repaired two ipods with this fantastic video, howver an important omission is the fact that u need to start by pressing in the upper part of the screen and then clip in the bottom, did the inverse and it broke the screen in 2 in the very final step of the replacement... Anyways good luck to all u watching this!

Few things different with my sons iPod touch that i had to carefully figure out how to get round (probably a difference in the country specs as I'm in the UK) but all in all a great tutorial, got me home and dry P.S. 217 people clearly failed to follow your instructions lol

This is the best and most proper way to do this. It seems like a lot and like it can take a while. However, the more electronics repair experience you have, the less time it takes. If you're not exactly sure on what you're doing, take your time and be very careful. Anything not done properly can make the device completely unusable and unrepairable.

@WorldlySurvivor The copper is used to aid in cooling the iPod. The copper is used on either side of the battery. It is attached to the backplate underneath the battery, with a small "heat sink" (made of some poly material). On the top side of the battery, where you are working, it is used to simply help cool the battery. If you cut it, as shown in the video, you still retain the copper. You'll probably want to keep the copper and reuse it. Hope this helps, thanks for viewing

Attaching the LCD connector was by far the hardest part. I had to walk away and do something else for awhile it irritated me so much. Finally, after attaching it correctly and following the rest of the video I've completed the repair and it works perfectly. The only thing that I wish was a bit different is that the screen sticks out a bit more than what it used to. Unsure how to fix that, if I even can. I'm too afraid to open the whole iPod back up again to try. Thank-you for this tutorial.

Got to be fair and say that this is the most comprehensive screen replacement tutorial on youtube as it actually shows the reassembly as well as the disassembly. However if I break my ipod when following this guide I am sooooo suing you!!!! My main point of defence will be (as pointed out by MootPoon817) the ridiculously hypnotic porn music accompanying the instructions!

Good instruction. He did forget about the metal clip. Followed it carefully, got the gray screen as some have described. Pressed 'lock' + 'home key' + 'up volume', & icon screen came up! Took me about 4 hours, since I took it apart twice. Some of the screws are different lengths, so keep them in order.

Thank you for the kind words. As for your question, we have companies that come in and take our damaged parts for just that purpose, but no one here performs that. The screen replacement we sell and use is actually the same one that Apple uses. We get it from the same manufacturer as Apple, and the screen and lcd come as one molded component.

i had that experience before i took it to an i repair kiosk and they said that the person working there said that it the adhesive that keeps the screen connected to the ipod wasn't installed firmly enough. He also said that the screws ( you'll see at 3:40 there are screws along each side inside of the iPod) weren't screwed in all the way and that had effected it as well.

Busted my Ipod Touch 4th gen screen... Bought a new screen from DigiExpress... Followed the video, did the repair... IT WORKS! Thanks DigiExpress!! But... this is not for the faint-of-heart -- it takes some serious dexterity, lots of patience, and a verrry gentle touch. Did need that hard reset, would be nice if that was in the video. Only bad thing -- that drumbeat drone on the video is ANNOYING !!! Oh well it works so I'm happy!

If it's turning on and shutting right back off, make sure you didn't damage any other cables or the logic board itself. Sometimes with white screens like you're describing, a hard reboot is all that is needed to make it work. That is done by holding the home and power button down together until the device powers off and continue holding until the apple logo appears. Also, verify that all of your connections are tight. If those don't work, we can take a look at it for a $25 fee.

@niraj007pant Between 11:00 and 11:30 the technician shows the metal shield that you must screw into place first. Then you apply your double sided adhesive strips to that same metal shield as well as the edges and corners. Peel back the remaining paper to expose the adhesive. There is no snapping for this model, the adhesive is the only thing holding the screen to the device. The back plate does have a plastic surround, but that surround is not removed or replaced when installing a screen.

@natnalexfan11 The microphone is attached directly to the logic board itself. There are no leads for wires, it is surface mount solder that holds it in place. We currently do not stock the part, but the microphone is located on the "underside" of the logic board near the connection port for the front facing camera.

Yes, you are correct. Most of the 'screens' on ebay are just the digitizer which are not the correct replacement part for your iPod. The iPod Touch 4th gen requires a complete screen assembly (LCD + digitizer) , unfortunately people order these 'dummy' pieces of glass and can't get their money back. The complete assembly is $49.99 because it includes the glass digitizer and the 'retina' LCD screen, the parts on ebay are mostly defective or incorrect replacements.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
Great question. The answer is yes, the screens are the same and fit the same, the only difference is color. And the great thing with the iPod Touch 4 is we actually carry a line of alternate color screens that work the same way. The colors are listed on our website under the iPod Touch 4 parts section. Our website is in the video. The color screens cost the same as the standard white and black, $49.99. If interested, we can also do the install for an additional $25 and have it back in a week.

