If you're actually having a reinforced slab poured (which is a lot more digging than just pouring a clean base, then insulation and screed) please have the slab tied into the foundations so it can serve a structural purpose!
@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ragnar, how do you tie the slab into foundation? Interesting…
@Ragnar85043 жыл бұрын
@@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm Usually by bashing large holes into the walls (make a 1000 mm wide hole, leave 1000 mm alone, make the next hole, etc.). That way, the walls rest partly on the new slab. I don't think the holes need to go all the way through but I'm neither a builder nor a structural engineer, I just saw that done in a pre-WWI apartment building when they needed to reinforce the foundations during the loft conversion.

When my husband and I were in Belgium many moons ago, we tasted a lot of the different beers. I'm not a huge fan of beer, but really liked most of the ones we tried. The Belgians have a way of brewing and the hops they use are so unique. We'd like to go back to Belgium on a beer tasting tour. It is an absolutely amazing country, that is underrated. It's not only beautiful, but the history of it's ports and importance in trade aren't credited in most history books. The people were absolutely wonderful, as well.

Once when I was your age I had your energy. We had a construction Co that did renos for the first 6-7 years, then we did pads, roads to turn key. I helped with every aspect from carrying wood, putting in septic systems, screwing down floors, elect. water, carrying hod (wheel barrows of concrete). I am 70 now and would have eliminated a few of the very heavy jobs that women are not built to do, but glad I did not sit on the side lines either. As a Rancher I worked cows, horses, pigs, chickens and sheep. I trained at least 75 dogs (pets). As a fire fighter, and a medical tech., I went over cliffs and into house fires to save people who could not save themselves. As a first Capt. I trained others. My son and grandsons (one just made Capt. for the forest service in Ca. USA where we keep having record breaking fires every year) are also in construction as well as fire fighting now. I worked hard all my life, but when I look back at it.... I smile.

I don’t know how much land you have, but I’m reminded of a story by a client I had, she explained her Father had built her home as a wedding present, also giving her in her sole name the farm it was on, she explained there were repairs which would be needed, she had cut and milled the trees her Father had planted for the purpose 50 years before and the timber was drying and would be ready for use in a couple of years. She had planted the replacement trees to be ready in another 50 to 100 years. Ironically, I met her former husband a few years later, he was a friend of my wife’s cousin. He lived on a farm, owned a timber mill, ran his mill the same way, 1% cut, replace what you use, use it all. A shame they split, another funny, their kids also split, the girls to their father and the sole boy to the mother!

@kathyusa-iowa51373 жыл бұрын
When I experienced the "every beer has an ideal glass shape", that enhances the flavor AND experience of that beer, I was amazed. We certainly don't have that here! The big difference is that the pubs in Europe don't carry but a handful of beers, so it's workable to have the brewer's glass available. Here, each bar carries far too many selections to be able to stock that many unique glass styles. There is something ultimately satisfying about drinking a beer from a glass designed by the brewer to bring out the best in their beer. 😉
