@@radiorob7543 I find that term a bit annoying. He played with them on several songs, and that was it. Plainly they were mates with him, but it is not as if Preston was a significant part of their career. Meantime, George Martin facilitated their studio recording efforts, played parts on many songs, arranged orchestras, and the rest. I am thinking if anyone warrants the term "5th Beatle", it was him. Or, as noted in the above comments, others who were long term operators in their studio works.

George stopped playing guitar for a year or so to focus on the sitar. But for three years, from 1969 to 1971, he was one of the most musical guitar players/songwriters in all of rock. Watch him construct his rhythm part on the video of John recording "Oh My Love". Great song, but George's guitar elevates it to the heavens.

@@abcxyz53 Uh, the "Let It Be" guitar solo (album version)? "Something" probably has to be the best Beatles guitar solo ever (unless you count Eric Clapton on "While my Guitar ..." John barely manages to play the very simple "Get Back" solo, and messed it up a few times. Paul played a more aggressive rock and roll style, which suited certain songs (e.g. Helter Skelter, Taxman), But George was the best guitarist in the band. By far.

The Beatles are a life long friend. We grew up together, felt the joys and pain. Not always on my mind as I grow older and more distant, but all it takes is a song when up or down, and we’re once again in support, right along side and right back where it began. When that feeling transcends everything else and can at a moment snap you back in, there is more in that feeling than life in of itself. Lifelong friends to the end.

For all the talent in the Beatles, and especially Paul's genius playing of the bass, when it comes down to brass tacks, my favorite Beatles songs must have John on lead vocals. Dig A Pony never had any radio play except on the college low power stations. This can easily rank as their greatest song, or at least in the top five. John's voice is hauntingly beautiful, as he so often is. I also think he wrote most of the lyrics to Dig A Pony. That is always a source of debate with followers of the Beatles. Was it John, Paul, or both who wrote the lyrics and the chord line? In my uneducated opinion, this one is all John. Shout out to Ringo for steady rhythm and George for his very creative lead guitar. We will never see the likes of these four again.

A mi este tema, siempre me a parecido muy interesante y una especie de genialidad, muy infravalorada. La voz de John, el bajo de Macca y la solista de Harrison, hacen que este tema sea muy grande.

Love Paul singing into the echoing mic at the end. He was always looking for a new sound, effect, etc. George was playing a new Fender Telecaster given to him by Fender. It weighed a ton, was solid rosewood, which is why he’s so hunched over.

Fantastic performance by a band that hadn't played live for years. Just incredibly good. I know the footage is all cut together but it seemed to me that both Paul and John were looking for eye contact with each other but missing each other at certain times. If anyone else thought the same I'd really appreciate your remarks about this.

Yeah. Quick little subtle glances, partly making sure they're on the same page, performance-wise, but more so looking at their friend they've been through thick and thin with, and all the emotions and baggage that come with being with someone for so long. Like, this is the last hurrah. The documentary perfomance of "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" is my favorite for this very reason. It has that same "trying to catch their eye" thing that you mentioned.
@marksaunders4142

You're wrong. They had been practising non stop for 2 months. It's from the let it be sessions where they were meant to do a live TV show. The roof concert would replace that. As for it being cut together you couldn't be more wrong. These boys were geniuses brought together by years of playing together. Go watch the documentary and you'll see.
@favouritemoon4133
@favouritemoon4133 Жыл бұрын
@@marksaunders4142 I know they had been practicing/rehearsing, but practicing/rehearsing is *not* the same as a live performance. During the rooftop concert there were something like nine different cameras filming from different angles, and this footage most certainly *is* comprised of multiple cuts from those different angles.
@marksaunders4142
@marksaunders4142 Жыл бұрын
@@favouritemoon4133 no its not. There are no cuts in the rooftop performance. You can watch the whole thing from the roof one song after the other. 3 cameras on roof . 2 on street. 1 on opposite roof. I hidden in reception. Have you even watched the documentary get back? Stop talking bs
@Thomas15
@Thomas15 Жыл бұрын
@@marksaunders4142 Do you even know what a ‘cut’ means? I just means switching between different shots that have been filmed by separate cameras. And clearly anyone with eyes can see the rooftop concert film cuts between multiple shots: close, medium, wide, extreme wide, etc.
