You are correct. Azalea is a flower. I believe this was inspired by a poem.

Indeed it was. The original song was by Maya, and released in... 2003, I think. But the chorus is based on a poem written in the 1920s by Kim Sowol, during the Japanese occupation.

Azalea is indeed a flower; a kind of rhododendron. As it mentions at the end, the chorus is based on a poem of the same name by Kim Sowol, in a collection published in 1925. On its face, it's a story of a lost love, but it's been speculated that it may have a double meaning, in which Kim looks forward to the end of the Japanese occupation of Korea... which he never lived to see; he passed away aged just 32 in 1934. While Rolling Quartz _aren't_ K-pop, and earned their stripes in the live music scene of Hongdae, they do move in some of the same circles. Obviously, they know Dreamcatcher to some extent; our "drummer girl" Yeong Eun (also my bias 💜) even spent some time as Handong's drum tutor. They're also friends with AleXa, who they collaborated with a while back on a rock version of her song "Xtra"... she also featured in one of their live KZbin concerts to perform it with them (along with joining them for the cover of BTS's Dynamite in the encore). And she also got them to feature on her TikTok doing her Tattoo Challenge... *The members:* Arem (김아름) - Bass Iree (아이리) - Guitars and backing vocals (red hair, near-permanent grin) Yeong Eun (임영은) - Drums Jayoung (박자영) - Vocals Hyunjung (최현정) - Guitars and backing vocals (blue hair) You mentioned getting to know them a bit better with an interview, and you probably aren't going to get much better than the one Ryu Sera (former leader of 9MUSES) conducted with them a while back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npvPp2enbpugoa8 Funnily enough, the day she did it, they also did a live KZbin show celebrating 100,000 subscribers and their Silver Play button - my first time seeing them live, and show where I really fell for them - and as I was trying to get to grips with their faces, and thinking that Yeong Eun reminded me of Sera... they panned the camera round and there was the real thing! 🤣 As Andrew says below, they have another live show celebrating the launch of their mini-album this Sunday at 1pm KST; you'll thank yourself for turning up... 😁

It looks like one of the locations for Kingdom, the Korean zombie series on Netflix. But yeah, my girls! The group that got me into KPop. I owe them so much. They have an online show on KZbin this Sunday at 1PM KST. Which is pretty much Midnight Saturday for me but I will be there giving support.

5am here; see you there! 😁👍 I've actually seen this location quite a bit, and I wouldn't be at _all_ surprised if it was used for Kingdom. I'm certain I've also seen Ateez performing here, though, and possibly also Stray Kids.

Lady….. this heavy rock band 🎸 are fantastic, I do not know or understand what the lyric mean, but the way they driving their equipment and sang the song is so good and so sweet is burning my soul, is superb performance. The vocalist is fantastic she and the Bassist, the drummer and the guitarist is meant to be together kicking our aaaassshh every step the way this Heavy Rock band know how to rock, they are superb, they’re young and gorgeous fully energized heavy rock’n roll’n is the best female rocker that I ever know around. They are absolutely fantastic, I mean for Californian we are the home of heavy metal and heavy rock band 🎸 but listening and watching them play, these young gorgeous girls know how to kick aaahhhsss they are deserve world recognize, they are so good at it, love it…. Love you all girls so much 👍👍👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️❤️it

Azalea, or Azalea Flowers, is a song released in 2007 by Maya. It's based on a poem by Kim Sowol, one of Korea's greatest poets, written 100 years ago. The poem speaks about him watching his love walk away, and he wants to throw Azalea Flowers on her path, so that the ground before her is soft, as she leaves him, because it's the only thing he can do. This is a poem all Koreans learn in school, as it was also a hidden protest against the Imperial Japanese Occupation of Korea. The poet said that he won't shed s year as he watches the occupiers go. Maya used the poem in the chorus and she has s dialogue with the poet, across space and time. The song was released 10 years after Democracy was established in Korea in 1997, to commemorate the struggles of the students and the Unions, who fought against the Dictators and the Generals, who ruled South Korea for decades. Rolling Quartz gave the song great justice and their interpretation is one of the best covers ever.

Phoenix Noir after doing a little reading on line looks like during the Japanese occupation they even tried to destroy the Korean culture and force their religion on the Korean people I see why the people of Korea were not sad to see the Japanese occupation ended after WWII
