This is one of those albums I listen to once or twice a year at most. A lot of his discography to me feels like movies, where I may not revisit them a lot but it's always impactful whenever I do get back to it.

I listened to it once when it came out and never listened to it again. I'd rather listen to Joey Bada$$ or J. Cole. They had better albums with way more replay value.

@runegeezy I'm not a huge Cole guy anymore. Love Friday Night Lights but that's about it for ones I really enjoy. Joey is my guy, but 1999 and Summer Knights are still the ones I return to for him. Kendrick for me has exceeded my expectations since I first heard Section.80, so to each their own

I thought I knew this album to a T, but this video (as well as part 1) makes me look at this album in a whole other light now. I’m kinda fighting tears just thinking about it, especially considering this album came out in a pretty dark time for me, and I related so much to this album.

a bit of a reach but i think Tupac's answer to the caterpillar poem is right at the beginning of Wesley's Theory. "every n-word is a star" ofc, you need to put the album on repeat, but i just think it's interesting.

Thank you for taking the time to create such an insightful breakdown of one of, if not, thee most creative albums in the last 25 years! This is what art is about. I was late on this album, I’m just glad it caught me when it did. People always say what they say about this album but I promise you, better late than never! For anyone curious, this album is the equivalent of whatever your favorite film director does in audio form!

I remember when this album first dropped, I was alone in my living room in the dark, earphones on, just absorbing the album whole. I never understood why this album received negative reviews when it first came out, I thought it was perfect! Then I realized, the only people who didn’t like it, were people who weren’t actual Kendrick Lamar fans (people who never listened to Section 80, Overly Dedicated) they were fans that came from GKMC, and so they were expecting another GKMC. This album was a masterpiece. I enjoyed it way more than Damn, which ironically did more numbers than TPAB.

It’s insane that despite how unbelievably complex and masterful this album is, it’s even more profound in the context of his greater discography. Literary master of the modern age.

I don’t think the reveal of the homeless man being God was a gotcha moment by God in “How much a dollar cost”. I think Kendrick is saying in his car he’s having a staring match and an internal monologue with himself and the homeless man, he was struggling with the bitterness that’s normal with people’s ideas of homeless people, they’re deciding to smoke that crack, I’m not paying for his drugs, entitled, lazy…. Etc, but Kendrick is on a spiritual journey, and his internal struggle is that bitterness and the ideology that we are all God’s children. And that passing judgment on one of God’s children will condemn him to hell. And the cost of that dollar is truly realized by Kendrick. I think is symbolic of him shedding ego and pride.

when Mr Morale dropped its been a few years since i listened to TPAB, when that song game on when i was giving the whole album a listen (i stayed up till midnight) my first thought was the song (Mortal Man) after making it to "Savior", when he quotes "2pacs dead gotta think for yourself", Change comes from within, nobodies gonna help you you gotta do it yourself. because at the end of the story pac is silent meaning he's no longer there and Kendrick specifically states "Only hope that we kinda have left is music and vibrations A lot of people don't understand how important it is" the whole analogy of the butterfly's life comes to an end, in the end cycle of a butterflies lifecycle, butterflies lay eggs and they die shortly after, Everyone is a caterpillar, meaning everyone has a butterfly inside of them" the egg or as some people say "plant seeds for the future generations to grow" pac interview influences kendricks pen pac laid his eggs (planted seeds) when he died and his wisdom in interviews and writings/music which were left behind in "music and vibrations" for future generations. pac died 1996, kendrick was born in 1987 meaning kdot was 9 years old.

I definitely imagine the kind of fame and fortune while trying to be honest with yourself and also trying to be a good person, I imagine that as constantly walking a tightrope with alligators beneath you. Obviously there are many good things about walking the metaphorical rope, but you probably can’t spend much time relaxing with your guard down either.
