Playtesting a Skyrim Challenge Mod (It's broken)

Yo! So a bit of a scuffed stream in this one. That's my bad. I should've done much more playtesting before this stream. We did end up resolving most of the broken perk potions so the mod was at least playable. We take a break halfway through this one to watch Spiffing Brit's recent video I was in! The beginning and end of my react content career. I'll try and have the next stream up ASAP as that was a much more earnest look at what we're trying to do with this game mode.

Also for those asking - The Dungeon Crawler challenge mod IS on the Nexus (link in desc.) - The Perk Potions are not currently on the Nexus as there's a lot of moving parts with them and I along with DDMLink think it best to try and have them all in a good spot before that goes up. If you want to try and run the gauntlet under your own ruleset...give it a shot!

Perk suggestion: Adds a chef's hat and a wieldable fork to your inventory. Each hit you land on a target using the fork has a 1% chance to turn the target into food. Only applies as long as you're wearing the chef's hat. Name of the perk: "Hunger Strike"

For people who need context: Mr. Noodle was a character on Elmo's World on Sesame Street. His whole thing was being comically inept. Elmo and the children watching would shout instructions to try to help Mr. Noodle figure out how to do basic tasks. He was my absolute favorite part of Sesame Street growing up. :)

To be perfectly honest, for future streams, if you're going to stream it as WIP just play through and document bugs, especially if they're consistently reproducable. No one is expecting "balance" from a WIP, so if your attack speed randomly gets maxxed out by some silly bug, you'll get a lot more useful information by just playing more runs and seeing if/when it repeats than trying to fix it on any given run. Its a roguelike. Its the point is literally for there to be chaos and randomness. Dont worry if something chaotic and random happens. Feel free to completely ignore this, but it may be a lot less stressful, and a lot more entertaining.

Further to this, it feels like you asked the right question when you said "do we need the debuffs" and came to the wrong answer. Show off the roguelike game mode. If you really want some kind of random start condition in the mod, build it in to alternate start, but you 100% don't need the debuffs to have an interesting and compelling experience. They only take away from showcasing it.

Appreciate it. It's definitely not something I'm THAT used to yet. I do like to kinda just jump in and see what happens. Sometimes I'm in "Must record now!" mode and I let that kinda get in the way when something goes wrong rather than having fun with it and using it as a learning experience. Not ignored! Idea for potential perk potion. Magicka cost is reduce 100% for one type of spells, but increased by 200% for all others. You could have a version of this perk for Restoration, Destruction, Conjuration, Alteration, and Transmutation.

@@DietJoov Another idea. Arachnomancer. I've been playing on Solstheim, and enjoying the usable spiders. The ones that act like scrolls, and summon friendly elemental spiders to attack your enemies. It's just a shame that they are so limited/irritating to get ahold of. So what if there was a perk potion that removed all your other spells, but gave you each of the spider scrolls as an actual castable spell? Also, a fun one would be a perk that gives you more powerful version of the Afflicted ability (puking), but a permanent case of Food Poisoning (Magicka and stamina recover 50% slower, and food no longer grants health).

Multiple effects that modify attack speed multiplicatively can cause overflows which result in massive attack speed buffs, the most common offender being hunger on survival runs. Some solutions are using a mod like Survival Mode Improved - SKSE by Colinswrath to alter the survival debuffs or Comprehensive Attack Rate Patch - SKSE by NoahBoddie which both 'fixes' the root issue and allows you to set caps just in case. Really like the rogue concept, thanks Joov!

An option to circumvent the no perma death, could be on death, add another negative debuff, making the game harder/changing the way you play. was really fun watching though

Some debuff and perk ideas: Copy cat: After killing a person, you have to take and use their weapon, switching whenever you kill another person The Floor is Lava: When walking on plain stone floor, a timer will begin counting down and if it hits zero, you die - like the outside countdown timer. You would have to stand on furniture, wooden floors, beds, random objects etc to reset it Hoarder: Take and keep every item you find, reset every 5 dungeons when you reach the interim stage and can sell/craft stuff Food Snob: You only eat your own cooking from looted ingredients Duellist: buffed attack damage if you use the same combat style (magic vs magic, range vs range, melee vs melee) as your enemy and debuff if you don't match Money=Damage: the amount of money you have correlates to how much damage you do, be careful how much you spend!

