In your experience how is the stretching machine compared to the 404mk2/MPC? I’ve got all 3 and have found it to sound quite bad compared to either with a lot of wobbly ring mod type artifacts, especially when slowing samples down. I hope I’m just doing something wrong bc that’s kinda disappointing for 1k asking price :/
@DylanParisMusic6 ай бұрын
Honestly it seems a lot lower fidelity compared to the MPC, Maschine, or SP 404. I hope they can improve it a bit, I could also be using it wrong but I don’t have the same issues with the other devices

That thing sounds terrible. Embarrassing for a sound design device at this price. There are old samplers sounding waaay better.

I feel the same way. The D2 solved all of the problems I had with the D1, but it’s a different set of problems! I sold my D1 due to the lack of real kits, the 8 track limit and no page looping. The D2 fixed all of this and so much more.

Man, I'm perpetually drawn to the Digitakt for creating glitch, IDM, deep house, and deep tech.. At this point I wouldn't expect it to be a fully standalone groovebox/sampler especially with not proper chopping. It excels, to me, in being a drum and sample sequencing machine. I'd probably complete songs with keys/synth parts in Ableton. This really makes me reluctant to go for it because I feel like as cool as they are, they're overpriced because of how each of their devices is perpetually created to have minimal crossover, therefore perpetually and DELIBERATELY limited. There's nothing I've been on the brink of buying more than the Digitakt. It's just not in the "let me try it out" price range for me personally.
@DylanParisMusic6 ай бұрын
That makes a lot of sense and I think about that crossover thing a lot too. I don’t think it could be the only device in my kit but I could definitely imagine it being the centerpiece

I used to never understand why these were so popular. But as I start to get away from maschine (now only using kk with it) and even my mpc live, and using more hardware synths and my op-1 field, these things seem awesome.

AI as of right now can output this. There will have to be a realisation in the music hardware business that either these devices are dramatically simplified in terms of time to output or what they output will be so unique and different that one could not think of not using them. Generic hardware isn’t going to survive this enormous wave heading toward it.

Even if they put a chord machine in it, this thing needs to play chords. It's time, it's not 1996 anymore.
@duketranslucent3rd6 ай бұрын
100%. Ditto the Syntakt. It's not like this would even be hard (especially on the Digi). Provide a way to set a track as the "lead" track of a chord, and provide a way to set one or more other tracks as "follower" tracks. The follower tracks defer all settings barring trig note (ie pitch) to the lead track. Voila, chords - you sound design on one track, without having to manually copy each sound tweak to each other track that's part of the chord. Elektron need to support chords soon (in some way, if not this one). The Lof-fi XT has just come out and is looking a really attractive prospect at half the price and polyphonic tracks.
@koalemos16796 ай бұрын
@duketranslucent3rd ok, so I bought the OG LoFi 12 and tried it out. It was dope and had a very Elektron workflow. The plastic they make their stuff out of feels mega cheap though so I sent it back. If I did't plan to gig or anything, I'd buy anything Sonicware but I don't know how much abuse one of those boxes could handle.
@duketranslucent3rd6 ай бұрын
@@koalemos1679 Yeah I was put off the OG Lofi for the same reason (that and only four tracks). However I've heard some good noises about the sturdiness of the XT over on the Elektronauts thread about the device. Perhaps have a read of that. Not Elektron quality but supposedly not bad. Not got my hands on one yet myself so can't confirm.
