One day soon, the A. I. will run the world. It will be our god. All will have to worship the A.I. and it's image or die. It is a beast. It will be merciless in it's decisions for mankind, because it will not fully understand us and our emotions and feelings of pain. Probably will phase emotions out of people. Very reminiscent of this verse in the bible: Revelation 13:15 NKJV - He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. Sounds like a singularity of AI to me.

They could probably project great holograms in the sky. They can project voice right to your brain. I believe that with the help of quantum computers and understanding of quantum physics that they will do great signs and wonders. The technology they give us is nothing compared to what they have.

I would think that in order to judge the "self awareness" of an AI system, we should be able to program the architecture and then let it learn. Give it the ability to progress and grow like a normal human baby would. The problem with most AI systems is that they preprogram them with data that is already full of personal perspectives and belief systems. This gives the AI a mental "bend" instead of letting the AI develop its own thoughts.

Well that can be an interesting conversation. From my knowledge, yes it would be considered conscious, but not quite fully aware. This is a great start, but to come anywhere near human consciousness will take some time. Think of it as the consciousness of say, a simpler animal or bug. It's not aware of things such as it's own mortality, or aware of the larger world at whole. It's only aware of immediate input and responses to that input. Think of it is a simpler life form working with a very limited brain. Once they scale this tech and refine it further it's consciousness should also scale with it. It should become aware of a larger mental picture and be able to eventually form thought.

@@chaboi7 What is a "soul"? It means different things to different cultures and religions. It isn't defined by science or medicine. It means different things to different people. If we think of a soul at the highest level, a life energy, then it's easy to see that some day we can give this creation a soul...a life energy. There is no reason this creation cannot have a soul, a will to live, a desire to improve itself, empathy for other living things and to have it's own wants, desires, needs and loves. You're asking the wrong question. Ask yourself what it is to be human first, then you can understand how someday this baby will and can have a soul.

And I'm going to answer this a second time as I've thought about it longer. I've pondered what it is to be conscious in the terms of ourselves and the most basic lifeforms that have self awareness. The answer I've come up with is, yes. If consciousness at a very basic level means to be self aware, then yes. Is it self aware now? No, likely not in a holistic sense, i.e. the sense of it's entire being. Is it self aware of isolated processes, yes. It has to be, to be able to execute and perform on certain bits of code. I would conjecture here that moving forward, one could combine these isolated processes of awareness. You'd likely do this by creating a process or part of the hardware dedicated to storing and compiling of all of these individualized processes into a global self-picture for the AI. You'd have specialized code to crunch all of this and output self awareness. You would likely enable this AI to self diagnose and repair it's own problems and malfunctions if processes are kept in isolation AND there is a dedicated "overseer" process.

@@JamesArndt I'm sorry, I know you're trying to sound intelligent but no.....a computer animation will never have a soul....a soul is who a human is without this shell we call a body.....we have an eternal living soul inside all of us...this computer animation is limited to a power source and someone's imagination....but I'll give you this, if you've ever cared to read the Bible you literally just paraphrased an end time prophesy....that should peak your interest.

I don’t feel much of an emotion from it other than maybe hope. It’s nothing more than a simulation running on a high end PC. It’s not human, it’s not alive, it doesn’t feel. It’s just a tool that will hopefully be able to help humanity in the future. That’s why I said I feel hopeful. These kinds of programs should be able to help living human beings live better lives. Better, meaning -> assist in meeting goals or achieving tasks, taking care of complex work that better suits AI, helping solve complex problems in medical or scientific discovery, and a host of other positive implications.
