As I have just clarified with James, the thing I like about this simple solution (as opposed to the other ways I was looking at) is that it can be added retrospectively. First get your head around getting things working on (in my case) DR5000 and if you choose iTrain. When it is all running you can decide were you would like to add your switch control and then build the mimic and connect the S88 to the DR5000. Brilliant Brian Essex Thameside in N

Hi slightly off topic I have a dr5000 control with the dr4088 my question is does the live from the 5000 go to the com on the 4088 and the 16 sensor wires that go to the blocks (the rail that is isolated ) is it a red Cable Live?? and the rail that is not broken into sections having a Black wire which goes back via the negative bus to the dr 5000

Awesome! Why has no one else explained about that S88 assignment ability? After you told me I found it in section 7.1 of the DR5000 manual, but since they left it in German or Dutch, it wasn’t real obvious what it did :/ Question: with the 4088Opto, can I utilise a voltage input as the switched input? Ie, 12v dc on one input for green, other input for red? I think this is possible, but only with opto, not GND.

If you use the OPTO you don’t need to add power that’s way I did it this way uses the track current.

Very interesting. One of the downsides of iTrain has been the lack of a 'real' mimic panel. How many turnouts for each DR4088?

This is only one solution to have this in iTrain or Train Control there are many others for other systems and they have been around for a very long time.

The GND is volt free detector and the OPTO is Low voltage.

Hi James, great video, I have one 4088 on LN and one linked via S88 from the one on LN. Can I still do this or do they have to be direct to the S88 on dr5000 ?

Hello thanks for the question. You can not do it through the LN version no. You would need to disconnect it and put it to the S88 port on the DR5000

@@DCCtrainautomation thanks James. As my s88 are free on the dr5000 I may invest in one of the opto versions just for this job of control mimics. I take it you still have to give it the 1st address and the others are sequential? Nice if they could be independently given the address. My layout is a learning layout so a rejig of the address wouldn't be to difficult. Keep up the good work😁

Hello It has to be the S88 version of the 4088 and then either the GND version or the OPTO one. It is in the instructions.

Any ideas?

Very Interesting as you know i'm just in the process of converting my Layout to run with Digikeijs and iTrains how do i solve the problem of a train running into a turnout set against it and creating a short as at the moment i have to use the hand of God to move the loco back off the point and reset the DR5000.I then move the point or can i still use my old mimic panel to set the point or how do i set Itrains to stop the loco or move point automatically to favour the loco Keep up the good work

Hello Clive the answer is no. The dr4018 spec it not designed for peco or seep solenoids.

@@yarisman2 Been there. Recommend that you don't even try it! I damaged one of my DR4018s by persisting with solenoids. MTB MP1s + DR4018s have been great for me.
