@kaimagnus
@kaimagnus 2 жыл бұрын
@@sjg4388When you say "these days we don't distinguish them" how long do you mean? Like I said in my post to Hailey "When I first started learning 한국말, I figured it would be best to start with learning the Korean alphabet. I was instructed by some sources that: ㅐ = "ay" sound, like the "a" in "Day". ㅔ = "eh" sound, like the "e" in "Get"." The way American English speakers would say "Day" and "Get" anyway. lol. "I also actually heard the difference when I would listen, but sometimes I would hear no difference and sometimes I would be instructed that they sounded the same by other instructors." I was held back so long because I was trying to get even the simple alphabet pronunciation correct, but I kept getting conflicting information. I wanted to get each part perfect before moving on to the next thing to learn. There is a thing called a "paradigm" and all people have them. Look it up for more understanding. Yet, because of paradigms learners need all instructors to present the same information to change those hard set understandings. 감사합니다 for any insights you care to share. 🙂

@@titiadwi5486 wow! I didn’t realize how much time had passed since I commented! But to answer your question, I’m able to read hangul as if it’s second nature now. Reading wise, I’m very good but it’s another thing to listen, that’s always the hard part as I also struggled with this when I learned Spanish. I understand some when people speak - but whenever it’s a video, it’s much easier bc I can always make sure they have english and korean captions so I can look at both when needed. I only in like the past year started seriously learning the language - I only learned “안녕하세요” and how to pronounce the alphabet in the beginning of highschool then took a major break to focus on Spanish and now I’m almost a senior in college lol. I’m completely teaching myself Korean, I’m not taking any formal courses nor do I personally even know anyone in the city I live that is Korean that I could practice/speak it with. I listen to and consume Korean media on a daily basis so I’m constantly around it and it is the definitely the biggest factor of how I learn. I take notes, use the dictionary, conjugation websites, comment in korean, etc. But overall, still a work in progress lol, I’m very satisfied with where I am and sometimes I surprise myself but I really need to work on listening👍🏻

We have something similar in Polish. "Rz" -"ż" or "ch"-"h" or "u"-"ó" make the same sound but are used in different words. Apparently in the past they sounded differently but not anymore. There are rules that help in knowing which to choose but people are bad at memorising them.

@@bl1ss544 Koreans cannot distinguish English pronunciation well. foreigners cannot distinguish Korean pronunciation well. Moreover, Koreans cannot distinguish between these pronunciations of Korean. 100 years ago, our ancestors pronounced it clearly, but it deteriorated because modern Koreans used it without clearly distinguishing it. It won't be hard to speak Korean even if you don't pronounce it correctly.

안녕하세요 크리스토퍼입니다. 안녕 선생님 Hailey씨! 안녕 친구! 저는 한국어 잘 못해요. 죄송합니다. So I'll stick to English for now. Ok. This can obviously throw someone backwards, but it also explains a lot. When I first started learning 한국말, I figured it would be best to start with learning the Korean alphabet. I was instructed by some sources that: ㅐ = "ay" sound, like the "a" in "Day". ㅔ = "eh" sound, like the "e" in "Get". I also actually heard the difference when I would listen, but sometimes I would hear no difference and sometimes I would be instructed that they sounded the same by other instructors. I had come to love South Korea so much that I just kept going and figured I would understand later. Here now it took Hailey to explain it. 감사합니다. I know I'll figure this part out later, but to speed up the learning can I ask... It is spelled differently, but when just talking how do we know the difference when talking to someone who pronounces them the same? Is it context clues? Thank you for any help! 감사합니다 for the wonderful lessons as well Hailey!

The following two spellings are wrong: 만아다 and 마나다. Is there any difference in pronunciation? For many words I don’t know how to write it and do it wrong. Hey! I had some problems syllable formation as well. What I'd say is "만나다" has the double "n" pronounciation like "mannada" while "만아다" has the "ng" pronounciation and "마나다" is just one "n". Yes it can get quite tricky at times but reading and pronouncing the word out loud is the key! All the best my friend!

Very interesting Hailey; As you ask for it, could you explain us the trick of linking the pronunciation of one syllable to the following ? it seems very frequent in your language and puzzle me a lot when I try to decipher many long words
