The culture around horses in the west is a lot different, where they are now mostly seen primarily as pets or work animals. In movies and television, eating horses is often portrayed as a "last resort" food - during war time or famine. Also the production of horse meat is illegal in the US, so it's quite rare to find anyone here who's actually eaten horse. Thanks for sharing, Dig Dig! Your videos are always interesting!

There's a problem here with people saying "the West" - as most of them just mean the USA. Eating horsemeat is quite normal in several Western countries, including France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. It's not commonplace as horsemeat tends to be expensive. There's a lot of people here declaring horse meat to be illegal in various countries, when generally it isn't. Consumption of horse meat is illegal in many US states, but the production of it isn't and in several states it's still legal to eat. Horse meat isn't illegal in Canada - you can find it in butchers and supermarkets in Toronto and Quebec. Eating horse meat is relatively unusual, but it's not as rare as some commenters are suggesting.

horse meat is eaten in the east of Eurasia, in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and some regions of Russia, for example, in Tatarstan. Red caviar is very popular in Russia, it is considered a delicacy, we have many types of it, depending on the breed of fish, but we eat it on sandwiches, 1 piece of white bread or baguette, butter and caviar on top,

Those salmon Roe as you call it westerners would call it salmon caviar are bigger than what we get here I always thought that they were much smaller than that those are huge. No it's not not popular is just depends on people and what they like here it's sold usually in much smaller size than what you have I mean they're tiny in comparison to what you have and they usually sold with a possibility of cream cheese if you want to mix them together... I have seen small packages for people trying to impress somebody with the idea of salmon caviar add caviar itself is not kosher so having something that looks like caviar and it's slightly salty like caviar well you get the idea it's sort of the kosher variety.
@DigDigJAPAN2 ай бұрын

You're correct, that we, in the USA don't regularly eat salmon roe. We mostly just see it in Japanese restaurants and sushi bars. Some very expensive restaurants are starting to use it. We also don't eat horse meat. A long time ago, horse meat was used in canned dog food. I don't know why we don't eat it because they certainly exterminate healthy horses just because they have a broken leg or foot. Since they're pastoral animals, their meat should be very clean too. I've always wanted to ask. When you eat the yolk of an egg, what do you do w/ the white? I'm sure you don't waste it.
@DigDigJAPAN3 ай бұрын
Thank you for always watching! I learned that salmon roe is not common in the US, and I realized that food culture is diverse! I thought horse meat was eaten in other countries too, although I think it's also a cultural difference! I freeze any leftover egg whites, and when I have a lot, I make meringues☺️
@SerDinoOfficial2 ай бұрын
Hey, It's also worth noting that the US mainland is so large, we have many different food cultures here regionally as well. For example, most of the US may never see Salmon/Fish Roe outside of expensive Japanese restaurants but where I live in California, it's a very common grocery store item. California, at least the southern area of the state, is a huge mixing pot of cultures. Where as in other states, you would see much less verity.
