Opened the video just to check it out and see what you would get food-wise ; didn't think I would watch till the end, an hour and ten minutes later I watched the entire thing!!! Very interesting conversation, would definitely like to see more of these in the future. Also when you were talking about Turkish Alcohol did you mean "Raki"? P.S. if you ever visited Egypt would love to have you over for a meal.

I haven't seen this series before, but I want more, and I'm glad to see more history channels (inc. Tasting History and Linfamy) tackling history through food, art, music, etc., things that are often ignored.

Nice video bro, Just wanted to point out that the great seljuk empire did not last 30 years, it was longer than this.. also you mentioned after Timur came ghorids, but I'm sure the ghorids came after the ghaznavids which was way before Timur.
@HikmaHistory
@HikmaHistory 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Regarding the Seljuks, I meant that at their peak, they lasted for 30 yrs (1062-92), not the entire dynasty. What point did I say Ghurids came after Timur - I don't remember that...

Salaam Great video Loved the conversation Watched the whole thing I would love to see more like this as well In fact I wouldn’t mind taking part in 1 of these with you - I am currently releasing a series on Al-Andalus with weekly videos - if you ever wanted to do that I would be willing - never tried halal Spanish food either - so that would be good to Great work well done

Bro, I can't believe you said Parthians were Turkic. The Parthian language is in the north-west Iranian language family, along with modern languages such as Balochi, Kurdish, Gilaki, etc. Parthia was in present-day north-east Iran and Turkmenistan, and came to replace Media as the name of north-west Iran in the Sassanian period. There were no Turkic groups in any of those areas at that time. In fact, modern day Turkmenistan is a part of the proto-Iranian homeland. The Parni tribe of Parthia and the Dahae confedary which it belonged to, were related to Scythians but how does that make them Turkic? "Scythian" was basically any Iranian nomadic group. As an Afghan, you of all should know the role of Scythians in shaping the Afghan cultures and languages. Those Scythians that remained in the steppes did (mostly) get Turkified in the Islamic age, but that doesn't make ancient Scythians and their descendants in West Asia Turkic. The closest related peoples to Scythians today are the Ossetians, followed by Pashtuns, Kurds, Tajiks and Pamiris.

But in paintings the ottomans don't look turkish. A turk, a real turk looks like a Uzbek, or a Turkmenistan etc. So why did the ottomans call themselves turks ?
@HikmaHistory
@HikmaHistory 2 жыл бұрын
Cuz those were their origins - as the Sultans started taking non-Turkish consorts, their appearance would become less Turkic.

Glad to hear noone claims Turks invented Yoghurt. My Turkish classmates (in the Netherlands) brought that up, but it is false. The Mongols invented yoghurt. That food looks tasty

If you want to be honest about history of the Ottoman Empire you have to address the relocation and genocide of 1.5 million Armenians.