The thin cable near the volume buttons is the Power / Volume flex cable. When removing the metal mid-plate you do need to take care. The plastic tool should be inserted above the cable, but below the metal mid-plate. Then rock it back and forth gently, this will separate the metal plate from the cable. Once separated you will then see the adhesive strips on the logic board that were keeping the metal plate held down. Also, the adhesive holding the metal plate to he loudspeaker is very tough.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@MACs4GoodPeople The screen assembly (includes as one unit, the glass, digitizer and LCD) can be removed from the backplate withouth scratching the backplate. Inside the iPod Touch 4th gen, there is a mid-frame made of plastic that lines the inside of the backplate. This mid-frame is not removable from the backplate, however it sits about 2 mm above the backplate. So if you have a device with a defective internal part, we can replace the internal part without damage to the backplate.

@anthonyhigdon422 the iPod Touch 4th generation has a screen assembly that contains the Glass, Digitizer and LCD. The glass is a just a heavy duty surface, the digitizer is what translate the location of touch and the LCD produces the images. The screen assembly contains these parts as one unit.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
You also need a pry tool. Something very thin, yet strong to seperate the screen from the device. Some of our technicians use a putty knife. Others actually use a specific tool for this repair. But you have to be very delicate with it so you don't damage anything internally. Also, with a blow dryer, you're going to need to heat the edges a little longer than what you would with a heat gun, just because it doesn't produce as much heat.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
It's possible that there is something under there, a small piece of glass or old tape or something. It's also possible that the screen could be a little warped and lifting up in the corner. No matter where you get the parts, some screens may end up like that. The other option could be to try a stronger adhesive or tape in that corner to hold it down.
@DigiExpress

@edming27 That image is a stock image, we will update that image as soon as possible. Thank you for pointing that out. The screens we sell in the white color will look just like your original screen. There will be no black dot in the upper corner.

@qzthe1 I suggest checking the connections again, ensuring that all the ribbon cables are seated properly. Generally the ribbon cable is connected on the top "half" but not on the bottom. The ribbon cable connection is a rectangle and so the half's statement above means for the upper and lower portion of that ribbon cable connection. If you had purchased the screen from us, call us and we will help you. If you purchased the screen elsewhere, consult the supplier for a return policy.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@TheJonasN The tape is a doulbe-sided pre-cut tape. You peel it from the sheet and put it on the device, then peel the other side to expose the adhesive. before you apply the double-sided adhesive you will need to "clean" the frame. removing any and all bits of glass and original glue. The glue that is used by the manufacturer needs to be removed completely before you can begin applying the pre-cut double sided adhesive. I hope this has helped, please feel free to ask any questions here.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@eag402home You'll have to re check your ribbon cable connections for the display assembly. You may have not connected the ends to each other, or loosely connected. It is difficult to re attach the ribbon cables on this unit but you may find this to resolve the issue. When you are checking the connections, inspect the copper colored pieces as well as the logic board itself. The port to which the display assembly connectes may have a gold pin removed or bent. There is no fix for bent pins.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@TristanRHeitkemper the screw driver is just a recommendation, if you would like to use a straight blade then you could do that as well. Even a plastic spudger would work, if it is brand new. There have been over 70,000 people who have used our service to repair any Apple iDevice, of which the iPod Touch 4th generation screen repair is our most popular repair. Probably because of the way the iPod Touch 4th gen is designed, seems to be a bit more fragile than the previous generations.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
As long as the screen didn't get damaged, then it would most likely be fixable. And that's where I recommend starting. Just start the process of the installation over again and make sure the connection is tight. Test the screen to make sure it works after it's reconnected and before you tape it down.
@DigiExpress

@Tablo0213 To maintain a working display you do need to replace the part with a screen assembly (Digitizer and LCD). If you would attempt to seperate the original parts, or replacement parts; you would damage one of the two if not both. The LCD is attached to the Digitizer using an adhesive that will not separate cleanly. Replacing the screen assembly (LCD and Digitizer) is the only way to repair it properly.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@waldonoobs The ribbon cable for the volume and power button can sometimes be "stuck" to the metal mid-plate. If this happens you just need to take great care when removing the mid-plate. Even shooting it with a heat gun (1500 watt @ 800 deg F) for about 2 seconds at a time should help greatly. However, do not use more than 2 seconds of direct heat at a time. The video is a basic repair that is more commonly what happens, there will be certain damage that creates new issue. Hope it helps
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
Now as long as you would cover the screen with a cloth or towel and have the iron set to NO STEAM, then it should work. However, with the amount of direct heat you are applying to the device; you may cause irreparable damage. The heat gun method allows much more control in application of the heat across the screen. Our guns are set to 940 degrees Fahrenheit for the removal of Touch 4 screens and iPad 2/3 screens.

