The camera angles, the foreshadowing, anyone who is familiar with where the human mind goes when depression is involved, would understand and quickly notice the darkness in the second half of the season, starting at episode 34. Everything from the colors to even the grainy sky, in certain points, all of these elude to how someone from a depressed Mindset can view the world. The first half of the season was good but it was the second half that caught my attention as a child especially since in that second half I started seeing things that I identified in real life but I couldn’t quite put my finger on. It was sometime after the season had aired that I realized that I was seeing Such signs within my own mother. My God things got really dark towards the end of season three and I still remember Jerry pudding, the sock puppet to her own throat. And my mother did not die that way, the choices my mother made that led to her death were no different. I still look at the second half of season three and my mother’s life and I know this so many parallels it’s not even funny. Like I remember Takato talking to Jerry on the train and you see from an outside window how they are separated by the seats, but the separation by the seats is one of those very well done hidden messages that they are side-by-side and yet they are worlds apart. And I remember that so well because I would sit next to my mother, and I would realize that she was worlds apart from me, even though I, her little kid was sitting right next to her. We might as well have been on different sides of the planet. And then, when we see Jerry reading the ingredients, that’s yet another hidden message, depicting depression about how we look at people suffering from depression, and we see things that aren’t really there. We might see positive emotions that don’t actually exist because on the inside that persons in a whole different place. And that’s what we see with Jerry. On the outside she appears to just be a confused and lost little girl, but on the inside, she is isolating herself and blaming herself for everything. There are so many other scenes like that that are so well thought out that you would think this was directed by James Cameron. One of the scenes I really like is where the doctor tells Jerry that a part of her mother will always be with her and Jerry who, at the time is supposed to be very little, like probably five or six, just asks where? Such a powerful scene because it shows just how disconnected adults are from the mind of a child. A child doesn’t understand the philosophy of spirit and keeping something in your heart. But such a scene can easily be overlooked by the scene that comes after where Jerry is running through the hallways, and the doctors are monstrously, huge, towering above her in the dark and gloomy hallway. But when you look back, you realize the scene just before where she asks the doctor where, that is the same that depicts perfectly how different the world of children is from adults to the point that we don’t even realize as adults, when we are putting children in a very bad mental situation. And we may be laying the seeds of trouble without even realizing it just by the words we say. Or the way that the camera would suddenly zoom in on Jerry’s face when Tecado and the kids are walking down the street. And her face is so emotionless, and the way the cameras zoomed in it didn’t even give you a chance to emotionally adjust to Jerry being there. it just assumes into this dead human body language. And so many little scenes like that are what separate this show for me not just from all other Digimon seasons, but all other shows. It’s a show that’s meant to be for kids but the way it depicts depression is incredibly powerful , and worthy of being considered a true art piece instead of just the second half of a kids cartoon. Even the evolutions of the Digimon were done really well. You have Henry who is afraid of hurting people, and at one point you see he even raises his hand in anger against his little sister, eluding to perhaps Henry has hit her before , but then his Digimon evolves into a giant machine gun, wielding creature that has no self-control. Literally the living embodiment of Henry’s emotions. You have Rika, who is full of anger and aggression, and yet she hides who she is on the inside, which is fitting that her Digimon cannot evolve. And it’s only when Rika finds an accepts who she is on the inside that we see her Digimon evolves. Symbolizing her growth as a human being. And then we have our goggle boy, who is forced to grow up literally in front of our eyes. Very few shows whether for adults or kids Have done such a good job at showing a person growing up and learning to deal with their emotions. Our goggle boy goes through just that. He starts off as a silly little happy kid but then, as he grows, his emotions take a dark turn, and his Digimon evolves into this whole horrible destructive thing which is a living embodiment of the boys anger but then, as the boy grows, he starts to control and understand his own emotions, and instead, the living embodiment of his anger grows into adjust cause. There is so much subliminal storytelling in this series that isn’t in any of the other seasons. Season four for me was the biggest disgrace because season four had so many scenes that were about to go into such deep and dark storytelling, and then they suddenly cut it out as if they are afraid to go down in that direction. But season three decided to keep following where characters go even if it’s into a dark place and it made it so damn beautiful. I love season three and I still have it all downloaded in HD.

I didn't bring it up in the review, but I feel that Tamers could have been a good capping off of Digimon as a series. A sort of anthesis so the first two seasons. It's also why any sort of Tri style show of Tamers I feel might have trouble. How do you follow up this series. I know Konaka has his vision...but its....a thing.

A lot of foreshadowing, but an extremely good series nonetheless The director of Tamers also did Adventure 02, but the director fixed a ton of 02's problems in Tamers, if the Digidestined ever returned in Tamers, that would've been absolutely horrible.
@botluckproductions8 ай бұрын
Foreshadowing can be good, but difficult to pull off. Digimon I find has difficulty with foreshadowing, but its a case by case situation. I know he worked on one episode as a guest. But yeah going back to the Digidestined would have been a mistake.

Also, Guilmon's Saban VA (Steve Blum) makes it harder to watch because of how weird his Guilmon impression really is, some people like it and some people dislike it, it depends. For the ANIMAX Singapore English Dub, Guilmon's voiced by Chuck Powers, which is energetic and cute at it's finest, Chuck Powers is the opposite of Steve Blum, it's adorable and nice, same thing for the original Japanese dub, which Guilmon is voiced by Masako Nozawa (Nozawa's voice can feel a bit tiresome at times, considering that she finished Dragon Ball GT and she needed a break for a while). I watched all three Tamers dubs, with the Japanese and Singapore dubs being my favorites, while the Saban dub is a mixed bag.

