Making the Japanese woodworking joinery, "Osaka-jo otemon hikae-bashira tsugite" (Osaka castle otemon gate's pillar splice).
The two sides have a mountain-shaped joint, and the two sides have a dovetail joint. This joint was for a long time a mysterious and impossible joint; X-ray photography finally revealed its internal structure in 1983. It is a superior and solid joint that can support tons of weight without adhesives.
