White indoctrination!!!. This is a Microcosmic precept of what goes on in the Caucasians subconscious/conscious in relation to black people. They don't know why black people are overall better in athletics than all the other races so they're trying to think of irrational ways to justify their views. They even have the audacity to bring in two young Black men to try and justify why black people are overall better athletes. Unfortunately these young men aren't informed enough to refute and debunk the claims made against them. Blacks don't realize this.... White people have a very perverted infactuation with them. They're in "awe" with blacks meaning they love and hate you at the same time. It's that love/hate paradigm that leads these circular race debates and arguments TO NO WHERE!. It's hard to believe out of that congregation of students ( which I'm sure there's a handful of black students) didn't stand up to the so called lecturer to refute his claims and actually interact in a rational debate using Empirical data, REAL history, biological concepts and context. Even with these factors it's important we be truthful to the best of our ability because Lies upon lies will won't get us anywhere!.

I think culture also partly contributes to the reason that you rarely see East Asians participating in athletics. If you're a young Asian kid, you're constantly being hammered by your parents to spend every waking hour studying, and everything else outside of that goes out the window. Even if you're interesting in playing a particular sport, you won't necessarily receive active encouragement to excel at it because academics always comes first.

Based on Black American culture, from my view it relates to the idea of most people in society wanting wealth and success. Most African-americans who aren't from middle-class backgrounds are faced with the framework of success only being achievable by sports or music. Less by academia. So this adds to their drive and why they're more represented in sports as well as perform better. Most white children don't aspire to be athletes as their ways of achieving success aren't as narrow. Many athletes such as Kevin Durant, Lebron James share the same childhood stories.

Not just america. When you’re black and come from a poor socio-economic background the only way people expect you succeed is by becoming an athlete or a rapper. When you’re white and come from a poor socio-economic people expect you to get a scholarship and become a lawyer or something.
@abiikr4773

@@blanco7726 I'd argue against that. In most African countries education is held highly. Same with the African diaspora that live in the UK and other nations. African parents are vey strict when it comes to education, same as Caribbean parents. It's mainly an American problem.
@blanco7726
@blanco7726 5 жыл бұрын
Abi Ikr do you live in the UK? Cuz I do and this is the harsh reality in cities. To simplify, schools discourage young kids and teens who are led to believe that being a rapper or an athlete is the only way to make it out the ends. Yes African parents tend to be strict, but you seem to have missed the part where I mentioned “poor socio-economic background”. Most parents who raise kids in these environments are powerless compared to outside influence. These environments do not include strong parents, hence poor “socio”-economic background. In African countries most kids don’t come from poor social backgrounds (Just like the UK, the US or anywhere for that matter) and those who do, also tend to get involved with sports like football. Theres a middle and working class in Africa as well you know.
@abiikr4773

@@blanco7726 Yh I live in the UK. I see your point as I did judge the case from my lense, not working-class youths. I'd just add that black people in the UK are only just beginning to have heavy influence in the media and entertainment industry. It wasn't really the case a decade ago. The US has history of successful black people in media, so black Americans aspiring to that makes sense. You could say for a while there's been a gap on what youths with lack of opportunities could invest in. That gap is now filled by this new wave of music.

@roudyman777 Жыл бұрын
Dude talking about muscle fibers is spot on. I took physiology courses in college and we discussed this. Genetically speaking, people of western/central African origin generally have a higher percentage of fast-twitch muscle fibers and lower percentage of slow-twitch, while the opposite is true for people of European origin. The fast twitch fibers are more explosive whereas the slow twitch are more optimal to allow the muscle to have longer endurance.
@zackabides8270
@zackabides8270 Жыл бұрын
I can't speak to differences in muscle makeup, but I can speak about body types, specifically skeletal structure. Body type is an extremely important variable to consider. Broad shoulders, long torso, and shorter legs give people of that body type an advantage in swimming. However, that body type is a disadvantage in running. The reverse body type, longer legs, shorter torso, and narrow shoulders are an advantage in running but are a disadvantage in swimming. The sociology aspect is a large variable to consider a person's success in a particular sport. However, body type is just as important, if not more important, to determining an athletes potential in a particular event.

