I had a lot more RESPECT on both of you. I can legitimately relate on most of things. Me having a fulltime job, a father of two kids, wanting to become a professional digital artist as well and release my own anime lightnovel, its VERY HARD to balance things specially time. You always need to hold into something to remind yourself on why you desperately wanted to do what you want on the first place when you start to lose on track. BELIEVE YOU CAN AND YOU'RE HALFWAY THERE, (Theodore Roosevelt) is my personal mantra ever since.. I hope this video inspire a lot of people. Thank you ArtCafe I randomly stumbled on this video. Congrats on your book Ross, you have my legitimate respect.

havent watched any podcasts for a while, this one was so relatable. more than half of my projects in high school and college were overambitious and were never completed. i have a big project thats been floating around in my head for years now, but im was always too intimidated to really dive into it. really excited to see both of your works, maybe i will be inspired to start on my own journey.

This is amazing. Gosh I watched the entire video while drawing and thought it really gave me a ton of useful advice and realizations. Seeing this just makes me really believe in what I'm capable of. The conversation gives me a spark of light in my chest that makes me wanna follow my passion and not care about what others say. I mean, after all they are just opinions and you can't possibly please everyone who's against you. I also realized that success is not something that can be done today or tomorrow. It's a long, tedious journey where often you can lose sight of yourself and where you're headed. It's stressful and demanding, too, especially when you have an audience waiting for you, you always feel like every second is gonna pass by worthless if you didn't do anything or focus on that one project you've been wanting to do yet is constantly giving up hope on ever getting it done once you’ve started. But in the end, just trust yourself and keep pushing and reminding yourself of why you decided to start that journey. I want to be able to think like this in every project I’m placing on my shoulders. Overall, a really nice podcast episode to listen to. Hope more people will find this and will feel more motivated to achieve great things.

Thank you for making this video! I can agree too! Learning from failure is definitely key to developing key skills and shaping who we are! Life would be boring if we got it all perfect the first time around and learnt nothing, as you said. I can relate so much to everything discussed. Switching off from work is definitely something I have had trouble doing, not that it's a bad thing but I have recently realised that I also need to have balance between work and relaxation. Also what was mentioned about "remembering why you began" is really important too! There were so many thoughts I had about taking on my MRes degree that I thought "What did I get myself into?" and that "I had bitten off far more than I could chew" because I needed extra time to complete my three study research project in one year. I have now been working extra, so I have been doing this almost for two years now, including all the time inbetween waiting to hear back for my exam and feedback, addressing the amendments, and just the other day submitted my amendments for my thesis. I am now waiting for it all to be processed to hear back whether my amendments have been accepted. Now looking back on it all, I realised these emotions are probably part of the process and thought about what I really wanted. It even put me off going further to study a PhD while I was experiencing this. Now I am actually looking to pursue my goal of achieving a PhD into a topic that I am very passionate about. I am happy I committed to the project and followed through, because now I get the chance to publish my own projects that I have been working on continuously for around four years now. Pushing through long-term projects are always challenging, but the final product is always so worth it! I am so glad to see my that my hard work is finally paying off after many consistent years of working hard! What was said about a good support group definitely rings true for me! Just by surrounding myself with good people, who are positive, supportive, and encouraging I am actually able to achieve more than I ever imagined! I have definitely noticed a big difference in my mental health for sure and it's all about who you surround yourself with. People just want to drag you down, but if you push the negativity away and spend time with people who are positive, then it really does wonders for not only mental health, but also motivation. I have had some experiences with negative people who want to drag you down constantly and criticise everything and it really did not create a healthy or good mental state for me in terms of believing in my own abilities, wanting to learn, grow, and develop. In the end, I just cut them out of my life because they were not good for me. As you've discussed before, there are always haters and people who will say negative things. These people have deep problems within themselves and are probably in a dark pit of negativity, it is important not to let them get to you. The main thing to focus on are the amount of supporters of your work! We can't please everybody unfortunately, that's just how the world is and that's ok. We just have to look past the negativity and keep pushing forward with a positive mindset, good, positive, and uplifting people who appreciate your hard work! At the end of the day you have to focus on achieving your goals, what's important to you, what you value, what you want to put into the project, and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks because everyone is going to have an opinion and it's not always going to be what we like to hear and they aren't always true. Most of what people say is a reflection of who they are and that's totally on them! So take things with a grain of salt and keep focused and keep pushing, regardless of what other people think!
