on the clickbait titles. It doesn't seem fair to the people who are being reviewed.
