I have owned one of these for 6 years - its a 2007 320 CDI. It goes like a freight train and cruises well. The straight line performance is nothing short of awesome but I have recorded 48 mpg taking it carefully on long journeys. The build quality is really high and the MK 1 styling is superb and looks a lot better than the Mk 2. In 6 years the car has been remarkably reliable. I have the standard suspension and it is too hard for me and the car is so low it only just scrapes over speed humps and crashes over pot holes - I guess that is the price for the sexy looks. I had to replace the 3rd brake light which is built into the rear parcel shelf so not only did I have to pay £115 for the LCD strip light I also had to shell out £200 in labour to strip out the whole back seat, C pillars and the parcel shelf because there was no other way to replace the light - bad design when a plastic access panel would have been easy to build in. I also had to strip the passenger door panel to reattach the window motor and that was a rotten job without the special tools. However apart from that the car is a beauty, well built, powered, reliable and a real looker!

Helpful video; I have the 2008 5.5 liter, 7 speed-transition with around 95k miles. I've had window regulators replaced, some light front end work, but the worse yet is the windscreen leaking without me knowing and then the sun baked the leather dash curling up the driver's corner (heart breaking). I've loved every day of owning this car, it looks fantastic even 11 years after, is quick and with the Designo interior it's unique. I'd buy another without hesitation.

Got 2006 320 CDI. What a lovely drive!!! Too bad I have approached 2 issues. First was ESP malfunction which disabled cruise control and abs. Nice gentleman provided solution on KZbin as well as price calculation. Mercedes dealer 300£ and couple of hours vs myself - 5min job and "Brakes light switch" replacement that cost under 8£ to buy in shop --> solved easily Second is recently developed --> jerking while hard acceleration. That same gentleman advised me that Mercedes dealership identified issue as some electrical component which is being damaged by oil leakage. Service cost apparently 1500£, I wish to identify that part myself as that money it's nearly a half of the current value of this car. Obviously I will not pay that much for this repair especially that that gentleman said it solved problem for less than 4 years.... It looks like cars are being affected just after 120k mileage. Talking about 3.0dci engine. My car is 123k and 2006. No issue if only cruising, so you could live with this for a while.... Otherwise I am in love with the way this car delivers. I don't like to get out of it. Sometimes I just drive around without a reason, only for the pleasure of driving.

I’ve had a 2003 E320CDI estate, which is pretty much the same chassis as this with the straight six Diesel engine before the V6. I remember when the CLS came out and I loved them as soon as I saw the shape and the refinement. If I wanted a saloon, I wouldn’t bother with anything other than either these, an A8 or an XJ. Anything below would be just a disappointment and May as well, could go for an estate or 5dr version.

I own a 2007 320 CDI 86k milage. Bought it for £3850 on 01/02/2020 UK. Everything works. Drives like a dream. Pulls like a train. Sounds like a petrol. Problem 1: Window Regulator (front passenger window) And that's it. UPDATE Problem 1 solved: Cost £300. (new) Problem 2: Passenger mirror stop folding electronically (drivers side only works)

Did one car have a red interior? Which years were they available?
@differentcarreview-dcr7 жыл бұрын
Well, it was available in all production years, however on that particular car it could be the part of the optional "designo" interior package - which means that you could choose from various leather and wood trim interior combinations for your new Mercedes.

Hi I noticed you posted like 3 months ago any advice? I'm looking into buying one right now a silver one.
@CHLM984 жыл бұрын
PR hey not much advice so far but i can tell that be sure to check airmatic (if it has), this is very expensive to replace (the pillows or pads or how u call them), then the engine isnt that bulletproof aswell (like the 5.0 m113 on pre facelift series, which i have right now on my clk). Also check all the electronics (buttons etc) and especially the window airlock function
@or61444 жыл бұрын
@@CHLM98 Thanks Chris! If the engine is gonna be a problem ain't worth. Yes I agree a M113 will be a lot more reliable I've friends with it on their W210s and CLK like yours. I suppose I'll go back to looking for an R129 500SL.

I have a 2006 cls500 while driving the power steering started to not work, then the message board showed, in red, a battery. Message stated; go to workshop. The temperature light went on and temperature raised rapidly. I parked the car for an hour then started to drive home. I had no power steering, and the battery showed on message board saying check battery/alternator. Check engine light was on too. About 10 minutes from home the temperature went up, again rapidly. Brakes started failing and I could not accelerate. I made it 1/2 way in the driveway. Any suggestions? Also is one of the pulleys ( round wheel that the belt goes around) suppose to be loose?
@StudioMargalima2 жыл бұрын
Must say i am not a car technician and most certainly not a Merc one, but the acceleration issue sounds like your engine is in emergency run mode. That's normally not good news. I wonder how things go by now though?
@lz57252 жыл бұрын
Most likely you found the problem already but my guess would be something with the powersteering belt which also runs the coolant pump and altenator (charger). When it brakes you lose powersteering, the car will show in red battery failure warning and the tempatures will rise if you continue driving. And no, pulleys should not be mooving.

Which one is more reliable Diesel OR Petrol-gasoline
@differentcarreview-dcr6 жыл бұрын
the petrol V8 in the CLS 500 with the M113 engine code made to 2006 is the most reliable, the CLS55 AMG has a reliable engine as well, but if you are using the car on longer journeys then you can choose a diesel engine too but try to find a properly maintained not abused car

I just bought a 2006 cls500 85,550 miles. I live in Houston and we just had a major storm. I feared high water so I raised the air suspension and parked it and went to bed. Now today I can not get the car air suspension to go back down .. I did not get a manual with the car .. so can you please tell me how to do it .. thank you
@FinleyESB7 жыл бұрын
Michelle Boatright as soon as you lock the car the suspension will go down no matter what settings you have it in. Either, comfort, sport 1 or 2, or fully raised. I have never heard of airmatic getting stuck up in the air. Usually it drops to the floor when the compressor fails. You should hear a hissing sound when you turn the cat off and lock the doors. That is the airbags releasing the air
@FinleyESB7 жыл бұрын
Michelle Boatright and the button to the left of the ride height button is to raise the car to its highest position. The same button drops it back to the position it was in before

Hi, thanks for the video. How about the 2008-09 cls63 amg engine? Are they having any issues like the v6? Also, do they have any computer reliability probs like the early models?
@differentcarreview-dcr7 жыл бұрын
The CLS63 AMG engine doesn't have the balance shaft issue-like in the V6 engines, however it's an high performance engine, so if the previous owner didn't treated it right then stay away. But this AMG engine can have problems with the oil consumption, worn camshafts and valve lifters, sometimes even the coolant can get into the oil-which is a really bad scenario, in this case the oil level is high. The engine should be really smooth, with smooth idle, without strange rattling/clattering noises on idle and at start up. You should also use only high quality fuel.
@TheRohit00037 жыл бұрын
Thanks alot for the brief explanation :) Will definitely look for any issues as u mentioned !

You mean compression is low, 90 psi? Could be that the chain is streached. Or the piston rings are worn or cloged, or the pistons and cylinder walls are warn. Or the valves are bent.
