Digi 003 with protools in 2022?

I use the Digi 003 console as my mixer to track from my Synth #accessvirus and my #mpc1000. I was asked why I use this old equipment hope I was able to answer the question to satisfaction. Dont forget to leave me a thugs up and a subscribe if you like what you see.

Just got back into making music after 10yrs and got my Digi003 rack out the attic. About to put a pcie firewire card on the pc so i can hook it up. Glad to see other people still using the old stuff

Im old now (42). I make well into the 6 figures, and have a amazing setup nowadays. Real 1073's, 1176's, La2a's, SSL stuff and a Cl1b. Lots of other crazy stuff i never thought i would own. When i tell you i find myself pulling up my old 1999 sessions and beats in awe. I sometimes miss my old setup. I find myself using plugins to make things sound like my old Avid Audoimedia card (2 channel). Dont sleep on old gear. Just get the most powerfull mac/pc you can afford, and get tons of old cheap gear. My 9 year old has a $79 Behringer soundcard, and Id swear it sounds sweeter than my RME/UA converters sometimes. Just focus on making good music, the tech is a trap.

Nothing wrong with the older Digi gear at all. I still have the original Mbox that came with the first copy of Pro Tools LE.

What's wrong with it are the Drivers, at least on win10 or newer, yes there are some drivers but while they make the box work with win 10 or 11 they destabilise win10/11. Win7 though doesn't support lots of newer Plugins and Hardware I also want ro work with... I wonder if this is less an issue with the 003, when i bought my mbox I wS using a laptop so I had no choice but on a desktop firewire isn't an issue, it's an upgrade.

@@dannyfar7989 yes but I use the mbox on an old Sony Vaio laptop with an older version of windows and PT so it works fine. I just use it to record stuff and transfer to mix on another station. I'm told that there are ASIO drivers for it but never tried to use the mbox on a newer setup. I'm told it works on Apple OSX with Logic but older setups.

Also works fine with win7 and reaper basically any DAW, and Programm used it with, didn't imuse the mainboard audiodevice for anything. Adobe Premiere, Audition, Reason:it seems programm agnostic, the "only works with protools" is a myth.

It even works on win10/11 but the drivers are 3.Party and I don't like it when my audiointerface makes my sceensflicker/crash the system. The 003 has official win10 drivers, It's "cheap", I am thinking about buying one. Better an old but Gold one or a simpler smaller newer one for about the same money, I wonder what's better. I used the 003 when it was newer because lot's of people had it, I never encountered any issues with it. If you use a car you can even consider it portable, knew a guy who traveled with it regularly.

The Pre Amps on this gizmo are very, very good! Still very good by today’s standards the EQ is also very good! Quiet and if you can get the old version of Pro Tools running with it, then you have a very formidable box that can hold its own! Especially the automation if you get the right plugins that support it! 😊

I bought my Digi 003 on reverb a few years ago and I freaking love it! It still runs on Mac OS Mojave. There are hacks to get it running in OS versions beyond. I fully intend to keep it a while longer. it runs great with 2022.6.

I'm don't use my 003 with my mac .I should have clarified that. You can but you need adapters. Sell your 003 is my advise if you are using an upgraded Mac with Avid. Sorry I should have been more clear about that.

Not gonna happen on the, the firewire drivers were only for Intel macs and PCs, Apple M1/M2 ARM based CPUs will NEVER get drivers for the Digi 003. I bought the Console version recently to run PT11 and it's running pretty solid on a windows 10 PC & my old 2011 Macbook Pro too.

I've used the Digi 002 and 003 for years. But I've been told a million times other interfaces like Lynx and Apollo are far superior. So I bought the Lynx Aurora 16 original. But then I A/B tested both micing my drum kit with 10 channels. Both the same beat, mics, levels, directly in with no other units in between, completely raw in. I blind tested with friends and most of them said they liked Digi 003 without even knowing which was which. The Lynx just sound very slightly different. But not really any noticeable quality gain. Not only that, Lynx does not have a headphone jack, so I had to buy a completely separate headphone amp along with a Midi Interface as well cause the Midi is useless. Aaaaand I have to keep a rack space empty above and below because the thing runs hot as hell. If left on too long, it disconnects from the comp sometimes. The idea of having a "better" and more "transparent" interface is a scam imo. If anyone is looking to get an interface, trust me, the Digi 003R is great and only $200. It gets flack only because it was marketed for the average consumer trying to make music at home and not "engineers" and "professional studios".

I don't know but just wiggle back and forth should help. I did have that issue on my presonus digimax it always work. Turing it up and down quickly a few times.

Respect. Music is about the end product regardless of what it goes through. The old 4 tracks that were tossed are now expensive and hard to find since people are using them to record or bounce tracks to for that analog sound. Go figure.

Using Windows for this set up. Your computer will need a firewire port. Any computer repair store can install ut for you. Next you will need to download the 003 drivers if yiu google it you will find it.

You can have two versions of 0rtools on your computer I use 2021 and 8 for tracking work the 003.

You are going to need to get the driver just search the driver o google. Get the latest one. You may want to use an older version of pro tools or you can midi map it to ableton

I came across a Digi003 rack at the pawnshop today $40 couldn’t bet that I was thinking.. So I tried to connect it many of ways to my Clarett +8pr , I get a signal but no sound.. I was thinking about Deisy chaining it to my Pro 40 then connect the Pro 40 via Optical .. If you have any suggestions I’m open to hear from you.. Other then that I don’t want to waste it..

You have to set one to slave to the other . Set rhe digi to be the master

@@brucehathcockmusic ok so I set the Digi to master I do get a signal and I can hear once I place a track on ADAT, but it’s not running there my gear and there’s no inputs and outs for my slave interface.. I know it’s something I’m over looking..

Hey just relax The purpose of this video was not to explain what you are looking for. I was simply answering a question fro. Some one else. If you listened close I still have pro tools 8 and I use it to track my drums and synths with my outboard gear. Using a PC not mac. With a fire wire adapter. Upgrades are over rated is the point of the video I have the up grades but I still use my old stuff that's the point. If yiu don't have to upgrade don't. It's a never ending rip off. Please trust me. Wait till the bring something you really want.
