@desmondpatrick1892
@desmondpatrick1892 Жыл бұрын
Looking at the combination,it's still running high over the turntable. You would probably be able to shave 2" of height off the front end of the fridge by using lower profile tires on the truck,giving the rig a flat matching profile .However this will alter the final drive ratio giving the truck less fuel mileage..Alternatively higher profile tires on the trailer to even things out.On the continent operators seem to give more time to buying combinations that run flat when running loaded and empty saving crucial height on the trailer .

Sorry, I'm watching this a little bit behind the times. With regard to the number of axles on tractor units that British hauliers purchase for European work, I am not sure I understand the cost benefit of fewer axles and bigger fuel tanks. I can see that the range of a truck is improved quite a bit but if you're buying fuel over there anyway it must be all much the same price. The only financial benefit I can see for a British haulier is if a truck returns with full tanks on the ferry. Is that enough of a saving to make two axles worthwhile? If so, I guess there are a certain number of European trips a two axle truck must do in say a year to make the saving over the cost of the extra road tax. Is my thinking correct or am I getting this wrong? Love the videos and your explanations. It's probably due to your clarity that you get extra questions like this - sorry.
@GBtrucklady
@GBtrucklady Ай бұрын
Some countries the fuel price is significantly lower, obviously making it better to fill there. The difference in road tax is only £310 which will soon be recouped. Also Europe generally the overall weight allowed is 40tonnes, in the UK it’s 44tonnes but there are rules on how it’s spread, hence the need for 3 axles, some Scandinavian countries are higher and there are special exceptions but by loosing an axel you are adding payload weight available and then fill with fuel before crossing back to UK. Most European controls (transport ministry checks) only check overall weight not axle weights, in fact I have never had axle weights checked in Europe, only in UK. Not to mention the savings on tyres, brakes etc. Personally I prefer a 2 axle unit, shorter wheel base the better, as this makes them very manoeuvrable and really easy to get in tight spaces. Thanks for watching. 😁
@selfbuild5311
@selfbuild5311 Ай бұрын
@@GBtrucklady Thanks for your info. I can see from the footage how the improved manoeuvrability is a bonus. That delivery where the vans needed to be moved looked really restricted. Cheers 👍

Buying food out seems to be quite a generation thing. I`ve been used to taking food from home, having a flask for hot drinks, even soup when it was cold ad it was a real pain when I had younger work mates who always needed to buy food. You would have to make your site safe and drive off-site and try to find somewhere to park with a larger vehicle. Even worse if you`ve already passed that place on your way to the job but they never said anything. And then they moan because they`ve got no money but they can`t be a***d to bring something from home, even if it`s only a pie and a can of drink!
