You should put grease on the splines. If not the splines will fret and fail. Or go they get oil to them?
@Digginok5 жыл бұрын
Probably wouldn't hurt to grease them, they are dry.

The coupling there seems to have been made using sintered (powdered) metal and likely not heat treated, I wonder if it was designed to be the failure point in the front drive train? What else is there that would break/fail first? It's probably not worth the time to machine a replacement piece out of solid steel and then heat treat it. Any thoughts?
@Digginok5 жыл бұрын
I think it could be like a safety fuse, would not want to make something else break. The couplers are around $25.

I welded the stump jumper back on the shaft of an old mower. It was so worn out and the guy wanted the cheapest thing I could do!

Frank, Thanks very much. My l2500DT had no 4 wheel drive today when I went to pull some cut up trees. I had no clue why it would quit. My first thought was that it would probably have to go to the dealers and I would be looking at big bucks. I'll ck it out. Again. You give some hope.

That’s what I used to do when I went to visit the in-laws... fix stuff. I enjoyed the visits and we never crossed swords. That’s a simple fix when you know how it works. Thanks Frank.

I guess nothing lasts forever. For some reason I hadn't thought Kubotas would be something you were real familiar with. Not sure why.
@Digginok5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s a fairly cheap fix, $50 for both couplers. My father in law bought his first kubota around 2001 I think.
@michaelcarney46022 жыл бұрын
Where did you get the coupling? Cant find it anywhere mine is 16 spline

well I went to the Kubota dealership.

how many hours are on your tractor??, im looking at buying one which is a 2012 year build, same model. It has 1800 hours on it and the dealer says the 4wd does not work

I think it’s about the same as 16-1700

@@Digginok I went and views the tractor yesterday the drive shaft was missing, the spline output shaft from the transfer case was missing. They are trying to tell me I need to split the case to reinstall the drive shaft to the front, from the video you showed, both splines are visible
@oldfarmer47005 жыл бұрын
I got two little BX kubotas, made a little different than that one but the front drive shafts and the rear drive shafts are the weak points. Otherwise their pretty good machines.
@Digginok5 жыл бұрын
It's a cheap easy fix though.

One of those times when you need to have at least three or four hands huh Frank ! 😊 If that seems to happen often, I would say it's a flaw ! Surely there's a better way they could have done that ! Thanks for sharing and take. 👍

Yes always need another hand, the repair is a cheap easy fix, so it's not a deal breaker in my book.

Hi what are the symptoms of this part being worn out besides the wheels not being driven?
@Digginok3 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell you won’t have front wheel drive is the biggest symptom. Not sure what other symptoms would be

I don’t know on that model, some have to remove the bearing carrier plate. You should probably try to find a service manual. Sorry

@@Digginok I got her out. Been a min since I stared at something that long feelin like a dummy. Boots an spiders. A shifter must of rattled their teeth hard on that hit. If I tie a string on both ends I could shoot an arrow with that bent shaft

Thanks. I haven't seen that issue on a L3240. Yet! But a spindle tower, yes.

I’d say it will happen eventually, the good news is it’s a cheap and easy fix. Drive couplers were around 25$ each.

Yep, works pretty well, $50 for both couplers and a fairly easy fix.
