I don't think Germany, where I was last year and still have a native German boyfriend, even has a "polite" (häuflich) way of saying anything. They seem to start with "Geh' weg!" (go away) and devolve into worse things, "Halt deine Schnauze" from there. IDK if it's bc I'm dealing with Germans in their 20's and 30's as opposed to older people, or if it's the type of person I happen to love, but I met at least one guy who's 54 and he's even more intense than the others. Although that may not be fair to judge bc this guy's grandfather was part of the actual SS officers (he was the commandant of Auschwitz and helped construct the place) then was the head guard there for 3 1/2 years and helped kill 1.3 million people. The grandson has to live with what the grandfather dropped on the heads of every one of his family members for probably 100's of years to come. I'd be pretty angry if that's what I was given for something my grandfather did that wasn't MY fault but get blamed for it anyway. Otherwise, the grandson is a wonderful person. He knocks himself out IMO trying to make up for what isn't his fault. He's activist in the opposite direction and STILL gets dumb comments on You Tube, like from the guy who said "all descendants of the SS, all of them, ought to be executed." Except he said it in Spanish. So IDK if it's German culture or just the people I found via online sources first. I met my boyfriend online before in person. It's my fault I ran off to meet him but he's nice MOST of the time. He just can't stand TRUMP supporters, who IMO have the NERVE to call him a Nazi. What the bleep is Trump if not an elitist in the extreme?
@VickiBee5 жыл бұрын
Höflich = Polite. Gustav said I used the word for "frequently - Häuflich. I hate when that happens. It happened in Spanish too. I don't remember doing this when I was learning English. English is my native language.

Hi Vicki. Thanks for commenting & sharing with us. By the way, I feel like I confuse words, even in English, all the time.
