Took the Garrett AT Pro metal detector out to an abandoned park. This was all farm land up until around 1940 when it was purchased by the township and converted into baseball fields, which were then abandoned in the late 1970's. The area did host a traveling circus from the 1950's - around 1985 as well as the occasional small carnival and music show. This being said, there are tons of shallow modern coins but also tons of trash. Any deep signals have a good chance of being from the original farm land and those can be really interesting when you get down deep past the garbage.
This is my "go to" site when I don't have time to door knock for new permissions. Because it's available to me anytime I usually work the site very slowly and try to clear the areas I hit one long row at a time. Today I got fortunate enough to bag 4 modern silvers but I'm sure many more are there, I'll just save the rest for another day....

Good little hunt! Nice finds man! Its good to change the routine every now and then..the same old same old gets old quick. Makes it more interesting. I've been hunting farm fields two weeks straight...I think its time to hit up a few tot lots for a while. HH!

+MNpicker You are right. I hunt a lot in the woods and it gets to be a chore sometimes digging 8-10" down through tree roots to only find a shotgun shell headstamp. It's nice to switch it up and bang out a park where everything is closer to the surface and it's easy digging. Lots more trash though but it's a tradeoff that I'll make now and then. Appreciate you stopping by.

+Field Sweeper Thanks man. So far never a problem on my own so I hope you didn't jinx me! Lol. I only worry a little when I'm out in the woods during hunting season. Sometimes guys hear a sound in the woods and just shoot in that direction! During deer season I'll unplug my headphones so hunters can hear my machine beeping 100 yards away.

At least you found some silver, yesterday I went out for a couple of hours and found nothing but clad at a city park where I usually go when I just feel like detecting for the hell of it. I noticed that someone was there before me metal detecting and this person was not covering his holes the right and the worse part was that he was leaving his trash inside the hole. I wished that I could video taped him and put him on KZbin so everyone could see what a scrum bag looks like ! Sorry I laid this on you but I just had to tell someone because jerks like this one gives us good people a bad reputation !

+Maurilio Zamora Man I hate hunting a spot and seeing unfilled holes all over the place. People like that are the reason parks and schools are now posting signs for "No Metal Detecting". There's always a few idiots that ruin things for the masses. Finding trash in the hole is just icing on the cake. Not all of us are like that though. Best of luck in your hunting!

Thanks. This park was abandoned back in the early 70's and every time I go there I find a good amount of silver coins. There's not even a road to get to it anymore so most local people don't even know it's there. Good luck out there and hope you get some silver (or platinum!)
@DigginDevon

You are very good at pin pointing with that AT Pro & not digging big holes to get those finds. Lucky you can dig in your parks, have tried to get permission but the local council owns all the public parks & never give permission. You can however detect in parks provided you do not break the surface of the ground, so not much point really. You can find loads of WW2 artefacts here in our city parks if you had permission, lots of history here in Plymouth, Devon UK. Happy hunting :)
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 7 жыл бұрын
That's too bad about your parks. I'm sure there is a ton of history just rotting away under your feet. Luckily for me this particular park has been abandoned and no one ever goes here any more. I've been digging here maybe 4-5 times for 8 hours stretches and only once did I see anyone else here besides me. I never found anything older than maybe 1940 here so I just don't hit it too often. Thanks for stopping by and take care.

hey QH, how do you find the old parks, it's hard 4 me to find them, goggle maps, historic aerials ?? nice finds, love them slivers:-)) GOD BLESS YOU & FAMILY MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 8 жыл бұрын
+MrCoin Digger I do use historic aerials often but honestly I am just always looking for potential spots whenever I am driving around, and I drive a lot for work. When I see a promising area then I will research it afterwards and see what sort of age it has. If it meets my criteria (pre-1960 activity) I will knock and ask permission or if its a public place just head on out. Word of mouth travels in my area so a lot of people know me by now and some people refer me to others so it kind of snowballs. I am fortunate to say the least. Thank you for watching and happy hunting my friend.

