Fascinating topic, Alex! As the proud owner of a Zontes 125 M scooter (purchased in April, now with 3300 KM) and a KOVE 500x (Daytona Maverick, bought in June with 1500 KM so far), I’m thrilled with both bikes. These two Chinese machines have allowed me to enjoy my motorbike hobby while saving a lot of time commuting to work through Bucharest. Despite having an A driving license for over 20 years, I still consider myself a beginner. However, in the past 5 months, I've ridden nearly 5000 KM and gained more experience than ever before. Thank you for all the advice and genuine analysis you share in your reviews. I'm a big fan of your channel and I hope for myself to continue commuting on two wheels through Bucharest, even in the cold season (like you are doing) ! Best regards to you and all your subscribers.

The cold is approaching but if you do it daily you kind of get acclimated with the temperatures. Plus a windbreaker and some decent gloves and for the commute that's good enough. Your story is awesome of have you rediscovered riding and actually started doing it daily now with these machines.

I bought my first Chinese bike in 2007, a Lifan 200cc dual sport. To my surprise it was very reliable. I sold it with 56,000 miles. (in the US). I've also owned a Zongshen 200, Lifan 110, Lifan 140, Taotao 250 quad. All reliable. I now have a Vitacci Clash 200 efi scooter that has a 169cc Lifan engine. Fit and finish is much better on the new scooter compared to the old Lifan bike but all are reliable.

Very informative! A classic case of badge engineering is BSA, recently relaunched by Mahindra.

gorgolis is based in my hometown of trikala, they used to build their own in house mopeds during the 50's -60's and 70's, and even exported them to other countries. problem was that greece's industry collapsed during the 80's due to bad political decisions and therefore gorgolis was forced to find a different way to survive, so they stopped making their own motorbikes and started importing chinese ones and selling them as "daytona".

Hello the Alex! Informative video. In car industry it's almost exatly the same, not with just the complete cars, but the parts even more mixed no matter what brand you use. And 14:20 😅😅😅😅 Be bad.😊

I think that the use of historically well-known names for Chinese brands is a step aside, because people have too high expectations and when a given motorcycle lags behind them, it very quickly starts to be hated, for me personally, the best thing to do is like CFMOTOs doing, which has its own name and its starting to settle on the European market with interesting prices and models.
@RideWithAlex7 күн бұрын
The Chinese are starting to see that and have started pushing their names forward. Examples are Zontes, Kove, QJ Motors, Lifan, Linhai etc. It's and interesting future for the motorcycle world :)
@SelectaZero8 күн бұрын
Alex you got QJ motors and Benelli as well for example. And examples of models from KTM which are fully produced in China - why pay more for the same thing (pratically)? At the end of the day quality control is a cost and manufacturers can spend more or less on it. Besides having access to cheaper labour and perhaps materials, they can also play with profit margins and market themselves more aggressively. European brands are already offering big discounts which I have no memory of seeing in the past. Now the KTM group announcing financial troubles. Chinese BRANDS (yes because manufacturers they have been alrwady for a long while) and their distribution channels are certainly rocking up the industry!

The next step that the Chinese brands have to do urgently is set up spare part warehouses in Europe. Currently it's still easier to get a BMW or Honda spare part than it is for a Chinese brand. The wait time is just longer. They are starting to understand our need to get OEM parts quickly and I think CF Moto is the first one to open a warehouse in Europe. Once they all do that the motorcycle market will become very interesting in the future at least here in Europe.

i have the same "problem" with my scooter, wich is a Longjia XDV, when i wanted to put insurance on it i have to explain to them that It's actually the same as the Lexmoto XDV, just mine is build and imported from china, and the Lexmoto one is build in the UK, but it's litterally the same Back, with the Same production number except the last 3 characters wich actually tells it's from the UK or China

I have Kove 510x from china and is great..I personally don't see any difference in the workmanship between a Chinese and a Japanese motorcycle..No, I see that the Chinese ones have all the accessories at a low price (engine plate, central stand, crash bars, steel braided cables, etc.) for which you have to pay extra in the Japanese ones
@xizzard7 күн бұрын
Hello! Why buy a Maverik 500 than a Benelli trk 502? Second is cheaper and was a best sell in EU ? Both made in China. And another issue why few people buy no-names (I think you did not mentioned) is resale value! Have fun!
@RideWithAlex7 күн бұрын
They are 2 completely different bikes. The Kove 500x is a lot lighter, seat is lower and suspension is much better for off road and in general it's a much more off-road focused bike. Plus the TRK engine is buzzy above 110km/h while the 500x engine is the well known smooth Honda unit.

Here in the UK there's a brand called Lexmoto which does just this, imports bikes and scooters from various Chinese manufacturers and sells them under the Lexmoto badge. Some of them seem quite nice, but there have been a few models that were a little shaky in terms of quality and that tarnished the Lexmoto brand. Mention that name to a biker in Britain and they'll likely just laugh. One big issue with buying a Chinese bike here is re-sale value. You lose 50% of the value as soon as you ride it out of the dealer. A couple of years rusting in our perpetually wet climate and that Chinese bike you spent £2000 on two years ago won't even be worth £500 - which does mean bargains to be had if you're prepared to buy a used Chinese bike and do some work on it.
@Scape9749 күн бұрын
where i live, i had an XDV 125, but not the lexmoto one, the Longjia one ahah wich is the exact same, just mine came from china instead of UK
@SelectaZero8 күн бұрын
Yeah Lexmoto is the same as keeway, at least for a few models
@RideWithAlex7 күн бұрын
Yes the resale value is bad but again, it's based on buyer perception and prejudice.

I am looking at the CFmoto 450 MT at the moment.. I am going to test ride it, since i'm on a hunt for new bike with open mind.. They are selling like hot cakes at the moment. I have local Rieju dealer /old Spanish brand/ that is selling small dirt and small to mid size adv bikes. Some bikes with Chinese engines, some their own making and with Yamaha engines

I got the mt 450, 400 km till now, great bike ! Alex is to blame, he made a test drive possible!

The Rieju Aventura is an interesting bike. Uses the same Honda 500cc engine as the Kove 500x but has 2 fuel tanks with a total of about 40 liters of fuel. It has about 1000km of fuel range :)

Five factories in China made at least 15 brand's for all over the world and also some factories made similar models not the same....Voge SR4 plus and QJ Motor Fortress 350i .... Zontes are Zontes all over the world also Voge and CF moto from China all the others you can find it with other names.. Past year's Yamaha scooters made in France MBK .... Dayang is the oldest factory of China ...
@RideWithAlex7 күн бұрын
I think Dayang also should start coming on the market with their own name. They have some pretty interesting machines and everything I've seen from them looks very good and feel well built.

the problem is, chinese bikes werent bad in the 90s, they were bad up untill the 2010's, still very bad quality and cheap products. and if today they want to win customer respect, they have to do what japanese bikes did in the 60s and 70s, work very hard and prove for decades they are reliable, then they can compete. However even today chinese scooters are 500€ cheaper but they consume 0,5l-1l/100km more, if you average it out for a few tens of thousands of km, is actually more economical to spend 500€ upfront on japanese bike and also enjoy added refinement, quality, reliability. The biggest problem is a cultural one. Chinese culture is world famous for being proud when they can cut corners, lower quality, deceive the customer a little bit, which is very bad. As opposed to Japanese and their obsession for structure, honor, reputation, complex manufacturing processes where they detect defects a lot better, etc. China wants to sell a lot of cheap crap, like Temu, Aliexpress, China malls, its their ethos and culture. I dont think they will ever come close to Japan or Europe.
