Digging Stumps With 49 Year Old 580B Case Hoe

The focal point of the video is utilizing the benefit of the hydraulic power of a 1973 Case 580B backhoe to dig a few stumps and scrub brush to clear the way for my daughters new shed.
We end the video with a few swings of the axe to trim up a small tree that recently had been removed. Enjoy.....just fun in the sun burning fuel and making noise. #case580B, #casebackhoe, #outdoors

I wore my knees out running a 580 case with the foot swing working on the Rail road. Thats why I have a JD with wobble sticks. Eny road a backhoe is a very handy thing to keep around.

It IS hard on the knees pushing down all the time. That's why I added 1 1/2'' angle iron on the pedals. That cocks my foot back just enough to not have to push so hard. Yes, I'd take ANY backhoe over a shovel and wheelbarrow anyday !!

@@EverydayProjects Those are the best projects. Though I would love to have the time to 'restore' one, I don't do it because we still use most all the tractors for things around the property once they are mechanically ready to perform. Sometimes its a simple project and sometimes its deeply involved. You're gonna love the tractor. But make sure you use clean fuel and change the fuel filters a couple times the first year just to be sure. Moisture and tiny particulate will kill the injector pump and injectors quickly !!
@EverydayProjects

@@tractorman4461 Good advice on the fuel filter change. I mounted an aftermarket filter mount that takes spin-on filter cartridges and I like it so far. Also, I drained out the tank last year and fixed some leaks with JB Weld then painted the outside, So far it's leak free and holding up. I posted many videos about my 580CK on my channel (not trying to blow my own horn here) and you may have already seen them but the most exciting one was last week when I finally got the engine to start--first start in 20 years. I would like to do more with the tractor too but time and money get in the way somehow. All the Best Craig from Everyday Projects.

Funny, at work we have two 410 JD backhoes still, they are of course.."JD" pattern, or backhoe pattern. Then most of us run the exacavtor pattern instead, it is quite the change going from joysticks to levers again, and that boom and stick functions being on opposite sides 🤦🤦🤦🤦 That is how we mess with each other, slip in the hoe change the pattern control and watch the fussing begin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Relative comfort, what a good boy 😁😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣 I had no idea you were going swing an ax!! Hey, somebody has to be the dummy and I do it the best when it comes to dirt work. LOL Tyler has told me about having to switch the pattern on occasion...some guys do and some don't. Heck he made dozens and dozens of butcher knives from cross cut saw blades...From scratch. I still have his box of patterns, skinning knives, butcher knives all kinds of knives. I'm considering buying an older backhoe as the newer machines are pricey. My chief concern is the availability of parts. As someone who owns older machines, are parts hard to come by? I would only buy popular brands, I think, like Case. Thanks for any advice you can give.
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 Жыл бұрын
I've not had too much of an issue with parts except for exotic or extremely old tractors. The best thing to happen to us guys that have old equipment is the internet and the willingness of suppliers to use it. Most anything you need can be found in many locations by searching industrial equipment parts or even fine tuning the search to specifics like 1973 Case 580B head gasket, or generally just engine parts. The big issue then is the shipping costs because it does vary, so its a good idea to find two suppliers for comparison. Usually you can get a shipping quote on the shopping cart before committing to the purchase. Once you find a reliable supplier, try to stay with them because your purchases are kept in your account and its much easier going back to the same place. I LOVE Messicks, though their shipping is a bit more, I have always received excellent service and seldom have an issue with the parts. On the hoe purchase, I'd suggest keeping away from some of the models or brands that have hydraulic steering, because without the engine running, you have no mechanical steering control. Doesn't sound like much of a problem, but wait until it is and you'll see quickly. Now, that's hydraulic STEERING, not power steering. With power steering, you can still control the tractor in tow when it inevitably refuses to run. And it always breaks down far from the shop !! But the Case, Ford and John Deere are all good hoes. I'd stay away from Massey Ferguson and Internationals. Good luck but buy some wrenches....you'll probably need them. LOL

I think CK stands for the Case term: Construction King and the model designation of CK ended around '71. All the models of this era carry the CK designation but the '73 and '74's are actually 580B or 580C models. Also the CK had an oil bath breather and the B and C had dry air cleaners. At least that's what I've understood.
