After having arctic MRE's for 2 weeks in the field, you'll come to realize that a jetboil isn't glamping and should be a issued item. Plus having access to hot coffee or hot chocolate in the middle of nowhere is a nice amenity that you can trade for a lot of favors (especially when you're 1SG or CO is jonesing after a couple days with some joe).

When I went through BCT a few years ago i actually got in trouble for eating native pecans during a FTX, I thought it was funny no one knew what a pecan tree was. Growing up that’s how me and my little brother would get snacks when we where playing together along the creek beds. Blew my mind that people didn’t know what pecans were let alone me getting smoke for it. Was kinda funny looking back on it.

You left out the knife throwers. Whenever I went to the field there was always at least 2 people playing chicken with knives. During Operation Panty Shield (Coastal shield...), when we were breaking down to go home 4 guys from different units were playing chicken where you throw the knife between your opponent's feet. Only one guy caught a knife in the foot and it didn't penetrate his boot leather.