Attack speed bugs tend to occur because the game is extremely inconsistent about deciding if "0" is the default speed or "1" is the default speed, and how to apply modifiers to it. There are several mods that attempt to fix this in a general manner, but the hard coded nature of the problem makes it almost impossible to fix in all cases, and if two different sources both try to fix it at the same time, then they can reproduce the bug just the same. A quick google search shows that there is a mod attempting to fix called ""COMPREHENSIVE Attack Rate Patch - SKSE" that uses SKSE scripting instead of plugin modding. If I still played SSE I'd put my money on this one because in almost any subject, SKSE mods tend to get the job done right.

instead of a starting debuff, u should have a random starting race! plenty of pleasant surprises from having extra magicka or having more damaging unarmed.... maybe even having a mod that rebuilds racial perks could make it fun and interesting alternatively an interesting mechaanic would be to have rooms of standing stones and dragon shouts, or begin the game with one of ur choice

So the attack speed I’m 99% sure is coming from the first person animation mods. Personally had the same issue in my own mod pack and removing that fixed it. 1:03:00

why didnt jabo use the bound bow spell after he died, magika too low or what? -cause that two handed build with slow movement speed was hindering his man hunt. no one used any frost spells to slow spiff down either edit:forgot traders not open at certain hours & no way to pass time made getting to spells hard, but that being said spiff had that busted cc spell so very possible to get at spells mid play through

What I think alot of people in your chat don't realize is that when we do challenge runs, we do them because we want to be challenged, and it's fun to play the game in a different way to satisfy whatever self imposed rules you've set. But things that are not challenging and just annoying are not fun in that way. Like turning down your mouse sensitivity or "you can't run" aren't challenging, they don't change how you play the game, they're just punishing yourself for no reason.

Debuffs Fashionista: must only wear armor or clothing from the previous dungeon / safe zone. If it is possible to get new clothing you must do everything in your power to get said clothing. If there is absolutely nothing to wear then you must go commando. Mr.Krabs: Can only spend gold if you have atleast ( 50 × what ever the current floor is ) and can't spend below that amount. You can have less you just can't spend it, gold multiplier can be changed. Lift with your back: Must physically bring the first holdable thing you see in a dungeon ( bodies included ) from the very beginning to the very end of the dungeon. Failure to do so will result in you dropping the heaviest thing in your inventory forever.

I actually wondered what happens if you kill DB targets early before and made a Reddit post about it. Here's a copy-paste "Killing most side contract targets early changes nothing. Hern and Ennodius Papius do not spawn before taking the contract, to make you leave the sanctuary. If you kill them by spawning them in you'll break Astrid and will have to use console commands to progress further Maluril also does not spawn, but I couldn't see the reason why Killing Alain Dufont early will give you a new dialog with Muiri, but will lock you out of reward for killing Nelsine Vittoria and Gourmet are essential, until you take the quest to kill them"

Ideas for debuffs - You have to use something from the last dungeon to clear the current one, so I guess you'd start using magic against the wolves and hope the Orc has something useful for the next one. I would extend this to armour too, down to you if you wanted to include potions or even magic as well. Might be fun as you'd have to switch things up every dungeon, but can still keep things to sell. Alternately, could have a cap- say you can only take a maximum of 2 items from a dungeon through to the next one. I was thinking you pick up 2 in dungeon 1, they're fine and then you can pick up 2 more from dungeon2, so you'd have 4 etc, and saying you can only bring them to the next dungeon would mean that you can still use the items in that dungeon, so if you find 5 health potions you can pick them all up, just you can only take 2 onwards or you can just use all of them. Sort of makes you think about what you want keep - valuable items to sell or practical items. 1 might be a bit tough a slow, at least 2 you can kinda grow an inventory. You don't fight the ice wolf anyway, so 4 items by dungeon 2 should be ok. Would have to extend it onto safe zones too, so essentially you just buy 2 items there too.

Hey, why not have the perk potions be only drinkable in the safe zones and have them last the entire 5 floors before another safe zone is achieved? This would make them much more high risk as if they're bad for your build, you can't wait out their timer
