Sony HT S500RF 5.1 Sound Bar Home Theatre Review | Digit.in

If you are in the market to get a home theatre in a box for about 30 to 35k, there are a bunch of options to choose from. You have some from Yamaha, Onkyo, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Logitech and more. In the case of the Sony HT-S500RF it has a few things going for it. It is well built, has a plug and play formula, and for watching movies, TV shows and gaming will be a good addition to your flat screen TV. However, the lack of HDMI pass through is dearly missed and the fact that all the connection options are at the back of the sub, means that placement can get restrictive. Like us, you can invest in a really long HDMI cable to exploit positioning of the sub. The key thing to consider is the size of your room. If it is a bedroom or a small living room, then a home theatre can be an overkill. You can do good by getting a soundbar. However, if you have the space and are about to venture into the world of home theatres and don’t want to build a custom one, and are looking for an out of box solution as your first system, then yes, you can consider it.

Nice video. It will be really helpful if you can suggest me between Sony HT S700rf and IV300 and YAMAHA YHT 3072. I have samsung 4k tv. Hi to get the Dolby sound through dth we have only option is optical cable from setup box to sub woofer.. But the input option doesn't have optical, it has tv, analog , bt etc....then how can we get Dolby sound in dth hd channels ??? I know this video is a few years old but I'm wondering is it possible to get those speaker connectors for the back of the subwoofer some place? I bought a SONY HT- S20 which use those connections for the speakers but I want to use the speakers from a HT RT3 which are already wall mounted without the connectors on them for my rear speakers and use the rear speakers that came with the HT S20 for front right and left while using the soundbar as the center speaker. I searched eBay for those speaker connectors and found some that are similar but might not work. The reason why I got rid of the HT RT3 was the loud fan in the back of the subwoofer.

For the people who wants a loud surround speakers settings -go to menu option in your sony ht remote thn go for the option lvl(level) thn click enter s left and increease the level by pressing aero print buttons to upto 6 level thn you have a loud rear speakers and same for su right speakers

The rear speakers need to be behind you for a surround effect. Makes no sense for a front setup. If you don't want surround speakers consider getting a soundbar 2.1 setup. Should work well for you.

@@Digit I considered buying a 2.1 setup as well, from Sony too. I noticed the power output is less than half and I am keen on having a central speaker. If I place the speakers in front of me, I may not get a true surround sound experience, however I will get the superb power. Will placing the speakers in front of me be worse than a 2.1 setup? @@tycoonruler6455 it has tight bass, not much boomy effect like iv300, but to me the bass sometimes overpowering the voice , so i always on voice on mode while dolby digital plus codec, but with dts format it leave it on auto mode, while using bluetoth with sony music centre app on my iphone , it produces so much bass that i have to low the level from 12 to 6

And yes was about to purchase the sony ht s500rf last year right before lockdown but due to a delay of a day now am still confused between choices. I have s500rf,and z906 both,z906 attached to pc via optical and s500rf attached to tv via arc,if your priority is watching movies with dolby and dts surrounded audio then go for sony, if your priority is only music then go for z906, but if you have 30k budget, i think one should consider s500rf for after sales service and latest codec supports

@@harith27 the latest video format is HEVC with dolby atmos and 5.1 dolby digital plus, torrent downloads even streaming platforms are using same formats, but optical and coaxial cant support ddp means dolby digital plus format audio, its only supporta dolby digital which is dead now and all dts formats not supported on coaxial and optical, only go for hdmi arc enabeled tv and home theatre system, and please check dts compatability as dts is simply mind bogling, if stereo music is only priority then you can still go for z906, but its important keep update with latest formats

Sound is also loud and clear good for hall

Hello Nice video. You started out well but you still missed out on the back speaker placement issue. Aka wiring. Means if you place on back and you also mentioned about integrated wire. So. Can I cut them and put them. Means I do have my wiring done in the walls. So right now I have Philips 5.1 connected. And I have directly plugged the wall wires in the bass unit. And the wires come out from the back wall connect to the speaker. I hope you get it so can I cut the wire. 2. U also said about no arc pass thru. Anyways keep in mind I am thinking to buy ht r40. . So I will connect my tv arc to this sound bar arc. Works rite?. I have ps4 and cable TV directly connected to tv hdmi normal. Arc I will give to this sound bar. Works . What is the issue? No I do not have a home theatre or anything else to be connected to sound bar. As arc works rite. 3. Do you suggest any other product. In and under 20k 4. Main Q. U also mentioned left and right rear throwing sound of left and right in ps4 spider man gaming. My point is same. And the true point of me buying upgrade is. My Philips do not have audio in spdif or hdmi so. I am not getting true 5.1. If this is the case then can u test it rt40 also. Let me know. Or which product u suggest. Also. Hi I purchased HT S500 RF from local sony center ,after a sony center representative recommended to me , immediately after installing I felt it is mind-blowing ,best under 40000 category ,after connecting to my gaming console I played ghost of tsushima oh my god it's like wandering in tsushima island air blow past behind my ear ,one enemy thowed a bomb to right side of screen and suddenly explosion happened in right surround speaker ,what a heavenly experience.

@@Digit yes i watched. Audio review was kind of lacking there. You included most of the things it does not do, but did not include what is does good. I am planning to buy this for my tv. Please let me know if it is good for movies or music ? Is it good than rt3 considering its price ?

I have this sound bar . But I can't hear surround sound. Surround speakers sound is very low :(
