the hillside is something i would just dream to have on my own property. rock walls, natural water falling down, and even a kickass fire pit within the rocks.

So f*king jealous. Landscapes such as this don't exist in Europe, regardless of how much money you have. Say what you want about U.S. politics, healthcare, etc. but the land is so god damn beautiful, AND it's not overcrowded like elsewhere on this planet.

@Sigurbergur Andrésson UK but I've been around Europe. Problem is that you won't be walking long before you come across a farm, a road or some other sign of civilization. Deforestation and privatisation of land are just too common. Show me a picturesque landscape and somewhere in there will be a highway, a farm or someone's house or something. Or a 100m away, just outside the frame anyway.

I agree. I live in both Ma and NY. My NY home is near the city and my Ma home is in a very rural area. I used to work for a large corporation and when I went to the corporate office in Ohio people would always make reference that I was from Boston even though I lived 90 miles from Boston and my town did not even have a store. I am not a lover of the city but NY goes rural pretty fast as you leave the city. Great hiking and Mt. biking.

New York State is without a doubt the most diverse and beautiful state east of the Mississippi River; perhaps in all of the contiguous states. New York has shores on two Great Lakes, the Catskill Mountains, Adirondack Mountains, and a portion of the Appalachian Mountains. It has the gorgeous rolling hills of the Allegheny Plateau. Let's not forget about Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, major river valleys, and the fact that it has more waterfalls per square mile than any other state. There are breathtaking gorges all over the state with some of the best swimming holes and rock faces for cliff-jumping. Then there is the beauty that comes every Autumn when the leaves change colors. The winter up here is beautiful as well and there's plenty to do during the cold season, that is, if you're not some Nancy Boy from the South that can actually handle the cold. It's just a shame our beautiful state is run by some of the most ignorant, simple-minded politicians.
