You have talked me into buying a tandem, after having single axis for years. Thanks for your opinion about the use of the tandem.

I just picked up my first dump truck. A 1988 Peterbilt 357 tandem. 2 owner truck with 144,000 original miles and a 10 ton Dynaweld beavertail. Couldn’t afford not to buy it! You have inspired me. Your videos rock. 🤙

I haul gravel with a 88 Mack R686st tandem with a 350 4-valve 13 speed Road Ranger in the mountains of southeast Kentucky. Give 15,500 for the truck and drove it 300 miles home. Haven’t had hardly any troubles with it since I’ve been driving which has been 5 months and drive it around 350 to 400 miles a day 5-6 days a week. It’s paid for itself at least twice if not 3 times lol. I’m 100% a pre 2000 Mack man started driving a 76 DM800 in 2001 hauling coal it was slow but it pulled 65 ton just like it’d pull 30 lol

Love the channel, just found it. I am currently bidding on a 96 RD688S. It needs work, but better than having an emmisions truck in my opinion.

I have 4 trucks all are mid to late 90's and I'll never own one newer than a 99 because I don't have to have E-logs or emissions and we do all of our own mechanic work and don't need any real specialty tools so we don't have to pay a shop $110 per hour. As far as being a wash it's not even close, in 2010 I bought my 99 Peterbilt 379 with a 550 Cat and 18 speed for $16,500 and today it's value is around $32,000 to $35,000. Just to replace the emissions on a newer truck can cost over $20,000. My nephew is a shop forman for a big truck shop and he said that these newer trucks spend almost as much time in the shop as they do on the road and the repair bills are ridiculous on the newer trucks. Also insurance and sales tax is much higher. Ya I prefer my older trucks any day of the week. Great video Todd!

I run a 1976 C65 single axle. It has a 366, 5&2, and airbrakes. I just bought a 1993 International 4900 tandem. Its a dt466 with a 15 speed. I hope to still use the little C65 frequently because I really enjoy that old truck but the tandem just makes things so much easier.

Hey Todd ,yeah on the trucks well I have the best of both worlds at work my company has all new western star 4900 heavy sec dump trucks which are also used for snowplowing . We have single axles, tandems , tri axles and here on the farm and my side business I run single axle trucks all old stuff. Older trucks are easier to work on affordable to buy but also they have there issues as many truck owners know. Be safe out there man.

Good job Todd .My Peterbilt is a 1986 and it is a money maker . I’ve owned 13 trucks some new most use .brand new trucks still brake and the payments don’t stop when they do . Old truck is easy to fix on ur own most of the time and when it’s down for repairs its still a tax write off .

Im gonna give you a transmission tip. Find out your top speed you run when you're coming out of low range to the high side. Then make sure you never depress the range selector back to the low side until you are at that speed or slower. Even and especially when you're just coasting to a stop. Its really really bad for the transmission to flip it to the low side and then slow down, even when you're not putting it in a gear.
@danmalloy69083 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of breakdowns caused by emissions issues. I'm not saying it's bad but probably a lot of bugs to work out still. New trucks are all tech...and with the older rigs you pretty well know what's what. Best regards Todd.

I’m not even in the business but I’d get a pre emissions truck over any emissions equipped truck...I’m the same with pickup trucks, I’ve got a 1999 7,3 powerstroke with no kind of emissions...and you can’t beat a manual trans

Are you waiting for decals for the side of the truck? I have a 2000 Sterling tandem axle truck. Bought it at an auction. I would recommend learning to work on your own truck. Owning a used truck brings breakdowns and maintenance that is needed. Being able to repair it yourself saves a ton of money. What do you charge to deliver material in your area?
@DigginLife213 жыл бұрын
Yep. It's hard to say since charge varies greatly by weight and location