There are so many black African Americans playing football because their culture sees that sport along with basketball as their only economic opportunity ahead versus higher education which white Americans seem to highly prioritize over sports. White Americans prioritize this over sports because of the health consequences that come along with football for example. Such as brain damage from concussions, blacks have less to lose in sacrificing that. Most decisions revolve around economic factors. African American football players are more prominent as well, equals more to recruit.

I think I agree with you about the cultural part.... Here in the UK sprinting is dominated by black athletes. However, sprinting is still apart of White British culture when choosing a sport to compete in. So Britain are still able to produce white British sprinters..... I think this might be true for Europe. The last Olympic winners of 100 and 200 from white European ancestry. We're British (Alan wells 100 and Greece: Konstantinos 200). It's a numbers and culture thing I think...... I used to run against many fast white guys but they never kept up the training or found other sports to compete in..... numbers and culture. As for middle distance running, not long ago it was Europeans and Moroccans/algerians that used to rule those events, again this was a big part of the culture. If we acknowledge that more fast twitch muscle fibres equates to a more explosive movement over shorter periods, and more slow twitch muscle fibres equates to better sustained power over longer periods then the example of hockey vs football can be explained by the game play. There are differences between stoppages in play and changing on the fly. The average NFL game has 11 minutes of actual play, the average NFL play lasts 4 seconds. An NHL game has 60 minutes of actual play, the average shift is 45 seconds. Hockey players exert themselves for 20-30 minutes per game. Football players every themselves for 5-8 minutes.

I think people often gravitate towards activities/sports/careers where they see a high potential for success based on how others they identify with have done in that activity. So, if I'm correct about that, then if blacks dominate in a particular sport (eg, running or basketball), it may be because at some point in the sport, a black player, or a group of black players started to dominate the sport and the black community took notice. But dominating the sport may not be enough to make a community decide that we collectively want to put in the kind of work necessary to dominate that particular sport. If the stars that cause the black community to take notice were also compensated well, or if they now had fame or respect based on their above-average performance in the sport, that may be a game-changer. You're more likely to put in the effort and time needed to become really good at that sport or activity. So, in the case of sprinters (let's use Jamaican since they dominate). They focus on running (sprinting) because they at some point, a Jamaican or a group of Jamaicans came in and started dominating. Once they started dominating the sport, the entire country backed the runners and has continued to back them because it has become part of the country's identity. So, in Jamaica, if they see a kid with natural running talent, that kid will get all the support they need to dominate. They created training facilities and methods all around this new identity that Jamaicans can run. They spend time and effort scouting for runners while they ignore sports like swimmers for example. It may not be that Jamaicans build better to be runners, it's that Jamaicans see themselves as runners and will push themselves more in that area than another country that hasn't adopted that identity. I also believe the same may be true of black-american and football/basketball. At some point, they took on the identity and so every black community has hoops set up. And when we recognize someone with natural talent, we come together to support that potential star. But it all started with representation and our community seeing someone or a group of our people finding success in that sport. When Venus and Serena started dominating Tennis, more black girls became interested in tennis. As more and more get into it, the cream will rise to the top. When black girls saw a black woman dominating in gymnastics, more little black girls wanted to take gymnastics classes. As our interests expand, who knows what you will see more and more black partaking in. Overall, I think groups dominate in the things they collectively put time and effort into, and they only collectively put the type of time and effort into that thing to dominate it if they think they have a solid chance of being successful in that thing, and they often get that vision of success more sharply when they see others they identify with being successful in that area. Also, the others are in the in-group and is often willing to share the tricks of the trade with in-group members which can further contribute to that group's success in the activity in question.

actually i kinda feel like anyone who’s ran track might have noticed that most of the successful sprinters are short i think it helps them to move fast and be more agile, quick on their feet. I noticed most of the taller people are long distance runners. any people i’ve ever known who were very tall always moved slow, and have knee pains. also i think saying that east asians aren’t typically tall is not necessarily true in china, and south korea tall women are considered to be very beautiful and i think for it to be a beauty standard it most be somewhat common as i’ve seen many tall east asian people. i don’t think black people are generically more suitable for running track, any body who plays a sport trains appropriately to become more suitable for that sport. what i do think plays into it is the sports that are most popular in certain countries will obviously have a large demographic of people from those countries being successful those certain sports, because they have grown up playing them it’s part of their culture to an extent. like i’m haitian and in the islands, and many hispanic/latin countries football is popular so of course you will see a lot of successful soccer players from these countries. however that doesn’t mean that someone from any other country can’t train to be just as successful in the sport. it doesn’t give anyone a birth right or unfair advantage. nobody is gonna read this shit.

