IMPORTANT NOTE - Other people were involved in the creation of this song, from engineering, to mixing, and mastering, and someone I failed to mention, and absolutely should have, is Eric E-Bass Johnson who also has guitar credit on this song. My sincerest apologies for not including the complete credits in this video. There have been questions raised in the comments over who did what, and who didn't. I'm not able to determine those specifics, but the facts are that both Ken and E-Bass have official credits on this song (Ken as "Acoustic Guitar" and E-Bass as "Guitar") When working on this video, I attempted to reach to everyone else listed in the credits (Including Syleena Johnson and Mix Engineer Manny Marroquin) and either didn't hear back, or in E-Bass' case, there was no contact info available online (short of an old myspace and abandoned Twitter). We're nearly 20 years removed from the release of this album, and it would be impossible for ME to determine if there's anything different going on than what the official credits say, since it's just one person's word against another, with both of them listed in the credits. What I do know is that I should have mentioned E-Bass' contribution to this song and I didn't, and for that, I'm sorry.

She really is an incredible singer and vocalist. This is probably one of your best breakdowns. The layers of it from the opening to dead prez as I watch presently. Big up’s bro edit I see what the last lyric verse you did…and broke it down…yeah man big ups to you for this. It’s very challenging for me to talk about all the levels to hip hop and how it exposed me to the industry and why it moves so quickly (a spiritual and social phenomena) in the way that 88-97/98 is considered old school now and 2010 hip hop is old…to folks listening to 2023 hip hop so many levels and then listening to a song moby used and seeing how musicians and music can be exploited (mind you I just watched a very short documentary on Peter tosh and the discussion related to the Barrett brothers) it’s a lot. And it’s been discussed and rediscussed. I’ve been around musicians all my life, of various ethnicities. I can say you’re the first “white” musician in a long time I’d love to build and discuss music life society with for your capacity to just get it as expressed in that last lyric you expressed love for. Blessings to you bro.
@JairCee

It’s weird that’s 2010 stuff is old. What is the 2000’s stuff? Retro? I grew up on that time and I look back at it fondly because it’s like a natural progression of the late 90’s, whereas the 2010’s felt like a jump forward and backwards in many ways

I feel like Lauryn Hill who uas been largely inactive musically since the 1990s should have said you don't need a sample, how about I sing on your record. Leave the collaboration to the artists and stop giving everything to the lawyers. However it seems the artists are just as fragile about their work as the record companies are. Lauryn could have introduced herself to a whole new generation of young music consumers go and she can rap amazing too. The possibility was endless for her if she was more open and had kept that collaboration vibe hip hop was founded on.

Amazing channel ! I personally can attest that mechanical licensing is the way. I did it to John Williams’ “the March” (superman theme). We were gonna bootleg it. I called the CMRRA Here in Canada.. it was a last chance shot in the dark .. and due to the fact I time stretched certain notes to change the scaling tempo to be time synced they said it counted as a reproduction!! I got to put my name on it “Vinyl Syndicate” and the song name “Man of Steal” (as in yoinked) . The % to Warner/Tamerlane was micro.

This was genius. Shi shud win some award or somethin - im serious - top level content. There's jus so much packed in here. In 16 min. Compelling stuff. And jus filled with info - seems like dead prez affected u too - cuz the 16min blew by. Like some1 here wrote - you really get this hiphop shi - the power of what it is but also what it can be. And wow yes good art is abstract & distilled. And wow yes it's us who puts it all together from the bits & pieces - if the artist does their part well & compels us to. Explains also so well why we luv a movie, a painting, a song, a poem, etc - it makes deep sense to us & gets us engaged - we're in a sense a part of the crestion. And, y the best art doesnt "try" to be understood. It jus trust that some1 will get it as long as feeling & emotion are expressed thoughtfully - as long as the artist, the creator, shows us they "get it." Good stuff man. Thank you.

The guitars were actually done by Eric “EBASS” Johnson. Not Ken. So he didn’t “dig” deep enough

ive heard the term "interpolation" come up alot lately and ive never heard of it. i genuinely appreciate you including the meaning of it because i just knew it was something adjacent to sampling and never thought to look it up. that kind of genuine care and knowledge that your audience is passionate about what youre talking and eager to learn can be rare to find on this platform. especially from such a friendly and likable personality. youve earned my sub and deserve a million more dude

Can’t lie…I wasn’t impressed in the beginning, but from the interview and after I was won over. I thought you were gonna give fluff that most fans know but you surprisingly went more in depth on a topic that I didn’t think had anything else to offer. Can’t wait for the next vid 🔥🔥🔥
