I'm on the fence as well. But skipping is my weakness. This maybe the excuse...yep.

Thanks for sharing this feedback. Didn’t even consider this until your comment and those of a few others. Glad to know this happens and I will be sure to point it out in future videos.

What's the brake that it uses to control the spool speed?
@ChadHooverFishing3 жыл бұрын
It’s the digital control system that does it.
@nunyabiz17123 жыл бұрын
There's a chip (that's powered by the spool spinning) that applies electromagnetic force to slow the spool based on the speed of the spool and the setting that you have it on. There are 4 settings, if I remember right, that vary the braking force from very little to max based on the line you're using; they call these settings "casting profiles" I believe. Think of a table with speeds matched against the four settings. For a certain spool speed and dial setting it chooses how much power to send to the electromagnets to apply braking to the spool. They say it does that 1,000 times a second. People think this chip is magical and can detect when the spool is about to overrun and backlash and stop it. Nope. It can't sense that and can't stop it.

Hope they are worth it I just spent 274 on a Curado dc lol

They are the real deal! No pun intended. I know people who couldn’t cast a baitcaster to save their life and now look like a pro with a DC reel

I was thinking of getting one of these as I’ve been too intimidated in the past to try a bait caster. Now I think I’ll pull the trigger. Thanks Chad!

Thanks Chad for another great video. I have never heard of the brand or the concept of a DC reel. I will probably pick one up next year and check it out. Tight lines.

In a sense of monetary cost of production vs actual sells prices, no they are not. The circuitry used to control them is vary simplistic and costs pennies to manufacture. But prices will continue to plummet as more and more competitors enter the market.

Low light and night fishing. The SLX DC was my best buddy fishing at night. I could not turn on a light due to Bugs attacking my head lamp light. So it was like fishing with your eyes closed. The SLX DC is just as good.

I have the SLX DC on my crankbait rod, and I love it. There are just some times when my mind is more on the fish and less on the cast, and I forget to thumb the spool on cast a bit, and this reel has saved my butt. Especially when you end up with a wind change.

I haven’t been able to get my hands on the SLX DC but everyone that I’ve talked to or run into since my first DC reel video has sworn by them.

I have the Japan versions (exsence and scorpion dc) really similar They are fun to throw and a nice addition to my collection. I can backlash them but that’s because I try to max out casting distance by really backing out the brakes, even if it backlashes it’s only a few strands that catch and easy to pick out. I don’t get a lot of time to fish and using dc reels has really cut down on fussing around with backlashes and fine tuning brakes. Is it a necessity? No I still use my curado k and tatulas. Does it make it more enjoyable to fish? Absolutely imo

You should try the DC 5 brakes on the scorpion JDM model. I got my fiancée a slx dc and she learned how to use a baitcaster in 2 trips. Now she can use a centrifugal brake reel with no problem!

Thank's Chad. I've got a Curado K and didn't know if I wanna to pull the trigger on a DC, but if you say it's good I trust your judgment:) I've got big hands like you and love the way my Curado fits 👍

Chad - Nice channel, great content and that's why I subscribed. A few years ago I was thinking the same thing - Why bother with a DC reel when I already knew how to use a baitcaster. But after trying the Curado for a while I enjoyed it so much I went ahead and got the Scorpion. I also like adaptive cruise control, all-wheel drive, anti-skid and anti-lock brakes. What can I say? I guess I'm spoiled😉

I've had a couple of Curado Ks for a while and like them quite a bit for the price point. I decided to grab a Curado DC last year and see if it made much difference for me. If you are comfortable casting a baitcaster, I wouldn't recommend the DC. It's a solid reel for sure, but the $70 jump in price between the DC and the K just doesn't make sense for me. I think if you are hesitant to try baitcasters because of the learning curve, it might be worth it, but then are you really learning how to cast effectively with a baitcaster?
@davekaylor4583 жыл бұрын
I'm going to give it a try now that the price has come down. I prefer the baitcaster, but still occasionally get professional overrun, and just the idea of making it easier to cast light baits and skipping makes it worth trying.

I have one and it's fine. One day I was using it and switched rods to one with an $80 BassPro reel on it with the same centrifugal brake mechanism as the standard Curados and it cast the same as the DC. I bought two more of the same BP reel in the other ratios after that day. But not all BP reels are the same; I doubt they're all made by the same OEM.