The football players nailed it. Socio economic status plays a huge factor in athletics.
@zackabides8270
@zackabides8270 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. However, at higher and more elite levels of competition, body type is an extremely important factor to an athletes success. There is a reason why swimmers have more broad shoulders, longer torsos, and shorter legs compared to distance runners of the same height. The differences in their body types give each athlete an advantage in their respective competition over the other. Among other advantages in having narrow shoulders in running, those narrow shoulders help decrease wind drag. Whereas, more broad shoulders help swimmers get more power and strength in their strokes. Similarly, shorter torsos and longer legs give runners longer strides. The longer torso and shorter legs give a swimmer more power and less wasted movement in water. These advantages and disadvantages in body types become more pronounced in higher levels of competitions because the margin for errors becomes smaller. Why are gymnasts shorter and volleyball players taller? Because in gymnastics, a small frame is easier to twist, flip, and balance. In volleyball, a tall frame can cover more ground and is better suited to reach up and spike or block the ball. There are many variables to consider about an athletes success in a sport and body type is most definitely one of them. Sociology factors can be overcome. However, with fewer exceptions, body type can not... Ever see a 5'5" 175lbs dude play offense line for a D1-D3 NCAA football team?

Partly, but not the whole answer, for example - The USA makes thousands of black millionaires each year, colleges and universities are disproportionately packed with black student athletes, so where are all the black swimmers, skiers, hockey players, etc? Just by the sheer numbers more black athletes should be involved in those sports. I would suggest the same view as Thomas Sowell has more logic, Culture has by far a larger impact than any socio economic factors in all aspects of black US citizens lives.

There's another financial issue. Once shools got desegregated and the welfare bill was passed leaving a significant amount of black people in poverty the path to college was closed. So many black students played the cheaper sports as a way to get a scholarship.

The white guy with red hair is right he's on the right track a factor is that in people in West Africa their Gene's were forced to adapt to malaria and their muscle cells developed into fast twitch muscle fibers so both the student and professor are right in different ways

The best sprinter in the 1970s was a Russian guy. The 1972 US Olympic team was blown out by the Russians. No African Olympic team has a competitive sprinting team. No one in this video remembers 1972….now let’s discuss the average IQ of each race….

Once we can become comfortable acknowledging racial differences cause underrepresentation in sports we can slowly start accepting that iq differences also cause underrepresentation in academic institutions.

Gotta put in factor, that it is proven even tho it hurts to say this. My people see sports as careers or ways to get rich and have a great life, whites tend to see it more as a hobby which they might take serious later on if they think they can become pro. My race tend to rap, or play basketball or football more often bc we see it as the only way to "get out" of our finacial struggles, so set sports before education which is why we take it more serious and more of us end up to be in the NBA or NFL due to a ratio of us playing it more than a average white person.

The professor accepts the "fast-twitch" muscle fiber theory. But doesn't believe it explains why so many black athletes are on foot ball teams? That defies logic, in every sense of the word. If black athletes, with west African ancestry, are quick and explosive, with overall faster sprint times than white athletes. Why wouldn't that give them an advantage on the foot ball field? Something is wrong with that guy.

The problem with these debates is there always one side. For example. There saying how black people might have more fast twitch muscles or slightly longer legs. Which might be true on average but they cannot say what any other race has an advantage genetically over black people without being accused of racism. How can you have a proper scientific study and talk when you have so much restriction of speach. One thing they haven't mentioned is how all white athletes on average that are from countries that have less black people are actually better athletes then white Americans. Look at the NBA. The majority of all white players arnt American born. That's an interesting discussion.

@8:09 Mr. Sam Richards, that came off very rude. The young man in front of you is expressing the reality of how financial pressures essentially doesn't allow for black people to partake in the sport (that btw can very well extend their success in life) and you disregarded and rejected it. Of course the young man had to push back and correct your statement well enough for you to accept what he was explaining to you.

