I bought this Kubota 4wd diesel tractor a few months ago as a non runner, last time the owner tried to start it, the engine locked up. Turns out he had left it out in the rain without a cover over the exhaust, water entered the engine and it hydro-locked when he turned it over. Lets fix it.

To add to your list of tricks: if you put the three point lever in the "lift" position, put a screw diver through the hole in the PTO shaft, and move it back and forth, it will lift the three point manually. I've had to do that a couple of times to move a dead tractor.

If the pump is tight enough this works, I've had 3pt not lifting manually with old pumps in need of overhaul. So if you keep driving with diminished hydraulic pressure, you have yourself to thank later on when a tractor get as bad as the ones Marty usually picks up i.e non-running engine but you desperately have to move the tractor and you've got nothing to lift/tow/facilitate it's moving from that position. Another factor to consider is you'll likewise struggle with heavy implements in place as the pump just isn't going fast enough to keep up enough working pressure.

there is no reason why that exhaust outlet doesn’t point down like modern tractors do. Or, put on a flapper cap on an upward pointing exhaust outlet. Don’t need a brain, rocket, surgery or science to figure that out. 😊

Looks like a B-70. I resurrected one from someone's scrap pile years ago. Had been used by a landscaping business and run into the ground. Did not take much to bring it back and I used it for several years. Tough little tractor that always hit 'way above it's weight. Lost it in divorce and I have often wished (strongly) I had it back. Congrats Marty!

I have a tractor like this, without that handy looking front hydraulic blade. It’s a gem. I just need to keep the battery on trickle charge and it starts every time. My tractor is a b6100dt, 3speed, 4WD, 3speed rear PTO. Its motor is a 650cc diesel. It’s a handy little thing and economical. Don’t put that upper pipe on it as it’s not meant to be there, unless you put a flap cap on it to keep water and other things like wasps out. It will be worth cracking her in half, to check clutch, main shaft seals etc. I was lucky to get a shop manual with mine and I scrounged a parts guide too. I think you can still find them online.

My first though when you said it wouldn't turn over was Hydro Locked. I was responsible for several large generators in my working career. One was a 500 KW Diesel supplying a data center. During one of its regularly scheduled exercises it didn't turn over. there had been corrosion in one of the cylinder liners and consequently cooling water filled the cylinder. Being a critical device, I had to quickly arrange a backup. This was just after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast. I found an emergency Generator in Indiana, 700 miles away. They were able to get it there overnight. It was a 750 KW in a 40' trailer. My electricians were able to get it hooked up within hours. The generator rebuild took around a month. I had another that wasn't quite as critical hydro lock as well. It was a smaller in line 6 cylinder. The exhaust on it ran uderground to a well filled with rock to discharge any water that got in the well. Over time the well silted up and during a rainstorm water backed up through the exhaust and filled the engine.

I've had a B7100 like this for a few years, bought it off a bloke on the Banks Peninsula for the price of the Fieldmaster Sabre hanging off the back. Very similar front blade setup to yours, which was a NZ factory option with the backhoe kit. They like a really good glow but are easy to start even with a cooked battery due to the decompression knob on the dash. For a tiny 750cc 3 banger it works hard and you really have to try to get it to quit. One thing to look at would be the tyre diameters, those front turfs look pretty big in comparison to the rears, which could be contributing to the transfer case issues?

Worked on hundreds of forklifts with these engines. Great engines. Saw them run without oil or coolant without much trouble😂 My first boss had a tractor just like that, that they used in winter to collect 4 or 5 carts with reed for thatching. They drove over frozen lakes and such. That machine broke through the ice multiple times and when this happened they pulled it 50 meters or such under the ice to the shore. Pulled off the injectors , exhaust and air intake. Coupled on an extra battery and started it for a few minutes. Put everything back on and it was back on the ice doing its job 😂😂😂 only the frozen seat cushion whas quite annoying😂😂😂

Can't wait to see an episode of him tearing down the tranny and rear end. Later one of him changing the engines rear main seal to fix that oil leak. Or maybe it's the oil pan leaking. They may have not known about the water ingestion risk. They may have though they covered it, but forgotten. My grandfather's tractor shed roof started leaking once, magically dripped precisely down the exhaust. Some people have very little respect for tractors. I was at a farm once, they had a fairly late model full cab tractor sitting there at 3000+rpm to run an irrigation pump. Ran for hours like that. A second hand stationary pump would have done a better job and been a lot cheaper to fix down the track, but that was the cheapest solution at the time.
