Difference between Road, Highway, Expressway as per MORTH | What is Road, Highway, and Expressway?
in this video, we are discussing the major difference between Road, Highway, and Expressway:
Road-Any harden surface which can carry the traffic movement from Origin to Destination. It is designed for 40 - 65 km/hr.
Types of Road-
1. Major District Road
2. Other District Road
3. Village Road
Highway-Special Category of the road which is allowed to carry the high speed of the vehicle. It is designed for 80 - 100 km/hr.
Types of Highway-
1. National Highway
2. State Highway
Expressway-Special category of the road with superior facility which allows carrying the high speed and high volume of traffic and connects directly origin to destination. It is designed for 120 km/hr.
The pavement-When road is constructed in a number of layers.
Types of pavement-
1. Flexible pavement
2. Rigid pavement
1. Flexible Pavement- When we construct the road with the help of asphalt concrete is known as flexible pavement.
Layers of Flexible pavement-
1. Subgrade
2. Granular subbase (GSB)
3. Water mix macadam (WMM)
4. Dense bitumen macadam (DBM)
5. Bituminous Concrete (BC)
2. Rigid Pavement- When we construct the road with the help of cement concrete is known as Rigid Pavement.
Layers Rigid Pavement-
1. Subgrade
2. Granular subbase (GSB)
3. Dry Lean Concrete (DLC)
4. Pavement Quality Concrete (QPC)
