You will enjoy having the 5th Wheel on your property. Instant Man Cave! I used our first large travel trailer for that on Football Sundays. Have DRV 5th wheel now. 50 amp service under shelter with Septic on our property. Makes good place for guest also. Our son stayed in it when he had to come home from A&M during 2020 Covid shutdown. He loved it.

I didn’t know there was a difference between destination and park models. I’ve always thought they were the same things. The lack of holding tanks was new to me. Thanks JD.

Great break-down of each..... Even better scenery! If there were a large creek flowing within eyesight I'd be knocking on your door to give you money, mow your grass, put up xmas lights, chop wood, whatever.. I'm done with Sacramento and ready for anything green ;)

JD I can attest to the concern related to wind and slide toppers. I had a very tight window between my new rig delivered to the dealer and my getting to the dealer (a 15 hour straight through drive!) and getting back home before an enormous weather front. Unfortunately, the leveling system had a problem. The dealer came right out (I had stayed the night but had intended on leaving mid- morning) and got everything fixed BUT by the time they were done and we were hitched up and ready leave, snow was already falling. Quick highway weather check showed the pass (high elevation mountain pass) was already closed due to an accident. The storm front coming in generated 50MPH winds. I was freaking out! They stayed in the rig and seem to be a little stretched but have worked properly so far. I'm a bit concerned the fabric may stretch a bit more as the heat increase later in the year. Hope not!!

"Use case" sounds like an engieer. I'm a retired software engineer, so I've heard that term a lot. BTW, I've asked RV sales people and staff at RV parks why some smaller modulars are called "park models." They all essentially said it just means a small modular home that can is narrow, so it can be transported without special permits. None of them mentioned anything about tanks and plumbing differences.

Love your channel! Thanks for all the hard work making the content, in 2019 we bought a forest river wildwood dlx 4002q destination trailer, we keep it at the same rv park year round, I could have ordered it without holding tanks, but we decided to get it with holding tanks more for resale if we ever decide to sell it and either upgrade or go with a 5th wheel. Thanks again for the hard work!!

How is the Wildwood for you? Quality?
@jasonoftos51292 жыл бұрын
@@chrischapman276 Very good actually, have had no problems at all, some of the fit and finish of the trim work isn't the best, but thats just minor stuff, this is my 2nd rv, so the first one was a keystone travel trailer and that served me well also

I bought a puma 38rlb to full time in, in northern Canada. I chase oil work. Not the heaviest thing I towed but definitely the longest. Drove 4000km to pick it up and 3000km to bring it "home"

Very nice set up on your property. Do you intend on adding a septic system?
@volvo092 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I like it. Power and water right there too. It's totally fine parking spot too... I can't believe what people will complain about. They're either so well off and well connected to ready to go resources that building a proper pad (for temporary use) is a snap of the fingers.

Great views from your unit. We only see snow and snow covered mountains. Colder than Texas for sure, here in Anchorage Alaska but extremely rare to be over 80 degrees!

Good example with the park model, designed to be lived in and not moved often at all. The example I always use is that buyers of those don't even own a truck, like you said they hire someone to move it to a pad, and it goes up on jacks and stays there, maybe forever. When you drive by a mobile home park you see these, but mostly older models in my area.

I’ve been a commercial truck driver most of my life and have driven doubles triples around. The scariest thing I ever toad was when I bought a a destination trailer and had to tow it about 15 miles. First the tongue weight is so heavy it just toes horrible and Because the axles are almost in the middle the back of the trailer swings out so wide when you turn it’s all over in the middle of the oncoming lane. But great trailer when we got it to its new home.

Questions - isn’t it bad to keep an RV stationary for a long period of time? And , is it bad for the slides to not bring them in and out for long periods of time? Or am I missing something?

Hey JD, how about a video on what the minimum recommendations for full time RV living? I’d love to hear you thoughts on what makes an RV temporary or good enough for full time living.

Will you be doing cables in the ground for tie downs? I used to install them for trailer parks when I was young.

Best advice I can give you is to get a carport for it. Save your roof.

I'd like to see the toilet differences between desination and park models, especially flush functions. Does the park model use a tank for flushing? Here in Arizona, a lot of people buy a travel trailer, pull out the RV toilet and tanks, then install a residention porcelain toilet.

Another reason not have slide toppers. Imagine being in a campground and having the wind pick up like this in a rig with zero accessibility with all the slides in.

Do you recommend a carport or some sort of covering? We are buying a newer fifth wheel this year and will be keeping it at home and wondering if we should keep it covered when not in use.
@krice242 жыл бұрын
Yes!! I wouldn't buy and RV if I couldn't keep it in a carport, it must have enclosed sides. We got a 2011 montana and it's stayed in a carport with sides since new. Decals, roof and gel coat look like the day it was built. It probably has a total of 6 months outside time of use. It looks better then a 6 month old 2021 model. The decals on these new rvs don't last long (roughly 2 years max) and start looking faded, and rubber roof starts looking bad. If your about to spend 30-100k on a new rv, then justify an 5-8k rv carport with sides! It will also more then pay for itself with the rvs resell value.

Perhaps I missed it but what was the problem with your leveling jacks when you put them down at your new place? The middle ones were not down when you leveled it the first time and now i see they are down now? Was it user error or somehing else?
@ZeoCyberG2 жыл бұрын
Something else, it's been a recurring problem with the system. Doesn't happen all the time but it's annoying when it does and he's still waiting for a long term fix, or at least hasn't reported whether that was provided this time around or not...

Usually your dealer can set up delivery. Plus pick up if you need it winterized. The longer the distance the higher the fee. Just make sure the contractor has insurance to cover any mishaps.

I had just purchased a 2007 Dutchmen Grand Junction fifth wheel RV that's going to be permanent on my property and I was interested in turning it into a park model in ditching the tanks. Don't know what it entails yet but hopefully it won't be such a big deal plumbing it up so I don't have to worry about tanks freezing in the winter time for keeping an eye on them has anybody out there done that before?
