Here's video of the difference between Cobalt Teal and imitation Cyan/Turquoise. I hope the video will clarify whether an expensive genuine but rather attractive Cobalt Teal is really needed.

This is a helpful and interesting comparison - thank you. Andrew Tischler is very hot on cobalt teal, and it's the CMY appeal that does it for him. Realistically, quin magenta is far more important to a general palette than something with such limited application as cobalt teal. By all means have it if you need it for a specific job, otherwise it's not really necessary.

Exactly. For a normal color scheme in a painting Titanium White, Cad yellow light, a cool red, Burnt sienna/umber, Ultramarine are enough

Well, there is a "problem" with the convenience teal for mixing blue: The value range is very limited on the deep side.

It also depends on the quality of the paint and its high percentage of pure pigment. If your cobalt teal blue is the result of mixing by the manufacturer or putting in a charge to make it bulky, the brightness of your blue won't be as shocking, but more neutral, duller.

Personally I like to have each two Phtalos blue and green because I can have a cyan with a very deep masstone, but also have a cold green and a cold blue with a dark masstone. Other alternative is PG36, Cobalt Turquoise is a single cyan pigment but a little neutralised. Lovely comparison thanks

Teal better but fake teal also works very well.
