When you use the word “rarest” is when it gets confusing. I’m with those who were commenting, the word “rarest” doesn’t fit logistically in that statement when you consider the traditional use of the word rare. However you explained it pretty well, if I were to condense your video into a sentence I’d say “for a devil fruit to be considered rare, the factors that contribute to that would be how often it’s in the possession of someone and how frequently it’s found.” There’s room for elaboration of course but overall that’s pretty clear for most who might share our confusion.

Could easily be cleared up if you talk about the abilities of the fruit rather than the fruit itself. A lot of fruits grant similar benefits to the user as other fruits, but some abilities are very unique, and those abilities contribute to all the other things like price/demand, status of the user, how hard it is to kill the user, etc.

@@Zeberai I agree. And sometimes a fruit could be considered more rare if it’s a natural counter to one or more fruits or it can naturally out class one or more fruits. For the counter I’m thinking of Luffy’s fruit against Eneru. Since it can cancel his fruit I’d say the rarity climbs up a little. But considering how powerful Eneru’s fruit is I’d still call it rarer than Luffy’s since a Logia user is, under casual circumstances**, invincible when fighting non-haki wielders. For the out classing the most infamous would be Akainu’s magma compared to Ace’s fire. Others would be Katakuri’s mochi compared to Luffy’s gum and Aokiji’s cold compared to Monet’s snow. ** Luffy could have straight up died in his first encounter with Crocodile if he didn’t have the luck and support he did, only through literal blood & sweat was Luffy able to land the finishing blow on Crocodile after his water ran out. There’s also a good reason that the Series’s original Admirals were all Logia users, they were meant to appear as extremely powerful and close to unbeatable if you thought about the Straw Hats going toe to toe with them, how many times was Kizaru shot pointblank while on the Sabody Archipelago? lol

As far as the rarest classification of fruit, there's one even more rare than a mythical zoan that you forgot to mention. A special paramecia. Considering we've only seen one of those in the series so far, I would say that's the rarest type.

I assumed that "Rarity" was based on how quickly the fruit reincarnated after its previous wielder died. Blackbeard's Guro-Guro for example is common because it reincarnated almost immediately after WB died. I assume that mythical zoans like Kaido's Uo-Uo no mii: seiryu take significantly longer to come back. That gives it more time to manifest somewhere far away from where it was last seen, thus making it harder to find which simulates it being "rare".

might also be that devil fruits that reincarnate into apples or something like that are way easier to find if the previous user dies, as the fruit might just reincarnate 50m to the left into someones fruit bowl on their counter. Unlike a devil fruit that reincarnates into like a durian or something weird like that, it would then probably reincarnate really far away, assuming fruits reincarnate to the closest fruit of the correct type.

On the subject of the reincarnation of fruit, I always kind of assumed that when a user dies the fruit reincarnates into the nearest fruit that is of the same type of fruit. Like Smiley's fruit reincarnated into what was most likely the nearest apple. Kaku's fruit is clearly a banana, etc

Therefore we don’t know if it is 1 fruit for tree or the closest fruit that is attached to a tree n if Mone’s Fruit on the same tree with Slime. the df encyclopedia basically confirms that yami yami no mi was not Rocks D. Xebec's fruit. Why is that ? Simple, since Rocks D. Xebec is known only to a few people and is called the most mysterious man in the world, unless the person who wrote the DF encyclopedia knew who rocks was, there is no way they wouldve known the DF(if he had one) that Rocks had.

Cos wb acted like he didn't understand bb's ability if you go back and watch marineford. The df was something WB never saw before. So there's no way Rocks had it. Also there's a limit to what Oda can acceptably hide from viewers. He can hide interactions that happened in a different location away from the main action. But he cannot NOT show WB commenting abt the fruit in the middle of a war where everyone is present listening to him, including bb's crewmembers and marco and the others. That's not the kind of interaction an author can hide from us. A perfect example of this is how Oda didn't show us the interaction between akainu and squard until the time was right

It could be a failure for multiple reasons he doesn't seem to be able to control his transformations he doesn't seem to have a hybrid form and he hasn't shown any mythical abilities like kaido does with the heat breath and the weather control and everything the only one momo has used is the clouds but he doesn't seem to even know what he did It could be that momo is a child or just an idiot or it could be that the fruit being artificial is very unstable for all we know it might give him cancer or something later the long term effects of smile isn't really understood yet

I think the ability matters alot too, and that would make paramecia much more rare, like if you want to be strong and animal like a lot of zoans would work, if you want to be intangible and fly then Manz logia like smokers or mera Mera would work same with flame the thing you mentioned, but what if your goal is to encounter enel, or work a huge electric WG weapon, then gomu gomu no mi would almost exclusively be needed and that makes the paramecia the rarest type of fruits because they give varied and specific abilities

I’ve been under the impression that the fruit reincarnated as a specific type of fruit that originate from the grand line. Which is why the ones that make it out to the 4 blues are so rare. But just like our world there are specific types of fruit that are only found in certain regions and climates. And when they reincarnate they look for the nearest of that specific fruit. So maybe Caesar knew which fruit he needed in order to assure he got the reincarnation. Most likely learned it from Vegapunk of course.

Brook's fruit is also top of the rarity rankings since it's entire purpose is to make sure the person who ate it doesn't die. Even if you get captured and killed, you could simply wait outside your body until the people who captured you die themselves to reincarnate and just walk away. You'd also be immune to old age making the reincarnation time even longer.

One aspect of rarity is also how much potential the fruit can have. The Hie Hie no Mi might be incredibly powerful, but the best we've seen it could do was freeze everything around it. Yet, the Gomu Gomu no Mi has shown to have extremely creative capabilities and we dont know the end of it.

I like to think devil fruits only reincarnate into specific types of fruits. The giraffe fruit will always reincarnate into a banana, chop fruit always to a pineapple, smiley's always reincarantes into Apple's, etc.

TLDR the strength of a devil fruits power can indirectly increase the "rarity" of the fruit since any capable person would be significantly harder to capture/kill for it, and the reincarnation location/requirements of devil fruits can increase or decrease perceived rarity. Wonderful video with some great points. Oh and Kaido has the single least rare (most common) devil fruit in the world.