@ntsuabvaj1 I think you may be mistaken. The Apple warranty does not cover physical damage. If your iPod has a manufacturing defect, then they may replace it within the warranty period, but any physical or water damage voids the warranty.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
Check that the digitizer cable is plugged in the whole way (it's hard to get eyes on that connection so maybe use a mag glass). Also check the cable itself for any nicks or tears. The ghosting can be caused by not cleaning the frame enough or having some glass dust inside the iPod. Hit it with some canned air and try to use a mask so you don't agitate your lungs (glass dust and all). The metal mid-plate may be riding too far toward the top of the device, but it's difficult to say specifically
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@MrSlamhappy That is your loudspeaker. The blue wire is neg and the red wire is pos. If you replace the loudspeaker, you should be fine. The adhesive Apple uses when manufacturing the devices seems to be getting "stronger". We sell the loudspeaker for $19.99 (currently) and can install it for you for $25.00, though generally you just need to remove the rest of the logic board and battery; then you can get access to the area that needs to be soldered.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@cerealandtoast make sure your metal shield (mid-plate) is not off center. There is a lip near the LCD port that could stop you from seating the cable, a little push with a spudger (plastic tool) should do it for you.
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 13 жыл бұрын
@250wanter the white screen can be a couple of things, the first is that the screen is installed incorrectly. Ensure the connections are made properly from the display to the logic board as well as the "copper" tape being complete (this is the ground for certain parts). You can try doing a hard reset then connecting to the USB of a computer, you may see a message to restore the device; which should fix the issue.

If you do have a Touch 4, the mid-frame is part of the back case. If the mid frame came apart and you can't get it back in, then your back plate is distorted and damaged. If it's an earlier version of the touch, make sure your side rails are in the proper location and not missing.

@tonystewartchamp The black and red colored wires lead to the loudspeaker. The ends of the wires get soldered into 2 holes on the logic board. If you damaged these wires you would need to replace the loudspeaker, which we have listed on our website. It is not terribly difficult to solder the wires into place as they are through the board and not surface mount.
@DigiExpress

So it has power, which means that it has something to do with the LCD screen. It's one of two things. Either the screen you bought may not be good, and was defective, or during the install, there was damage done to the main board. If it's the main board, it's something that we don't fix because the repair exceeds the cost of the device. One thing to try is a hard reset.Hold the power button and home button down for about 30 seconds when the iPods on. If it kicks on, it worked, if not, see above

@chane26 that is a tough one, we would need to see the damage first hand to diagnose whether or not it can be repaired properly. The Diagnosis / Repair service would be the one you are looking for. With water or liquid damage it is hard to guarantee that it is able to be repaired, but we would have our technicians diagnose the device and email you the results.

The best thing to do is go in and recheck your connections. For the slide function to not work, the connection may not be tight. If the connection is tight, try a hard reset by holding the home button and the power button together until the device powers off and the apple logo appears. If there's still an issue, there's a chance that the part may be defective.

Hi good afternoon friend, I would like to know about some of the double-sided adhesive .. how it works? because you remove them and close the ipod without? I could not hear because I have hearing problem and not clear to me .. You put on the adhesive and remove glue residue from getting well? Or do you just removed because it was a demo video?
@DigiExpress
@DigiExpress 12 жыл бұрын
Sometimes that does the trick. There's only two other things it could be. 1) there's a loose connection, or 2) the device is rejecting the screen. That's one of the reasons we only use parts purchased through us. We work with a direct manufacturer of parts, and they are all OEM quality. This allows us to warranty both the parts and the repair. The eBay parts out there can definitely save money, but they aren't always guaranteed to work.

@West80480 That is basically a device that is not responding, nor being recognized by a computer; those are very difficult to Diagnose without actually having the device in hand. If you have a cracked screen, you may have also damaged the LCD screen which would account for no images. Though since it does not connect to the computer, I just cannot be certain. You would need to Diagnose the device to properly answer your question. More information about our services is available on our website.

@jimboko33 to replace only the Glass screen you will loose the retina display clarity as well as in order to line up both parts you would need to be 100% precise (like a machine). In removing the LCD from the Digitizer, you would have to damage either the LCD or the Digitizer. It is not a reliable way to repair the Touch 4 (or the iPhone 4, Nano 6th), because of the damage one causes in order to separate the LCD from the Digitizer. @deadfred821 you cannot replace only the glass on this model. The same is true for the iPhone 1st and 4th and the iPod Nano 6th generation. If you use too much heat you will seperate the glass from the LCD screen, if that happens you cannot reuse that screen assembly. If you try to, you will find that lining up the digitizer film with the LCD is impossible and the on-screen keyboard will not react properly to your key-press.

