The bass is intentially more subdued. Azalea is a type of Korean poetry in which the writer is expressing strong emotions, usually the emotions associated with memories. This song is about the feeling of having your heart broken by those you love most. So Arem used a baseline that created a sad undertone to the song. The guitars created a more anxious, desperate sound. The drums mimicked the heart as it starts beating uncontrollably after the rejection. Ja Young's vocals went through all the stages of hurt. The highs and the lows.

As much as I like RQs homage of DCs Goodnight, I think Azalea is my favorite song of the album 🤘

The description on the MV page is really helpful. This is actually a cover of a song originally by Maya from like 2003, and like the translator's note said, based on a poem. Depending on what kind of day it is Azalea is my favorite on the album. 2 more MVs incoming + RQ is doing a 'Stand with Ukraine' benefit concert this weekend + they're having their own free online concert this weekend as well to celebrate the album release! They really don't stop giving! 🤘💎🤘

Seeing your reaction was truly heartwarming. Today alone, I must have watched the video for Azalea 50 times. BTW, be happy with your shirts, all merch is sold out now.

There are still some of the original style t-shirts, with the photo on the back, along with the face masks, towels and bags. There was mention of a restock, but that was ages ago, and I've heard nothing since...

The lyrics on the chorus is from a Korean classical poem 진달래꽃(Azaleas) by 김소월(KIM So Wol), written in 1922. This was adapted as a song in 2003 by 마야(Maya), one of the most powerful female rock vocalist. Actually, Azaleas became a classic and is the most covered song by almost all rock bands and rock vocalists in Korea to show their abilities. This is the link for the original performance by Maya. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4PJnoWYn8mSoKM I recommend you too check out her song '나를 외치다'(Shout myself). kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWbEiJqYfqegrrM - Recommended from korean InSomnia. Enjoy 😉

진달래꽃 has been a song since the 60s. Maya sang it in 2003. It has been performed as Rock, Ballad, Trot and Opera. I think there are probably more versions on KZbin sung as Opera than rock... Maya did a great job but Rolling Quartz is doing it 19 years later and currently has the best version.

The style is based on an original poem of the same name. This song, however, is not the original but rather RQ's own experiences using the poetry style.

Do you guys aware that it is a cover? Girls did a great job. The original is from 2003 sung by Maya and it was a blast! And by the way it was originated on poem written in first half of XX'th century during Japance occupation of Korea. Update: Watched till the end and I assume you know ))

Azalea, I should point out that it's actually a Maya cover. The poem "Azalea" is known by all Koreans as having a political message. After 1922 when poet Kim Sowol first published it, the poem was an influence during the 80s and 90s in South Korea during pro-democracy movements. You see, as crazy as it may sound, South Korea didn't actually become a democracy until 1987. When Maya did her song "Azalea" in 2003 by using the entire original poem as the chorus to her song (the verses around the chorus are new to Maya's song) every Korean understood it as being a political song. 2003 was a big year because that was the year when worldwide protests were held against the Iraq War. In Maya's video, some of the images you see are of the protests against the Iraq War. The poem "Azalea" is an anti-occupier message. Kim Sowol coded it as a poem about a break up because Japan did not allow Koreans to have freedom of speech so any overt criticism against Japan by Koreans at that time would've meant death. Since the lyrics in Rolling Quartz's cover are exactly the same as Maya's, there is no difference in meaning. The significance with Rolling Quartz's version is the year that they released their cover. They released their cover this year in 2022. That's the 100 year anniversary of the publishing of Kim Sowol's famous "Azalea" poem.