In my opinion due to black people's biological superiority to other races, when it comes to any type of sports we have the ability to dominate it. Tennis was once seen as a white man's sport...Until the Williams sisters came in and completely dominated. If blacks are equally exposed to all sports they will easily dominate. It has nothing to do with being chased by Lions etc. We are the original people of the earth and this always shows, academically too we are the most brilliant if only things worked on an equal footing for blacks and non blacks.

@6:30 because of eugenics dude. If you've studied the history of science and race/ethnicity this it very apparent. White people want to purposefully use any "scientific" information, that btw is a theory not a fact, to creative racial tension or divide between humans.

David Epstein, an American Journalist, put out a TED Talk about how body types are an extremely important factor to an athletes success in a given competition, event, or discipline. Specifically, as the level of competition becomes greater and the participants more elite, this advantage becomes more apparent... Different competitions, sports and even positions within a particular sport, are more conducive to a particular body type. Meaning, a particular body type is seen as having a natural advantage of another body type. For example, take to people of the same hieght and weight and compare different parts of their bodies shape, size and form. 1) Person A (PA) has broader shoulders than Person B (PB) and PB has more narrow shoulders. 2) PA has a longer torso and shorter legs. PB has a shorter torso and longer legs. Both PA and PB are the same height and weight but have very different body types. As such, both PA and PB body types give them a natural advantage and disadvantage in different athletic competitions. PA's broader shoulders, longer torso and shorter legs will give them a natural advantage over PB in swimming. While PB's longer legs, shorter torso and narrow shoulders will give them an advantage in running.

This video was intriguing, because I feel most people base your ethnicity or race on how well you will do in sports, education, jobs, and so on...For example, I am of mixed RACE. I mostly look Polynesian and was ridiculed about not playing Rugby, Cricket, or Rowing. So, I see the point the Professor is trying to make is that sometimes this is Societies way of perception.

Its calve insertion muscles. Every fast runner has tiny calves and when you see peak genetic body builders, they have low calve insertion which run slower. I know my people, Armenians, are built wide waisted and short, so we are excellent wrestlers (90% chance coming back with medals in the Soviet Union).

Body types are incredibly important in football. Look at the biometrics of any high level athlete and they're going to be very specialized. CB 5.9-6.1 195-215 lb. Most of the shorter ones play inside/nickel. Most OTs are 6.5-6.6. Few are outside that range. Coaches look for arm length to body length ratio, size of hands, ability to bend (which can depend on biometrics). RT gonna be slightly bulkier than LT. And in football you see consistency with black ppl dominating some positions but not others. Plenty of white guards, almost never a white CB, for instance.

The reason races are different is consciousness and morality. We are generally centered different in the body and regulate ourselves socially different. However, there are people of all races that overlap so we are speaking generalizations. Eventually generalizations will make you into a liar and your mind will be stressed bc it knows you're lying.

im jamaican descent and on the gold coast of africa (now ghana and ivory coast) they would have slave castles there with slaves from allover west africa and the most aggressive, determined to escape, fittest and most athletic slaves would be sent to jamaica, also in jamaica there was a lot of slave revolts where they would run away into the mountains and where successful in doing so becuase of the geogrophical differences, jamaicans also eat food that is a lot more healthier for example we eat soursop which is for strong nerves and private parts, oxtail and curried goat, peanut punch, okra etc also there was a thing called buck breaking farms where the slave owners forced the best slaves to breed with eachover and also would rape both male and female slaves as a punishment which is why they are very hompophobic in jamaica but also most the slave owners where from scotland, newcastle and liverpool in newcastle and these areas the europeans are made up of viking, roman, celtic and irish dna ancestry which are known to be the most dominant out of the europeans, vikings are known to be very strong people and italians are known to be very lean people. also east africans are known to have better endurance and lungs for running which may be from them travelling through africa a lot, for example theres a few tribes around east and central africa that are known for constantly travelling and migrating across land, also south sudan is the hottest climate in the entire world and they are also the darkest skin tone of people in the world and the tallest on average in the world probably from the amount of vitamin d they are able to take in with their melanin, all the different cultures, dna and history is probably why jamaicans are the best at most things in the world, from boxing (mike tyson, mayweather, david haye, errol spence, lennox lewis, frank bruno etc) athletics, body building, football, poetry, music etc we are very talented people