@Polopolo1294 The Apple Care Warranty does not cover physical damage to the devices, only the Manufacturer's defects up to 2 years. If you damage the screen, your options through Apple are to purchase a refurbished model at a cost of $150.00 dollars or to take 10% off the cost of a new iPod Touch. If you pay the additional money for an Apple Care warranty and you physically damage the iPod, they will give you those two options. They will not replace it for free, nor fix it for free.

@gordoya12 To fix any dents in the backplate you are going to have to disassemble the device and literally work the metal back in place. You can use a clamp with rags over the metal, so you don't scratch it, to secure the backplate while you work. Use needle noise pliers if possible. Use no heating tools, only "elbow-grease", and it is a difficult task but after time you should be able to work any dent or dings out from the backplate. Our technicians can do this most of the time.

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not repair the charging port or logic board on the iPod Touch. The charge port is part of the logic board, and the repair is extremely difficult and also for us to get the part, it is very expensive compared to the cost of the device. We don't perform this repair because in most cases, the repair itself is more costly than purchasing a new device. We wish you the best of luck in getting your issue resolved.

There is no mention of the plastic strip around the outside of the screen between the metal case and the glass. Stay on the inside of the plastic with your tool but be careful not to go in between the glass and the LCD as they are sandwiched together. Great video though. Keep up the good work.

Replacing the back plate is the best option, but very time consuming and difficult. You can try to cut the plastic frame with a razor blade or use pliers to pull the bends out. Or a combination of both. Anyone you know that works with metal may have different tools, but generally a pair of smooth pliers will get the job done.

If it's working when you press down in the upper right corner, it sounds like there is a connection issue with the LCD, not the touch screen. The cable and connection for the LCD is in the top right. Double check the connection and also verify that there is absolutely no glass in or around that connection. A small piece of glass could be causing it to not fully connect, and that's why it turns on when you push it. Also try hard reset. Hold power and home button until you see the Apple logo.

@ Scott Stevens I was able to fix the white screen by hooking everything back up and then connecting the iPod to my computer, it may take a few minutes for it to connect though, if that doesn't work I'd also try doing a hard reset (hold the home and lock button down simultaneously for 10 seconds) and after trying that connect again to pc. Good luck!

@12344richard If there screen is broken already, then why not cut the ribbon cable? It makes plenty of room available for you to work in. You don't have to cut it if you don't want to. Just work around the space restriction until you can remove the ribbon cable from the display assembly to the logic board.

@rembertervin247 You would need to first remove the screw at the top next to the camera, then remove the screw for the wi-fi ribbon cable. Finally you will need to detach the ribbon cable for the front facing camera. Once done, there is about 2 more inches of room that opens up so you can get eyes on the connection. but you must be very careful, as you will be bending the logic board and it very well may break if bent too much. Plus to reattach the camera cable is difficult

The copper is for heat, so the iPod does not overheat. The copper needs to be there just not completely connected. The most difficult part would be attaching the ribbon cable for the digitizer portion of the screen assembly to the logic board. In doing this it is difficult to see the connection and it will take some time to get the ribbon cable attached. Also, just be very careful when dealing with the camera's as those cameras have delicate ribbon cables that do not like to be bent a lot.

@qzthe1 That is a tricky one, you may have an obstruction around the backplate. There maybe a single piece of broken glass that is causing the screen not to sit properly and thus the connection from the LCD screen to the port on the logic board is not attached. Otherwise if you have purchased the part from us we do offer an installation service for $25.00. It is difficult to trouble shoot an issue like this via KZbin.

@MegaEpicMovies We do not yet repair computers, only the iPod, iPad and iPhone. They are themselves small computers obviously, but we focus on those devices. We can hopefully expand to a full line of Apple mobile products soon.

You're welcome. Our technicians will look at it and let you know what is wrong and hopefully it is just the battery.

@MrMonokuroboo123 check the wi-fi ribbon cable for placement. ensure there is as little adhesive as possible on it, just enough to keep it in place. As for the issue with your camera, usually doing a restore through iTunes restores the camera functionality. If it does not restore the camera functions, you probably have an issue with the CMOS chip for the camera. Since the chip is on the logic board, it is not repairable. Try the restore and you should be fine, though backup your data first.

Chris is correct. The touch controls are registered by the digitizer, which is part of the front screen. We sell those on our website. Here is the link: digiexpress.us/Replacement-Screen-Assembly-for-the-iPod-Touch-4G-_p_248.html

Was the old screen just broken, or did it go black and that caused you to change out the screen? If it was a cracked screen and working before, then it sounds like the new one, and even the old one, when you put it in, it could either be a bad connection, or the board may have been damaged.

without adhesive won't the new glass come off? or do replacements have a different way of staying on?