The spoon, i believe is a kids toy, is cricket or clicker!!!! If it is painted, really could be!!!! They were noise makers... They bent on them self and pushed on the what you is the spoon handle and it clicked, if it is made almost paper thin metal of thin or aluminum, steel...... They were easily purchased at 5 and dime as toy or carnival gift/ prize.......

You are becoming my favorite detector on KZbin! Do you mind giving me some pointers on my new At pro? My question is how do you ground balance it I mean I know how but everyone always says you have to start ground balancing it when there is zero tones but I swear where I go I start swinging it all over my grandpa's Old Farm on the ground and I get little tones the whole time I can never find a spot where I am not getting little tones
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 7 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the farm soil is heavily mineralized and that can make ground balancing difficult. I dig at a few places that are like that and I have to manually set my ground balance, usually around 84-88 on the AT Pro. Could be from years of fertilizer mixing with the soil. Just to rule out that it's your machine causing the issue, try to ground balance somewhere else (like your house) just to make sure your machine isn't malfunctioning.
@jakehenson4907
@jakehenson4907 7 жыл бұрын
Quarter Hoarder wow thank you so much man!! You're the best!! Another question if you don't mind is all the time ill be swinging and will hear a like 80-90 tone and it will disappear then ill swing over that spot over and over and maybe like 1 out of 6 swings it'll ding again, should I dig those? Or what do you think? Thanks again man you're the best!!
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 7 жыл бұрын
Hate to sound vague but it really depends. If your coil is brushing up against something while you swing (twigs, dirt mound, sticks, etc..) it will cause the processor to 'false', making a one-time high pitch blip. This is pretty common. If your definitely not hitting anything I would really slow the swing down and try to go over the spot again. Turn 90degrees and swing over it slowly again. Keep turning 90 degrees until you've swung over the spot in every direction really slowly. If you can't get it to repeat than skip it. It's possible that there is a deep target there, but most likely it is gonna be junk or something iron that has a flat surface on one side causing a high tone in the middle of otherwise low tones. It's one of those things that I'd have to hear myself to give more precise info on. If you are new with the machine I would concentrate more on repeatable signals until you learn the small nuances of the machine.
@jakehenson4907
@jakehenson4907 7 жыл бұрын
Wow thank you so much!!!! I was wondering if when I bumped it if it gave a false signal! You just made my life so much easier!! Seriously thank you so much!!

I think you're fine on how you're handling the ground balancing. Look at it like this......you can't ground balance too much or too often. Right? Also, a tip I can add whenever you're being hammered with the chattering/small nonstop tones, back off of your sensitivity (depth) and then readjust (go deeper) as you progress. This has always helped me quiet down my AT Pro as well as my new AT Max in heavily mineralized soil areas. Hope this helps.

Someone help me I bought a Garrett AT pro and burried 2 modern quarters around 3in. Down to practice ....i can't find them now ...how come? I've changed my setting 100x
@j.d.9648
@j.d.9648 6 жыл бұрын
Just some thoughts, since you're asking for help. You need to be a bit more specific. To say you've changed your settings "100x" doesn't tell us much. What settings? What mode are you using? What is your ground balance number? Sensitivity? Do you by chance have any VDI discriminated out? Iron audio on/off? You see? In order for anyone to try to assist you, you have to give some more information. Now, on the bright side.........if you buried two modern quarters around 3 inches and you can't find them.......congrats to you for digging some REALLY nice plugs and resetting them to leave no trace whatsoever of where you dug!! Good job!

+Quarter Hoarder I'm not a fan of the at pro, when I had one it had massive falsing issues the shift locks broke and to top it off the speakers died 3 times. I also hated the bell tones, I'm more of a fan of tones like what the aka sorex has If you have heard it.
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 8 жыл бұрын
+Blood Guns and Honor I've heard of the AKA Sorex Pro detector but I've never actually seen one in action before. I'm use to the tones the AT Pro gives at this point so they don't really bother me anymore. When you run it in pro mode the tones are much more tolerable than when in standard mode. Those can be really obnoxious. Glad you found a detector you are happy with though. That's all that really matters, and of course that you can find good stuff with it. Happy hunting brother.