Here's an interesting fact about Alice, Dobermon and Ryo. Alice was included because of a design contest and Konaka needed a human partner for the digimon so she was added in, he also thinks that she might be a ghost. Ryo at the time of the series his last game did not come out until when Tamers was airing so there was very little that Konaka could do with him. His relationship with Rika is because of the fact that their jp va were into each other.

Good review, I like all the jokes and memes you put in even if they were a little crude. Also, I should probably point out an oversight you made at some point. During the final episodes of the D-Reaper arc, it wasn't just an American scientist they were speaking to over the video call they did while the Tamers and their Digimon were in combat but was actually an old colleague of the Monster Makers who was assigned to a global task force, not just the US Military, meaning that the United Nations was probably getting involved since the D-Reaper was appearing in other cities across the human world and that the B2 Bombers were probably on loan to the Japanese Government from the task force to use during the battle. Still, everything else in the video is good.
@botluckproductions Жыл бұрын
Hopefully, i can grow, so the jokes aren't as crude. This I was not aware. I remember the two groups had familiarity with one another, but not to that extent. Given Konaka was big on commentary, the B2s could have been his way to bring up other "Black Projects" that exist.

Guilmon / Girumon has the best character development in Tamers In the start of the series, he doesn't really know who Takato is, feeling childish at times during the first few episodes, but in Episode 8 when Guilmon digivolves to Growlmon and attacks another giant Digimon at night, in Episode 9, he starts feeling a little scared/shaken, since he didn't want Takato to feel scared or worried, Ruki (Rika) ignores Takato and Jianlian Lee (Henry), since she knows that Growlmon can't return to his rookie form (Guilmon), but this is resolved later on from both Guilmon & Takato's sadness, this is important by Episode 13, Takato and Guilmon have a talk with each other, Guilmon wants Takato to feel alright when he digivolves so he wouldn't feel scared, even if they're just one of the same, and everything is alright. Guilmon and Takato are both one of another, as early as Episode 9 and Episode 13, Guilmon knows how much he feels for Takato and he doesn't want to make him feel worried or scared. In the later episodes, Guilmon Dark Digivolving only hurts Takato and Juri (Jeri), Takato pushed Guilmon WAY TOO FAR, while Guilmon does digivolve back, this leads to Takato changing his ways and actually helps Guilmon, he doesn't want to push Guilmon too hard when he digivolves, this leads to them biomerging into Gallantmon/Dukemon. Guilmon is harmed by his issues and problems, and he's problematic sometimes, hence the Digital Hazard symbol on his stomach, and why there are hazard symbols in the real world, BUT he isn't harmful at all from Takato and his friends, it's only Guilmon's emotions that makes him feel harmed, and Guilmon could change like Takato, Guilmon doesn't just love Takato but his friends and family.

Off Topic, but... How did nobody notice Guilmon in Episode 16 (The Camping Episode), well... Besides the bus driver and not even his teacher, who knows? Everyone seems to be okay with Terriermon and Culumon for some reason, but not Guilmon (besides Takato, Takato's friends & Jianlian Lee), very weird but I'll take it Takato and the gang know how to take risks and responsibility, it's no Battle of Adventurers but it's alright. (And some fun callbacks, In Episode 4, Guilmon does some handstands with Galgomon, In Episode 9, Growlmon does the same thing while Takato tries his best to revert Growlmon back into Guilmon, Even in Episode 16 with both Guilmon & Growlmon, that's a fun callback that only very few will remember since it's a consistent thing that happens in these early episodes. Also in Episode 9, Growlmon attacks the Wild One in the same way that Taichi and Hikari first met a Digimon, except Growlmon is Takato's tamer and Taichi/Hikari's Digimon isn't the same Digimon in the short film)

I always get flack for this, but for me this was my least favorite season, up until Hunters. I just didn't care for all the pseudo philosophy the world uses to justify the digital world, and I could never really get into any of the characters. Kenta and Kasu seemed like I could like them, but they got so little in terms of development it was no use. Henry I had high hopes for but to me he is like the third blandest character, right after Zenjirou and Cody. The overall problem with the main three characters, is that they start out purposefully flawed, and different degrees of unlikable. Which in itself is not a problem, but once they get development and these flaws go away, you realize just how little differentiates them. Also, Guilmon is definitely the writer's OC or something. Not only did he go unscathed by Renamon's attack, Growlmon is far stronger than the other champions, Dukemon somehow nodiff soloed Beelzemon who had absorbed the data of several other digimon, and the writers have confirmed that the Crimson Mode is as powerful as Imperialdramon, PALADIN MODE! Also I am secretly glad that Leomon died. Even as a child I kinda found it odd how a young girl was given a muscular half naked furry man as a partner. Like don't get me wrong, I am perfectly fine with shipping Jellymon and Kiyoshiro in Ghost Game, but that is because Kiyoshiro is at least 14.

I notice the pseudo philosophy in a lot of media from Japan. I don't know why they do that other than to sound intellectual. At least with something like MGS, it can be funny. Here it's because its Konaka's style. Which can be hit or miss. Character wise, wish he did more with Ryo Guilmon being an OC...eh, hard to say. From what I have read Impmon was more of Konaka's favorite...but I could be wrong on that. It's always interesting to see partners being different from expectations. But here not much.
