I purchased a Nitro Mesh Kit by Alesis since importing the Donner which is cheaper was more expensive (I live in Mexico).... I am quite pleased, but sometimes I do wonder If I made the wrong call. This one offers so much more for less! The only thing I'd find myself missing is the MIDI ports on the Alesis, which I use for bluetooth midi *with a device that I cannot use out of a USB port*.

Better cymbals, worse sounds. If you have a laptop or something to midi in, this thing is great. And even without it, it's great as well

@@Phrancis5 it's more expressive for the simplest. Kick drum is bigger. Other than that you are not exactly missing anything

I have a Donner DED 200 kit. I’m having a problem. Whenever I turn on the kit, the kick drum and the ride cymbal will make this triggering sound and I don’t know what to do. I went to the sensity settings and turned the volume all the way down. I’ll get a response from the snare, the toms, the crash, the hi hat cymbal and pedal but I won’t get a response from the kick drum or the ride cymbal. Is there any way I can make it stop? Any help is appreciated.

I prefer the raw sounds of this over the nitro. Nitro sounds are just cheesy to me, guess it doesn’t matter if you use USB for software drums either way?? Thanks for the review, cheers!

Have you experienced any trouble recording MIDI with this drum set? I set it up in garageband and the midi drum track sound drops out after 3-5 secs every time. I switch over to a synthesizer midi and that lets me play the drums fine without dropping out. Garageband still sees the kit and the midi signal and even lets me record but the sound drops out.

@DoubleBeats. I tried on my friend PC with pro tools and that worked. Ended up getting a whole new electric kit and it works fine with my mac/garageband now. The donner might be faulty.

Hello! Just got this for our daughter for xmas. Just curious, everytime she hits any one of the pads, it makes the assigned pad doubt plus a cymbal. Amy idea why?

Pad sensitivity is too high and the frame is transmitting vibrations from pad to pad. Adjust at pad and head unit

I'm 52 and I've decided to learn to play drums. I am debating on a acoustic or electric drums. I like the various drum kit sounds opposed to the single sound you get with an acoustic set.

don't even debate it. Just get an electronic kit, seriously. If you are starting, you will probably not spend the money you'd need to spend on a good acoustic drumset anyway and you will end up getting FAR MORE bang for your buck if you invest on something like this. A good acoustic drumset is amazing, but it probably will be too expensive for it to be justifiable as a starting point. Whereas with an electronic kit.... that is slightly more expensive than an entry drumkit, you will have FAR more to play with.

I'm a 65 year old guitar player and I've owned my Donner DED 200 kit for eight weeks now. I feel I made the right choice buying an E-Drum vs acoustic. Setup is about an hour and I was playing right away without tuning or fiddling at all.

@@shawnrenaud2252 and although acoustics will offer subtleties such as hitting the cymbals at different angles and such, cheap acoustic drums tend to sound quite bad... you made the right choice 🙏🏻. Ps: i am a guitarist too! Drumming just to make my own tracks lol 🙏🏻

Donner has larger Kick surface for a second pedal and its cymbals are said to work better. But the Nitro Mesh has regular midi in/out and slightly better sounds.

Same as the nitro you can add 1 tom n 1 cymbal. They are less cost than the alesis ext. as well.

I bought it, but ended up returning. Honestly, not a bad e kit for a beginner, but as a semi-pro, the snare drum response and terrible brain were the biggest downfalls.

Man it's almost there. Problem is, I absolutely HATE that tones don't overlap. It's most noticeable on the open hat and the ride. Each time you hit, it completely kills the ambience and decay from the previous note, making it really choppy sounding. That's a shame. Major deal breaker for me.

Donner did a great job and price is fantastic.. BUT.. donner did not include instructions on how to operate the sound module.. it is not straightforward.. i know other drummers have tried to track down instructions.. which is ridiculous they should come in the box, but even after talking to donner, they reveal that they have no instructions for the module! That would be the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. People are doing reviews on this kit all over the place, a lot of them receiving a free kit from donner to review.. not one of them tell you there are no instructions for the module, and just like this review they don't review, explain, or use the module in depth.

It’s not meant to show how to use the sound module, as much as it is to show the entire package in general. It’s good that you have brought this to their attention. I hope they make that change.

The sounds are terrible honestly. Why skimp on arguably the most important bit when putting the effort in with the materials? The lack of sound layering mixed with the relative lack of sample velocities make this honestly a tough listen, no matter how good the drummer. Only usable with a VST in my opinion. I personally still prefer to just use a module, so for a few hundred more I'd definitely recommend the Roland TD 07 at an absolute minimum. I also recently played a newer Simmons kit and thought it was pretty decent and not much more than the Donner.
