As an 🆔 (B.I's fandom), here is why this song matters to us: he released this song to express how he felt after being kicked out of his former group, iKON - he was their leader and produced the majority of their tracks, getting them major wins, and was the youngest and only k-pop idol to win 'composer of the year'. He was described as 'the next GD'. B.I has struggled a lot through multiple survival shows to get to where he is. Basically - when he describes there being a 'beach at the end of his sleeve', it's because he has wiped so many tears with it.

this song in particular holds such a special place for us fans but also him.. we waited over 2 years for it after he left Ikon. I still tear up listening to it. The best part of the MV is when he is finally smiling! He spend so many years trying to prove his worth to everyone. He produced so many songs for his group and other groups as well and I cant imagine how hard it was for him to leave his ikon members. To make a long story short im just so happy he gets to be doing what he loves again!

coming out of the water is kinda showing a heavy topic in korea because many korean s word by jumping into the han river. after b.i got kicked out of ikon he kinda can say lost everything because from young age when he was 14 years old he tried so hard and build ikon he put almost all his energy and life on ikon the group was basically his whole life he sacrificed so much for the sake of the group it was his youth and all his wishes so after he got kicked out he wasn't sure he wanted to come back to music or not but after getting so much support from his fans after 2 yesrs he finally decided to came back. illa illa and the whole waterfall album is his experience in those 2 years how he felt how he was doing the songs and the album is so personal and raw. this particular scene in illa illa can portray his feelings when he thought about doing that thing as he before indirectly said he thought about doing it multiple time, the music video is part of his story he wanted to do it but survived the way he kept running and running from all those scary feelings and things he experienced in the 2 years the way the people around him stayed with him and helped him and at the end he could find the light and smile again and decided to build a sandcastle again and again, even though he knows it can be crumble again but he won't give up and will build it again. i hope this explanation can be helpful

@@DifferentlyAlike thank you for taking your time listening to his music i'm happy that this explanation could be helpful and help you understand illa illa better. non-fans and casual listeners getting confused while watching illa illa and listening to waterfall is kinda unavoidable since not everyone knows b.i story haha his first album was so meaningful and wasn't just a debut for him and his fans the waterfall album tells a story about him and his experience maybe listening to flow away, help me, then and numb in waterfall album can help you understand his story better since those songs are so raw and he straight up talking about his story there, then is his first response to fans after taking hiatus and explain things there. waterfall is so personal so it's ok if casual fans can't get the whole story while listening to it since they don't know his whole experience, if you can enjoy his music it's already so pleasant i'm sure b.i already get so happy to see people can enjoy his music and fans are always ready to explain if anyone get confused listening to waterfall album. i hope you listen to more of his songs he's a really good music producer and also writes really beautiful lyrics too.

The recording studio scene REALLY gives goosebumps because: First - this is his debut mv after the “you-know-what” Second- this is effing emotional because finally, he’s making music again. Third- the thought of Hanbin in the recording studio AGAIN. As an iKONIC and an ID, I really struggled and bawled my eyes out when he left and especially when he came back. Like- after 2 years, the songwriter of the year writes a song again- oh shocks this makes me so emotional all over again.

This man is amazing. He's multi-talented! He can sing, ichor, play some guitar… He's been around long enough to understand why everyone thinks he's that way. There are so many of us out there, the one thing I know is he's more like a rock star than a singer. It's a weird little thing to say. The one thing I know is that people get really scared of him because they can hear a real voice, and he has that. But we're gonna play out some songs now that'll probably get a huge audience. I think that's what makes this music a great thing to do. And then the other thing is he's one of the greatest vocalists in the world. I like to think the MV is showing a story. This was released as his return album after going through a depressing time after an unfair scandal. In Korea, someone in a suit going to the beach is usually indicative of a suicide attempt. The MV starts with him "surviving the suicide attempt", possibly with newfound drive to continue living and pursuing his dreams despite the difficulties. The beginning section where it's night time represents the struggles and feelings of entrapment, possibly leading to his suicide attempt. The middle (first rap verse) depicts the thoughts he went through leading up to the moment; the middle chorus begins to highlight his current state of mind of appreciating the life he still has; the final rap verse is likely coming to terms with the struggles; and the final hype section is his drive to continue pursuing life regardless of the challenges up ahead, that he knows the "sandcastle will crumble again" but he'll continue building it. The interesting and beautiful thing is he refers to waves very often, especially when it is in front of his eyes in the chorus section. Notice the end when they show him in the studio... they show sound waves of the music recording! AKA MUSIC! The waves metaphorically referred to the music, and the suicide attempt was referring to his consideration of career suicide. Should he give up on music? Ah, but it's everywhere around him and its sweeping him up again. Nope, he's going to try to build that sand castle again and jump back in to the music industry. And there he is at the end of the bridge, standing right at the "gateway" ready to move forward.

The songs in B.I's solo debut album WATERFALL are very raw and emotional. He said he wrote those songs during his hiatus. Like BTBT, illa illa is also an onomatopoeia. They are nonsense words, gibberish, or non-lexical vocables, or how you will call them, that Hanbin made up while writing the songs. BTBT refers to the the way one would stagger while looking at someone who is insanely beautiful, and illa illa refers to the rolling of ocean waves. I think Hanbin is a gifted writer and has always been really creative and experimental with words and sounds; these two song titles really capture his poetic talent.
