I may have missed it but what's the reason to boil the water? I've not seen anyone boil water, they just use regular temperature water. Thank you!!
@TheNakidGardeners Жыл бұрын
You don't really need to boil. You can use hot water. The hotter the water, the faster it expands.

So ordering the coconut coir from where you got YOURS from it is about $ 2.99 a package? I have been paying $4.50 each from Gardeners supply. I THINK I MAY have paid slightly less last year when I bought them, and they were on sale, BUT, ANYWAY, NOW they want $4.50 each IF you buy at least 2. I do have some bales of the longer cut pieces of Coconut coir, these are for use as MULCH. As mulch, this stuff lasts at LEAST 2 years or has for me under my Southern magnolia tree, AND under an oak tree. I have some peat moss that I NEED to use up, so, I MAY make a mixture of some Peat moss and THEN some finished Compost, which also had coco coir added to it. I'll add some fertilizer, slow release pellets. NG, did you purchase that coir from "Burpee?" And if so, it was $2.99 a bale? How much shipping, IF you remember?
@TheNakidGardeners4 жыл бұрын
Gardeners Supply is very expensive. I have never seen the coco coir in the big box stores (Home Depot) until I got here in GA. In Texas, I would ask for it in the stores and could never find any. Peat moss is just more readily available than coir. For instance, if it is a beautiful day and I want to do something in the garden I can just drive to the store and pick it up and do what I need to do. Now a few on the viewers and followers have been telling me that if I go to pet stores I can get some there. I just do not know the quality or price of it. I will be checking it out this weekend thoguh. I heard about coco chips and they are used for mulch but once again having them being readily available is my issue with coco coir.
@juliegogola46474 жыл бұрын
@@TheNakidGardeners I have in the past bought Coconut coir from "Gardeners supply" when they had it much cheaper than it is NOW. I DO have some "bales" of coco coir that is more COURSE cut that is mostly for use as MULCH. BUT, I guess I could mix some into a mix with compost and peat moss, maybe some course sand or vermiculite or perlite. I have seen that the Coconut coir is NOT (Burpee) $2.99 a pack age now. I am guessing that IF you see it on sale you best order it THEN. I do have several bales of the longer cut stuff for mulch, maybe it is same as the stuff sold in smaller bricks anyway. I LOVE it MOSTLY as a mulch since it lasts at LEAST 2 years under my trees IF I can spread it at least 2 inches thick. MY family is all SO much against me using weed killers, so, this stuff deters weeds good. It is best as a mulch.
