What type of accomodation do you like or are planning to use on Camino?

They all look like really nice spots to stay at. You really have sold the invierno to me now.

I think here are 3-4 on there from the Invierno. I have only walked the Frances (3), Invierno, VdlP and Fisterra so far. But I thought these were fairly representative of the accommodation on those routes. Maybe in the back of my mind I was hoping to show those planning their first Camino, not to bother about 'Hotels' but to look at and embrace a variety of accommodation types. Mix it up. 🙂

@robscamino I mixed it up big style back in May. Not intentionally, just took what ever accommodation was left. Be it a bed in an albergue, a private room in a hostel or casa rural. The invierno I think will be my next adventure in Spain. The Frances has become a victim of it's success me thinks.

Just be aware on the Invierno, that you do need to plan your stages a bit more carefully than say the Frances. There is 'enough' infrastructure, but not 'lots' of choices. These were my stages. I wanted to keep under 25 kms / day. (V) = in video. 1 - Villavieja 16 (Municipal Albergue) - Amazing!! (V) 2 - Las Medulas 12 (Hotel Medulo) 3 - Sobradelo 19 (Bar Mar) 4 - A Rua 20 (Hostal Niza) 5 - Solden 19 (apartment) (V) 6 - A Labrada 22 (Pension Pacita) 7 - Monforte 20 (Hotel Cardinal) 8 - Vilarino 19 (Casa Rural Torre Vilarino) 9 - Penasillas 22 (Hotel Vilaseco - 2kms before village) (V) 10 - Rodeiro 17 (Hostal Carpanteiras) (V) 11 - lalin 22 (Hotel Pontinas) 12 - Bandeira 22 (Victorino Hotel) 13 - Lestado 20 (Rural Hotel) 14 - Santiago 14

Yes I agree. I only spent 3 days on the Frances last year. I loved it of course. But gee it was busy....... And without being a grumpy old man, I think it's changing. Becoming very commercial with tour companies, luggage transfers etc etc Sadly I think that all starts to undermine the essence of the Camino. Letting go........trusting in the Camino.........and finding a sense of freedom. But hey, if it helps others walk a Camino that would not have otherwise. Then in my mind that's a good thing. 🙂 That's the great thing about the Camino. There are routes to suit all tastes........ My next one will certainly be more remote. Maybe the Madrid....... I love being alone in the landscape, to just............be. 🙂

love a 7 euro albergue you get all to youself.... although impossible on the Frances still can do on quiet routes off season!!

7 Euros? No, this one was expensive! 10 Euros. Though of course we are OK to leave more. 😉

I guess the answer is no, but the stone cabin with threes out of the roof (4m15s) had a sign from the Norwegian Olavsway - do you know why? (Unless its on the Camino de San Olav from Burgos to Coverubias, but I dont think you have been there (yet)? Pilegrimsleden = Camino. Herberge = Albergue.

It was actually a Donativo Albergue on the VdlP in Fuenterroble . I suspect that the various name plaques might be related to those who helped in construction or funding? alberguedefuenterroble.wordpress.com/

I’m a terrible sleeper so prefer private casa rurales etc. staying in private hotels does not detract from meeting people
@robscamino6 ай бұрын
True. I get that. I'm a bad sleeper. And I was of the same mind on my first 3 Caminos. But on this last one, I 'promised' myself to try lots of different options. So I tried lots (maybe 20) Albergues. And what did I find? 1. I slept just as well. I've had very noisy private rooms! 2. The privacy thing is really a non issue. Everyone is discrete. Like you, if I stay in private rooms I still meet loads of people. But I found mixing it up a bit was really good. And in many places last time (because of the routes), Albergues were the only options! 🙂 Some Albergues were really memorable, because of the building, location, hosts, other Pilgrims, all manner of reasons. If using private rooms I now try to keep the budget down a bit. Because (A). I need to. and (B). some of the worst nights sleep have been in very expensive places! I have learned that a good nights sleep has nothing to do with how much you pay for the room / bed. i.e. Worst night sleep (160 euro) never again.......... Best nights sleep (10 euro) including a wonderful mountain view!
@fishnmick95706 ай бұрын
Yes agree. I wouldn’t say o had a good night sleep in all hotels. At one we wanted to leave at 3 am as the bed was so bad :)
@robscamino6 ай бұрын
Almost done that myself a couple of times. Thinking "If I can't sleep. I might as well walk"! But that was noise from other rooms or outside. I had a couple of Albergues last time..........all to myself. Magical. 🙂

67. But I've wallked with lots of Pilgrims your age and over. If you are reasonably healthy, and walk within your capabilities, you'll be fine.
