A lot of these rugs were involved in some massive flooding in the area and insurance companies will most often just tell people to take the rugs in and see if they can be cleaned because replacing some of them is more trouble than it's worth (especially when it's an out of production rug or wool) plus a lot of people would rather just dump an unwanted rug or mattress into a gully than pay the disposal fee, so they get rescued from gutters after effectively being used as a gutter filter

@@AsryaKino The neighbor's water pipe above me burst at the end of February and ruined four rooms of my rental apartment (both storage rooms, bathroom, hallway) and in desperation I threw almost all the blankets and clothes on the water leaks I could grab (I don't have carpet, only venyl flooring) before the main supply was turned off and I had to have it all cleaned by a dry cleaner and the insurance would have paid for that too, I paid the $40 myself at the time because I felt like I had to fill out 20 pages for the insurance, (typical in Germany) very nerve-wracking. Landlord needed three weeks to renovate and it wasn't done correctly I guess, so I am right now searching for a new apartment before mold is growing. Water damage is terrible :o
