Good stuff! Another option for things like resistors is to group them by decade: e.g. 4.7R, 47R, 4.7K, 47K, 470K, 4.7Meg all go into one group or container. As far as lids/no lids, depends on your environment. In my woodshop, EVERYTHING gets a lid, and in fact, I stay away from open shelves at all, because it's just dust collection. Everything goes into a drawer or cabinet. Also, lids on containers means I can stack the containers on top of each other, MR SMITHSONIAN!! lol

The available Binner 64-bin parts organizer that lights up the bin you're looking for is pretty neat.

Lids. Keeps the dust out, along with the pet hairs, anything you might spray, and so on. And, can I borrow Dave for my workshop?

Lid or no lid depends on how messy projects in the area are. With how close the shelves are, I lean to no lid.

Lids on to keep dust and dirt out.

I think you're making the right choice keeping lids on bins, because you have dedicated shelves and you're not stacking them on top of each other. In a home shop a thin film of grime will eventually settle on everything you're not continually using, which will be most of your stuff. You won't notice it forming over decades, but once it's there it's there forever. Once you start stacking things on top of the lids, you're doomed. Never buy multi-bin organizers that open on top for that reason, as you'll lose all available volume above them.

I agree. Had work done in basement, insulation particles floating around. Got into everything

Omg, this is exactly the problem I have lol the biggest problem I have is when I’m in a flow state I tend to leave my tools around the garage workshop and office workspace (and often throughout the house if I’m being honest lol) I really want to design and make a much more compact AirTag type things that can be attached onto my stuff, it’s gonna need a buzzer as well 🤔 maybe that will be the next shoebox of shame on my crowded shelves lmaooo 😅 Also lids def on if you are in a dusty environment or have cats that might wander into your workspace lol trust me on the latter 😂

His preorganisation would be a total step up for me. I have cardboard boxes full of mixed crap. I can never find anything. Sadly, I know myself and will probably be this way the rest of my life. 😔

I’m in the lids on camp, dust seems to get everywhere in my garage workshop, I also like to have a “project bin” handy where I’ll consolidate tools I need for a specific project so they don’t get lost and are easy to find

I keep lids on for dust + my bins are stackable, more space efficient - however - cost is having to pull a few bins down and remove the lid. Takes more time but better use of space

Can you recommend an AI image ID service that is good for getting detailed descriptions of exotic components. How about quick and dirty AI part counts using a similar service?

No lids. The way they are arranged they act mostly like drawers, which also dont have lids.
