A more comfortable version of the side hug is a hand clasp with your thumb facing towards you, and the arms then fold in between the two of you and you can give each other a squeeze and pat on the back with the other arm. It's friendly but by having arms naturally in between you it prevents it from getting awkwardly intimate. 👍 Side hugs are plain awkward, but that is because at least one of the sides feels awkward about it! Edit: I call it the bro hug.
